This curse cmbines knwledge, tls and techniques that are cmmn t managing successful prjects in any field with insight int the special challenges f managing prjects in the LIS field. General prject management subjects cvered include a framewrk fr prject management, as well as the key prject management knwledge areas: integratin, scpe, time, cst, quality, human resurce, cmmunicatin, risk, and prcurement. Specific LIS prject management subjects cvered include the demand fr prject management skills in libraries, case studies f prjects in bth large and small libraries, and methds fr addressing the special challenges f digital library prjects. A series f self-quizzes will be made available t students t help them evaluate their mastery f the material and readiness fr the final examinatin. Student Paper During the curse, each student will be wrking n a paper that will be cmpleted by the end f the curse. The subject f the paper will be the evaluatin f the prject management prcesses emplyed n a real prject (either past r present) undertaken by the student s rganizatin (emplyer, university, r cmmunity). During the final tw weeks f the curse, each student will present a shrt ral summary f their paper during the weekly live sessin. Prject Management fr LIS Page 4 f 5

5 Wrk Required f Students Lectures will be pre-recrded and made available fr listening by students prir t class. This will allw us time t discuss readings, lectures and student prjects during the actual class sessins. Students will be expected t cmplete all reading assignments and listen t the lectures befre the live sessin. All wrk n written assignments will be dne independently by each student and submitted n r befre the due date. Students will be expected t participate in class actively and share their wn prject management experiences (bth gd and bad) with the class. Basis fr Determining Grade The varius cmpnents f student wrk will cntribute t the final grade based upn the fllwing percentages: Final Exam: 40% Student Paper: 40% In-Class Cntributin 20% Letter grades will be determined as fllws: A+: %; A : 93-96%; A- : 90-92%; B+: 87-89%; B : 83-86%; B- : 80-82%; C+: 77-79%; C : 73-76%; C- : 70-72%; D+: 67-69%; D : 63-66%; D- : 60-62%; F : 0-59%; Cntact Hurs This curse will require apprximately 45 cntact hurs.
