2 Red Oak Elementary After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) Class Policy Please make sure to read all terms and procedures listed below. Registration forms are currently being accepted at the Oak Park Community Center, 1000 N. Kanan Rd., between 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. for the Fall 2015 session. Please complete a registration form for each child. Acceptable forms of payment are: cash, check, Visa, or MasterCard. Checks should be made payable to RSRPD. Please choose classes carefully to ensure that you do not have any conflicts. There are no refunds, OR pro-rations. You will only receive a refund if the class is full or cancelled. Meeting Locations: Kindergartners will always be picked up from the Kindergarten area 1 st -5 th Graders Will meet at the lunch table area before going to class area. If your child is enrolled for After School Club at the end of the school day, it is up to you to remind your child they have an after school class. Please do not rely on your child s teacher or the After School Club staff to remind them they have an after school class. There will be no refunds if your child misses classes because they forgot to go or because they missed school that day. No student will be permitted to attend an A.S.E.P. class if completed and signed registration forms have not been turned in. If the child does show up to the class without a completed registration form, the child will be sent to the office and someone will be called to pick him/her up. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated in any class. Only two warnings will be given to the disruptive students. If a student continues to disrupt class after the second warning, he/she will be directed to the main office and they will be notified about the behavior. The student will no longer be able to attend the remainder of the A.S.E.P. class and no refund will be given. All A.S.E.P. students MUST be picked up on time from class. There is no after school supervision. If your child is picked up later than 5 minutes after the class is over more than two times, the child will no longer be able to participate in the class. No refund will be given. Each time a class is cancelled for any reason, an additional day will be added to the end of the session. You will be notified by phone or . If the class is cancelled within an hour of the scheduled class time for an unforeseen emergency, you will be notified by a phone call. 4 FALL 2015 Red Oak Enrichment Classes (Classes are 8 weeks long) Kindergarten Classes Fun with Music! Greg Smith This class is for youth that have an interest in singing and playing musical instruments. It s also designed to train the child s ear to recognize melodic sounds and rhythm in today s popular music. Students then translate this recognition to their chosen instrument. The students will begin to visually identify notes and play simple melodies on percussion instruments. They will be using instruments such as bongos, triangles, tambourines, wood blocks, snare drums, maracas, and finger cymbals. The final project will be recording themselves playing their chosen instruments onto a CD for everyone to enjoy. This class will be taught by a 20-year veteran music instructor, producer and drummer who has performed and produced recordings with such artists as Lionel Richie, BB King, and Earth Wind and Fire. 1:15pm 2:15pm Dates: 9/21-12/7 (No Class on 10/5, 10/26, 11/2, 11/23) Tennis with Coach Paul Paul Garron An introductory program for children to develop racket & ball handling skills, using felt tennis balls & equipment when throwing & catching. Learn the forehand, backhand & volley while working on your own & with a partner. We will start with portable nets and move to the regular net depending on success rate of the group. 1:15pm 2:15pm Dates: 9/22-12/1 (No Class on 10/6,11/3) Creepy Crawly Critters Peak Adventures Tarantulas, Scorpions and Bugs, oh my! There are more than one million different kinds of insects and almost as many fun facts. Students will go on bug hunts, dissect a grasshopper and tarantula, learn which of the following is actually an insect: spiders, scorpions, crickets, or crabs. And compare their own athletic abilities to those of crickets. Meet our live insect family and hold some if you dare! 12:30-1:30 (lunch 12:15-12:30) Dates: 9/16-12/9 (No class on 9/23, 10/7, 11/4, 11/11, 11/25)

Children participating in our program: Develop critical thinking and problem solving skills; Have better concentration and mental discipline; Gain confidence and have lots of FUN!!! All students in chess club receive an exclusive Academic Chess workbook, prizes for good sportsmanship and participate in the BIG TOURNAMENT on the last day where all kids take home a prize! 1:00-2:00 (lunch 12:40-1:00 supervised by instructor) Dates: 9/16-12/2 (No class 9/23,11/4, 11/11, 11/25)

Each child will produce his or her own clothing line from concept to creation, with plenty of inspiration and playful experimentation along the way. Fashion Design Class will culminate in a fashion show extravaganza, giving young designers the opportunity to showcase their handiwork for friends and family by strutting down the runway in their finished masterpieces. Then this program from MIT offers the right mix of fun and challenge, as you begin your adventure into computer education. Students use the powerful yet easy to use software that builds programming logic. Students demonstrate mastery of programming concepts by building mini-projects based on the week s theme.
