Develped in cllabratin between the HSE and UCD, the primary purpse f this initiative is t drive the intrductin and use f nursing and midwifery metrics in services in the Dublin Mid-Leinster (DML) regin. Nursing and midwifery metrics prvide evidence fr individual nurses, midwives and managers utilising a standardised set f indicatrs t: demnstrate perfrmance in achieving an established standard; quantify trends and characteristics; highlight areas f risk which require attentin; prvide infrmatin t imprve nursing care; prvide infrmatin n educatinal needs fr healthcare staff. The successful applicant will register fr a PhD and pursue academic study t PhD level at University Cllege Dublin and will be required t undertake research under the directin f the academic lead at the UCD Schl f Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems and the relevant clinical lead in the Nursing and Midwifery Planning and Develpment Unit (NMPDU). Clear identificatin f key prject resurce requirements and milestnes including a pilt phase. Identifying cst effective data cllectin methdlgies Establishing cntact with existing HSE areas engaged in the implementatin f nursing and midwifery metrics. Gvernance In cllabratin with Directrs f Nursing and Midwifery, and ther stakehlders within DML health services, identify a gvernance framewrk fr nursing and midwifery metrics Reprting regularly t an advisry grup chaired by the Directr NMPD, prviding prject reprts n the prgress f the prject.

3 Implementatin Engaging with ptential sites and encuraging participatin in the prject. Implementing In cnsultatin with relevant stakehlders, cllabrating, supprting and guiding the develpment and implementatin f standard and service specific nursing and midwifery metrics acrss participating health services sites. Educatin Develping and delivering apprpriate educatin prgrammes t supprt the implementatin and evaluatin f nursing and midwifery metrics. Supprting skill develpment t measure agreed areas f nursing and midwifery care utilising a range f data cllectin, analysis and interpretatin appraches. Supprting the reprting f metrics data in clinical sites. Evaluatin Evaluate the impact f implementatin f nursing metrics fr key agreed and clearly identified prcesses and utcmes Identify and agree research methdlgies with the prject steering grup t examine the impact f defining and measuring nursing/midwifery metrics n patient quality and safety and the impact n nurses and midwives clinical practice. She/he will be required t undertake the research t the required standard under the directin f the Academic lead in UCD and the clinical lead in the NMPDU and t pursue academic study t PhD level. Salary 43,288 PhD student fees will als be prvide fr the 3 years Selectin criteria Mandatry Selectin criteria utline the qualificatins, skills, knwledge and/r experience that the successful candidate wuld need t demnstrate fr successful discharge f the respnsibilities f the pst. Pst-graduate degree at Masters Level. The NMPD is part f the Natinal Office fr Nursing and Midwifery and the bjectives f the unit are accmplished thrugh wrking in partnership with stakehlders n key fcus areas: Practice develpment Cntinuing prfessinal develpment Crprate and clinical gvernance Prvisin f safe, quality care Leadership and innvatin There are 62 services in the gegraphical area served by the NMPDU in Dublin Suth, Kildare and Wicklw brken dwn as fllws: Acute 6, Maternity 2 Children s - 2 Specialist 5, Older Persns 14 Mental Health Services (including addictin) 12 Intellectual Disability Services 14 Cmmunity Public Health Nursing Services 7. Scpe f the prject It is anticipated that there will be a number f sites in the pilt phase which will be cmpleted within a defined perid f appintment t the rle. Fllwing the pilt phase, it is anticipated that agreed nursing/midwifery metrics will be rlled-ut t an increasing number f sites in Dublin Mid Leinster within a time frame identified by the Prject Steering Grup. Gvernance f the Prject The prject will be gverned jintly by the Cllege f Health Sciences, University Cllege Dublin (UCD) and the HSE, Office f the Nursing and Midwifery Services Directr. The prject will be verseen by an verall prject Advisry grup. The peratinalisatin f the prject plan will be delivered reginally by the researcher in partnership with the wrking
