Take ntes and cntact the funder with any questins r ask advice abut items Insure that yu and the funder share the same interests Once a funder is identified, carefully review the RFP and take ntes Call the cntact phne number at the funding agency with any questins--they are there t help yu. Dn't be afraid t d this. This will als alert them t yur interests Nte the eligibility requirements and make sure that yu fit within thse parameters Star the deadline date n yur calendar and develp a plan fr writing wrking backwards frm that date Cmpnents f a Grant Cver Letter Write the cver letter and/r summary after yu finish preparing the entire grant Clearly identify the applicant Make sure yu include cntact infrmatin in the cver letter (at least a phne number) Check t see if the main sectins f the grants are represented. Address specific need, bjectives f prject, descriptin f prject, methds, evaluatin, and prject cst Make sure yu sell yur idea in these dcuments. It is the first and may be the last impressin yu leave fr a reviewer Be brief Backgrund Build credibility fr yur rganizatin Reinfrce the cnnectin between yu, the prject and the funder Establish a cntext fr yur prblem statement Gather materials abut the agency in ne place and have it electrnically if pssible

3 Grant Writing Resurces 1-6 Plan fr time t get the letters f supprt Highlight the agency's strengths in addressing the prblem Needs Statement Zer in n a specific prblem D nt assume that the reviewers knw abut this health prblem Insure that yu present data abut the prblem at all levels, especially lcally If yu have t much data, pull ut the key infrmatin and place the rest in the Appendix Demnstrate that the prblem yu are addressing matches the fcus f the funder Use statistics t supprt existence f yur prblem r issue Make a cnnectin between the issue and yur rganizatin Demnstrate yur knwledge f the issue r prblem Prject Descriptin Reread the RFP fr infrmatin specific t the funder's gals r missin State gals as results Insure that the bjectives cntain the fur elements Make sure bjectives are realistic Plan fr the evaluatin utcmes in yur bjectives Methds Reread the RFP fr infrmatin specific t the funder's Insure methds are cngruent with gals, bjectives, and the need statement Meet with prject staff and utline tasks t accmplish gals and bjectives Highlight the innvativeness/strengths f the prpsal (Bld this sectin header!!)
