PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION Purpse: This qualificatin will enable the learner t functin as a clinically fcused, service rientated, independent Registered Staff Nurse, wh is able t render nursing care as determined by the apprpriate legislative framewrk. The qualificatin will prvide a basis fr decisin-making abut what is within and beynd the defined scpe f practice, as well as understanding f the referral system in place fr anything utside f the scpe f practice. The diplmate will apply evidence-based nursing practice which is based n research r established practices that have prven t be effective bth natinally and internatinally within the prfessin. On successful cmpletin f this qualificatin, the learner is eligible fr registratin with the Suth African Nursing Cuncil as a Staff Nurse.

The nurse with this qualificatin has a significant cntributin t make in the current situatin f human resurces in health in Suth Africa, taking int cnsideratin the cuntry s histrical backgrund and the shrtage f prfessinal nurses and dctrs in the cuntry. The practice f this nurse is fcused n quality service delivery within a brad spectrum f health services and in a variety f settings, including rural areas. 3 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Learners wishing t enrl fr this qualificatin must have: Access t this qualificatin is Natinal Senir Certificate r an equivalent qualificatin at exit level 3 and 4 LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING Cmmunicatin Skills at NQF Level 4 Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4 Cmputer Literacy at NQF Level 3 Life Science at NQF level 4 RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING Recgnitin f prir learning (RPL) fr access t this qualificatin r credit bearing exemptins, an applicatin must be submitted accrding t the RPL plicy f the Nursing Educatin Institutin fr individual assessment QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS In terms f current relevant legislatin: The Nursing Educatin Institutin (NEI) is required t register learners with the Suth African Nursing as fr the duratin f the perid f training The NEI can nly ffer prgrammes and accept students fr apprved and accredited qualificatin Learners must have access t apprved clinical facilities accrding t training regulatins issued by SANC that has a Memrandum f Agreement in place. QUALIFICATION RULES Ttal Credits: 360 f which 197 credits must be acquired in apprpriate and accredited clinical facilities and 70% f clinical acquired credits must be supervised and mentred.
