1 NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR FREE TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP! With support from the Columbus SOUP, Harrison College and Grove City Parks & Recreation, TECH CORPS will implement its Techie Girl Workshop with 20 middle (intermediate) school girls from the Grove City community on April 18 th. The Techie Girl Workshop is a half-day technology experience designed to engage students in programming and robotics activities that can stimulate a deeper interest in technology; as well as provide opportunities for them to express their imaginations. The workshop is comprised of 20 students and lead by two TECH CORPS Instructors. Families will be responsible for transportation. Snacks will be provided by the Grove City Parks & Recreation Department. The workshop will be held at Harrison College. Applications Due: April 3, 2015 TECHIE WORKSHOP Topics Through fun and engaging experiences with Scratch, from the MIT Media Lab, elementary school Programming students learn how to create their own interactive art, stories and games. Students explore basic engineering and programming as they interact with the LEGO Robotics Mindstorms EV3 robots. Live within the Grove City corporation limits OR attend Holt Crossing Intermediate, Park Street Intermediate or Hayes Intermediate schools; 2. Currently enrolled in the 5 th or 6 th grade. Student Selection Process: Students interested in being selected to participate will need to turn in a complete Application Packet before the Friday, April 3, 2015 deadline. Up to 20 students will be selected for the workshop based on their application (10 points), essay (60 points) and letter of recommendation (30 points).
