1 Cventry Public Schls Sub System/Department Gal Achievement fr the Schl Year Carla L. Kennedy Educatinal Technlgy 1. Identify, define, and measure the critical skills and attributes that are required fr success and align systems t cntinuusly imprve student perfrmance and achievement. Analyze the district s current technlgy infrastructure as measured by the State f Cnnecticut s Tech Readiness Tl and develp a cmprehensive plan t put the necessary measures in place fr the Smarter Balanced assessment in the Spring, 2014 By develping a prcedure fr inventrying and tagging all equipment in districtwide cmputer labs, including deplying an autmated infrmatin database t gather all hardware and sftware assets within the district, a request t increase the Capital Imprvement Prject budget t replace aging equipment and build a successful and sustainable netwrk was put frward. Furthermre, preparing a district-wide technlgy budget prpsal t centralize purchasing and leverage purchasing pwer within the perating budget was als designed based n these results. Oversaw the management and distributin f the State f Cnnecticut Tech Readiness Grant. This entailed purchasing 90 new desktps t supprt Smarter Balanced (SBAC) testing and installing a reliable wireless netwrk at ur K-5 schls; cnsisting f 36 access pints and 5 Pwer ver Ethernet switches. The rest f the funding will be used t purchase mbile devices and ancillaries t further supprt testing. All equipment t date has been inventried int the district s technlgy asset-tracking database. Managed Educatinal Technlgy staff t prvide cntinuus maintenance and repairs t all cmputer equipment that will be used fr daily instructin, MAP assessment and SBAC testing. This included inspecting and replacing mice, keybards, installing testing lck-dwn brwsers n all machines used fr assessments, and creating a specific sign-n prfile fr the SBAC assessment based n the test regulatins. Develped a plan and tested cnnectivity alng with uptime and dwntime speeds in areas that will be used fr SBAC testing, including bth the wired and wireless netwrks. Cllabrated with the Business Manager, Directr f Facilities, and building Principals in redefining learning spaces by creating new cmputer labs t successfully administer the n-line assessments and prvide n-site technical supprt during testing in all cmputer lab lcatins. Develp a structure, prcess, prcedure fr managing, and accunting fr technlgy requests t efficiently and effectively supprt teaching and learning 1 P a g e

2 Cllabrated with Cventry High Schl administratin and staff t create a Student IT Assistant prgram, which prvides authentic applicatins f learning t a real-wrld audience. During the year, we prudly shared this experience with ten Student IT Assistants. In additin, three Cventry Senirs prudly shared their IT Help Desk experiences at the CEN Member Cnference at the Cnnecticut Cnventin Center n May 22, Experts in the field were pleased t hear abut these exceptinal learning experiences. Develped and implemented cntent management and inventry servers t manage internal Help Desk requests (request@cventryct.rg), mnitr utages, ntice alerts, and track hardware. Further refinement is needed within these systems t streamline the triage prcess fr requests which will assist the department in prviding exceptinal custmer service, priritizing prductin supprt t fllw a queue prcess allws fr district-wide supprt and clearly identifies district training needs, and cntinuing t inventry district assets and centralize technlgy purchases fr the schl year will allw the department t efficiently and effectively supprt teaching and learning. This prcess has allwed us t track ver 2,160 requests district-wide! Created an annymus technlgy tip line n ur district hme-page that prvides the cmmunity with a frum t express infrmal feedback regarding ur initiatives and prvide evidence f the effectiveness f prgrams and strategies. Refine district standardized assessment prcedures frm an individual schl based apprach t a systemic prtcl t prmte student prgress and achievement in literacy and numeracy Develped standardized assessment prcedures and created a systemic prtcl fr MAP and SBAC testing. Centralizing scheduling, training sessins, technical supprt, and training materials allwed the department t maximize district resurces, bth staff and equipment. Streamlining building-based wrkflws fr testing including prtcls fr Special Educatin students, equipment review and readiness tests, and data efficiencies fr reprting results with enhanced SQL and data mapping has greatly aided in testing and helped the district gain efficiencies. This has saved 195 hurs that wuld have been filled by supprt staff. 2. Maintain and prmte a psitive and respectful learning cmmunity. Cntinually mnitr netwrk activity, implement new equipment and innvative slutins, and cllect relevant data t imprve the use f data driven decisin making t maintain a safe nline learning envirnment fr activities n ur schl netwrk Dcumented the existing netwrk by diagramming the switch layut and all relevant cnnectins, including the switch management IP addresses, was the first step in maintaining a safe nline learning envirnment fr activities n ur netwrk. Cllabrated with the Netwrk Administratr and Prject Manager extensive research was dne n the future and sustainability design f the Cventry Public Schls Netwrk t fully supprt wireless, create redundancy 2 P a g e

3 plans in case f disaster recvery, Vice ver IP, and security device enhancements. Upgrading the hardware that makes up the netwrk cre t ensure stable netwrk cnnectivity district-wide was ne f the first tasks f the department. Thrughut the year, the staff f the Educatinal Technlgy department upgraded the financial management system fr the district and cnverted t a Micrsft Remte App access methd, upgraded critical switches in ur clsets t pwer wrkstatins, upgraded the student infrmatin system (PwerSchl) t the latest versin t be in cmpliance with state reprting guidelines, built and upgraded hardware n multiple machines within district t be able t handle the newest perating systems (Micrsft Windws 8.1) and als develped a new sftware and security update mechanism in rder t maintain the netwrk. Expanded the district s implementatin f Symantec antivirus sftware t be installed n every machine t prtect the netwrk frm dangerus viruses and hackers. Installed Aerhive wireless access pints thrughut the district t prvide wireless cnnectivity and expand ur netwrk cverage. Cllabrated with the high schl Library Media Specialist t expand the schl library infrmatin database, Destiny Fllett, t include grades K-5 as an innvative slutin t further prmte literacy in ur schls. Researched and implemented a device management sftware slutin t manage district-issued ipads. Cllabrated with CHS administratin t develp prcedures fr reprting misuse f ipads. Distributed ipads t the 10 th graders, district staff, and the K-8 cart and classrm sets. Cllabrated with members f the District Technlgy Cmmittee t develp prcedures fr adding new apps t the ipads acrss the district. Cllabrated with the twn agencies t prvide cnnectivity and access t the twn netwrk frm their new facility. Prvided all data feeds fr district systems including Fd Service Slutins, Renzulli, Naviance, MAP, Study Island, SBAC, Blmbard, Teachscape, and Atlas Rubicn. Created, administered, and analyzed student and staff technlgy survey results t assist district administratrs t make infrmed decisins based n data. Increase cmmunicatin and wrking relatinships with parents and the cmmunity regarding educatinal technlgy initiatives thrugh varius venues including parent presentatins, district website, and ther digital platfrms Cllabrated with CHS administratin t develp and implement parent and student ipad wrkshps during summer sessins and the CHS Open Huse. Supprted families with children in grades 1-6 and new families t the district with rientatin wrkshps t successfully navigate the PwerSchl Parent Prtal. 3 P a g e

Organized and cllabrated with teachers, students, and administratrs in the district t present the results f the ipad initiative at bth the UCnn ipad Cnference n May 14, 2014 and the 2 nd annual CEN Member Cnference n May 22, Participated in the district interview t press release the ipad initiative with The Chrnicle (9/23/13), the UCnn Sptlight publicatin, and the CEN Member Sptlight article. 3. Recruit, retain, and develp high quality staff at every level. Cntinue t supprt and expand the district s prfessinal cllabratin netwrk by partnering with lcal universities and ther gvernment agencies t increase student achievement in all cntent areas in preparatin fr the Smarter Balanced assessment Cllabrated with the University f Cnnecticut t prvide prfessinal develpment supprt t integrate ipads int teaching and learning. Crdinated and created an Educatinal Technlgy Prfessinal Develpment track which teachers (K-12) elected t attend ipad wrkshps thrughut the year with Assciate Prfessr f Online Learning, Dr. Jae-Eun J, and Apple Certified Campus Rep and UCnn Senir, Mr. Jake Sippel. Organized and lead District Technlgy Cmmittee. Pilted keybarding prgrams fr early learners t build prficiency fr n-line assessments. Explred schl-wide Gmail and Micrsft 365 ptins fr students by cnsulting with the University f Cnnecticut, Manchester Cmmunity Cllege, and ther districts such as Plainville Public Schls. Netwrked with cmmunity cntacts t dnate necessary server and hardware resurces t imprve the district s technlgy psitin, and recruited prfessinals t vlunteer their time and materials t install ur wireless system at the K-5 lcatins, saving the district ver $18,000. Cllabrated with state-wide user grups n PwerSchl, state reprting, MAPS, and regularly attended EastCnn Technlgy Cuncil meetings and CEN Membership Cnference Planning Cmmittee meetings t discuss best practices in the field f educatinal technlgy. Further netwrking pprtunities have ccurred t frm partnerships with ther districts thrugh site visits and cnference calls t increase student achievement as related t district initiatives (Rcky Hill, Farmingtn, The Gilbert Schl, and Wdstck Academy). Prvide nging and differentiated learning pprtunities fr all site level staff t enhance ur district s web presence utside f the current prfessinal develpment days Organized August training sessin fr district secretarial staff t prvide training n multiple digital systems including AESOP, ur staff absentee and substitute recruitment system. Thrughut the year members f the department, including the Educatinal Technlgy Cach, have prvided multiple trainings and materials n critical business systems and educatinal applicatins such as PwerTeacher, administering the MAP assessment, administering the SBAC assessment, PwerMyLearning.rg, ipad 101, and varius ipad apps such as Evernte, Educreatins, Genuis Scan, and Nearpd. Researched alternatives t enhance ur verall web presence, t imprve teacher t student cmmunicatin, teacher-t-teacher cmmunicatin, schl t parent cmmunicatin and administratin t teacher cmmunicatin. One methd was t apply Ggle Analytics t research hw ur current site is used. This data has been used t drive cntent redesign decisins and t include new prducts int the website redesign. Cllabrated with student IT assistants and members f the District Technlgy Cmmittee t design an n-line digital prfessinal learning cmmunity t supprt district initiatives. Cllabrate with ther district leaders t ensure effective implementatin f the Teacher and Administrative Evaluatin instrument as well as prvide n-ging technlgy supprt including n-line prfessinal develpment Cllabrated with district administratrs t prvide educatinal technlgy prfessinal develpment which included sharing the visin fr the department (SAMR mdel), ipad apps, Smart Bard training, PwerMyLearning.rg, and the ipad 101 verview.
