5 CURRENT RESEARCH (2012-PRESENT): BIG DATA MANAGEMENT AND PROCESSING Big Data is ne f the mst strategic and challenging technlgies f present. With mre than 3ZB f digital data in the wrld, the amunt f infrmatin managed by enterprise datacenters is expected t grw by a factr f 10 ver the next decade. Big Data invlves the effective data prcessing and analysis t extract mining infrmatin that generates value t rganizatins. We are currently studying the different technlgies t stre very large data files, based n nsql distributed databases, and the implementatins t efficiently prcess these vast data sets, based n the MapReduce mdel. We plan t develp a middleware layer that manages the distributed strage plicies and parallelizatin strategies t enhance the cperatin between bth cmpnents and, therefre, imprve glbal perfrmance. The results f these research areas will help rganizatins gain insights frm their unstructured data, and are f great scial and ecnmic interest in fields such as business intelligence, decisin making, emtinal marketing, scial entertainment, and many ther strategic areas. ( ): OPTIMIZATION FOR MASSIVELY PARALLEL MULTIPROCESSORS Wrk develped as part f my PhD degree, partially funded thrugh research cntracts with Cnvex Supercmputing Crpratin (Dallas, TX), COMETT University Enterprises Partnership, and research prjects with University f Vienna, Austria, and Queen s University f Belfast, UK. Develpment f a parallelizatin tl that, autmatically, adapts a sequential written cmputatinal intensive prgram int parallel frm ptimized fr distributed memry supercmputers. Main cntributin: ptimal parallelizatin strategy (the whle prblem was mdeled and cmputed at cmpile time using linear 0-1 integer technlgies). Mre than 20 papers published in internatinal cnference prceedings and jurnals. ( ): MULTIPROCESSOR MEMORY HIERARCHY OPTIMIZATION Wrk develped under research cntracts with ESPRIT LTR, EU, and research prjects with CICYT, Spanish Gvernment. As a cntinuatin f the previus research, in this wrk the cncept f distributed memry supercmputers ptimizatin was extended t hetergeneus memry multiprcessrs, mre usable and ppular at that time. This wrk was part f a mre integral prject t analyze and ptimize any level f the memry hierarchy. ( ): RUN-TIME OPTIMIZATION FOR PARALLEL EXECUTION Wrk develped under research cntracts with Micrsft Research LTD, UK (prject leader), research prjects with CICYT, Spanish Gvernment, and in cperatin with the Institut Plitécnic Nacinal, Mexic. Implementatin f different thread scheduling ptimizatin algrithms in the Java Virtual Machine fr high perfrmance internet and business applicatins.
