1 Childcare Training and Accreditation Solutions (CTAS) is thrilled to be providing some inspiring professional development for the Education and Care Industry. Some of our sessions are back by popular demand and some are brand new and exciting. We also have some wonderful guest facilitators this year, so there is sure to be something for everyone. Long Day Care Professional Development Programme (LDCPDP) funding can be used for CTAS Professional Development workshops as well as CTAS qualification training in Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, Certificate IV in School Aged Education and Care and Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care. To assist you with your reporting CTAS has developed information sheets for all of our PD sessions including trainer information and workshop details such as learning outcomes and the links to the EYLF and NQS. If you would like us to send you the information sheet for a particular session, be sure to tick the box on your booking form. Please call Mikayla at CTAS on (08) for more information. Why is Professional Development Important? Up to date professional development helps educators stay fresh and excited about their profession and it can give new ideas and inspiration. We can never say I now know everything possible about the best ways children learn, so I don t need to learn anything else. Most of us don t have the time to read all of the new articles and research that comes out, so professional development can bring all of that new research together in an easy to understand, relevant 2 hour package. External training gives an opportunity to network with other educators and share stories and ideas. Training helps educators stay current and up-to-date with standards, requirements and best practice. The National Quality Standards talk about ongoing learning for educators and educators developing their professional knowledge and skills, this can be demonstrated by centres showing a commitment to professional development. Registration Guidelines Bookings will open Monday, 5th January Please use the 2015 CTAS booking form. Bookings must be made at least 14days prior to workshop date. Payments must be made at least 7 days prior to workshop date. Making payment by the due date is the responsibility of the centre/participant and unpaid invoices risk reallocation of their place. All sessions are $30 per person unless stated otherwise. No refunds or credits will be issued for cancellations within 24hrs of the workshop. Registration will commence from 6:15pm and training starts at 6.30pm sharp on the evening of each workshop unless stated otherwise. There is a minimum of 10 people per session and a maximum of 25 people, so RSVP to book into workshops as soon as possible. Waiting lists will be developed for popular sessions and participants will be contacted if a space becomes available. Facilitators for the session are subject to change without notice. In consideration of our participants learning, children will not be permitted entry to any CTAS workshops. CTAS In-Service Professional Development Take a look at our sessions topics, if you find a session that would suit all of your staff, we could provide the training at your service. Please contact us at least 3 weeks prior to your preferred date to book. In-services are subject to trainer availability. Contact CTAS for more information and prices.
2 A Guide to CTAS Professional Development Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Guest Facilitator Dale Tilbrook: Need more information about local Aboriginal culture? Dale is an Aboriginal woman who has delivered education programmes on history and culture. Explore a timeline of Aboriginal history, take a look at family structures and discuss strategies for supporting and engaging Aboriginal families in a childcare setting. Bring along your questions and ask them in a safe learning environment. In this session we will cover types of child abuse, indicators, protective strategies and reporting procedures. Participants should be aware that the session content is sensitive and may be confronting, however, it is extremely important that early childhood educators have the skills and knowledge to deal with child protection issues should they arise. Documentation Can t get your head around documentation? Need ideas to help make learning more visible? This workshop will explore the documentation cycle, look at thinking outside of the box when it comes to documentation and how to share documentation with children and families. Educator Wellbeing Guest Facilitator: Jan Spence: The most important element that leads towards job satisfaction and positive outcomes in the work place is the wellbeing of each educator. In this session we will explore ways of looking after ourselves and each other physically, intellectually and emotionally in order to gain optimum satisfaction from our careers. The session will also explore the benefits to children of happy, confident and passionate educators. Enriching Babies Learning How important are the relationships you have with the babies in your care? How can you create supportive interactions with babies? What does an enriching environment for babies look like? What experiences and resources do babies need? This session will work through how to enrich the environment, appropriate caregiving strategies, interactions and experiences to support learning in the 0-2 years age group. Enriching Toddlers Learning Do you want more strategies to help you care for the toddlers in your room? Do you know the ways in which toddlers learn? Do you need more ideas for supporting toddlers learning in language and literacy, thinking skills, selfcontrol and self-confidence? Then this is the workshop for you! Enriching Kindys Learning What are our priorities and emphasise in this age group? How are you supporting children getting ready for the transition to school? In this session we will look at the role of the educator, enriching the learning environment, and how to provide quality programs for the 3-5 year old age group. EYLF Suitable for educators working with children aged 0-5 years. An exploration of the Early Years Learning Framework including unpacking Belonging, Being, Becoming, the Principles, Practices and Learning Outcomes and tips on implementing the EYLF in your service. Fun with Maths and Science Discover how much maths and science is embedded in everyday play and life activities, and how you can enhance this. Build your confidence and understanding to effectively communicate a zest for the topics with children.
3 How Does Your Garden Grow? EYLF Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world. The vegie patch in early childhood settings is becoming an important activity and contributes to each child s connectedness to the land and community. However, is it just another list of jobs to do or an intrinsic passion, which incorporates real learning and discovery opportunities for children? Explore how to include lessons learnt from the vegie patch into further experiences in your program. Leadership What makes a leader? What are the learning styles of those around you? Learn about the qualities of a good leader, how to put them into practice and conflict resolution techniques. Making More of Music Explore the endless possibilities open to us to use music to help children express their emotions and alter the group dynamic. Utilise music to enhance body movement and dance, with the emphasis on enjoyment and pleasure. Gain experience in selecting music to fit the purpose. More Storytelling with Easy Props and Everyday Objects The introductory storytelling session was most successful last year. It returns by popular demand! Discover more ways to tell stories to children, with different techniques, styles and child participation. If you missed the first one- don t miss this. It will again be a fun way to explore your own talents in order to engage children through words, imagination and awe. MTOP Suitable for educators working with children aged 6-12years. An introduction to My Time Our Place, the framework for school aged care, includes exploring Belonging, Being, Becoming, the Principles, Practices and Learning Outcomes and tips on implementing the MTOP framework in your service. Reflective Practice- The 5 th Principle Reflective practice is a form of ongoing learning that involves engaging with questions of philosophy, ethics and practice. Critical reflection involves closely examining all aspects of events and experiences from different perspectives. (Belonging Being Becoming p.13) Explore how to be a critical thinker and challenge yourself in professional and personal goals. Supportive Natural Environments Nature is a fantastic resource for educators and children, how can we include natural elements indoors and outdoors in a meaningful way? Learn the benefits of nature based play for children and gain some practical ideas and applications. Look beyond the veggie patch; What does it mean to be sustainable? What is a Sustainability Management Plan? How can I demonstrate sustainability to children? Workplace Health and Safety This session covers emergencies, hygiene practices, infection control, manual handling and more.
