These administrative tasks can be perfrmed n the server r remtely and include: Imprved datacenter pwer cnsumptin management With the prliferatin f physical cmputers in datacenters, pwer cnsumptin is f paramunt imprtance. In additin t the cst-saving assciated with reducing pwer cnsumptin, many datacenters are cnstrained by the number f cmputers they can supprt in their data center by the actual pwer available t the datacenter. Therefre reducing yur pwer cnsumptin als allws yu t supprt mre physical cmputers while using the same amunt f pwer, r less pwer, than befre. Reduced multicre prcessr pwer cnsumptin Windws Server 2008 R2 reduces prcessr pwer cnsumptin in server cmputers with multicre prcessrs by using a feature knwn as Cre Parking. The Cre Parking feature allws Windws Server 2008 R2 t cnslidate prcessing nt the fewest number f pssible prcessr cres, and suspends inactive prcessr cres. Reduced prcessr pwer cnsumptin by adjusting prcessr speed Windws Server 2008 R2 has the ability t adjust the ACPI P-states f prcessrs and subsequently adjust server pwer cnsumptin. ACPI P-states are the prcessr perfrmance states within the ACPI specificatin. Depending n the

5 prcessr architecture, Windws Server 2008 R2 can adjust the P-states f individual prcessrs and prvide very fine cntrl ver pwer cnsumptin. Reduced strage pwer cnsumptin Anther key methd fr reducing pwer in data centers is by centralizing the strage, typically by using a Strage Area Netwrk (SAN). Because SANs tend t have higher-capacity drives fr the same amunt f pwer cnsumptin, the strage capacity t pwer cnsumptin rati in a SAN is higher than in a typical server cmputer. SANs als make mre efficient use f the available disk space, as any server can have access t the available strage n the SAN. Imprved Management f File Services Strage is n lnger a marginal expense. Windws File Classificatin Infrastructure (FCI) in Windws Server 2008 R2 Overview Windws Server 2008 R2 File Classificatin Infrastructure (FCI) prvides insight int yur data by autmating classificatin prcesses s that yu can manage yur data mre effectively and ecnmically. FCI des this by enabling t autmatically classify files based n prperties defined by administratrs (such as whether r nt a file cntains persnally identifiable infrmatin) and perfrming administratr-specified actins based n that classificatin (backing up files cntaining persnal infrmatin t an encrypted stre, fr example). These mechanisms are included in the bx as well as prvided by extensible interfaces that allw IT rganizatins and partners t build rich end t end slutins fr classifying and applying plicy based n classificatin. FCI helps custmers save mney and reduce risk by managing files based n their business value and business impact. Yu can use the Windws File Classificatin Infrastructure t identify files that: Cntain sensitive infrmatin and are lcated n servers with lwer security and mve the files t servers with higher security. Cntain sensitive infrmatin and encrypt thse files. Are n lnger essential and autmatically remve the files frm servers. Windws Server 2008 R2 includes identity management imprvements in the Active Directry Dmain Services and Active Directry Federated Services server rles. Imprvements fr All Active Directry Server Rles Windws Server 2008 R2 includes the fllwing identity management imprvements that affect all Active Directry server rles: Recvery f deleted bjects. Imprved prcess fr jining dmains. Imprved management f user accunts used as identity fr services. Reduced effrt t perfrm cmmn administrative tasks. Imprved cmpliance with established standards and best practices Windws Server 2008 R2 includes an integrated Best Practices Analyzer fr each f the server rles. The Best Practices Analyzer creates a checklist within Server Manager fr the rle, which yu can use t help perfrm all the cnfiguratin tasks.
