2 AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS SPRING 2015 PAGE 2 KIDZ ZUUMBA! Get your groove on!! Zumbatonic is Zumba for kids. It s specially designed class with kid- friendly songs, dances, and actions that promote the overall theme of a healthy lifestyle, with the goal of incorporating fitness as a natural part of children s lives. In Zumbatonic kids will learn dances to Latin rhythms such as- salsa, cumbia, reggaeton, hip-hop and more. It is designed to let kids max out on fun while dancing their hearts out. Watch their energy and coordination levels soar as they get the groove. Most importantly Zumbatonic is about creating a feeling of fearlessness on the dance floor, reinforcing the idea that it s okay to just be yourself and dance like no one s watching. Dates: April 20 th June 8 th Day of Program: Monday LIFE and SCIENCE BY: BRICKS4KIDZ Number of Sessions: 7 Cost of Program: $35.00 Explore the fascinating science of living things and build engaging models of living creatures from caterpillars to dinosaurs. Students will explore topics such as how the human body stays cool, the amazing life cycle of a butterfly and investigate the Venus Fly Trap...a plant that eats bugs! If you love creature than this is the class for you. Part 1: April 20 th May 11 th Part 2: May 25 th June 15 th Day of Program: Monday COOKING WITH KIDS Number of Sessions: 4 Come out and make delicious and healthy snacks and dishes. Eat and learn about what foods taste great and keep your body healthy. The dishes we will prepare are quick and easy. Each week we will prepare a different dish ranging from baked goods to snacks as well as quick meals. While learning to cook, you will also learn about kitchen safety, and nutrition and play games to learn about the different food groups and much more. Let s start cooking! Dates: April 21 st June 9 th Day of Program: Tuesday Location of Program: MPR MINI GARDENERS Mini Gardeners is a program for students wanting to learn about the environment and the world that surrounds us. The participants will build their own gardens, grow plants and maintain them. While the garden is growing the students will learn about different aspects that effect the environment and the world. This program will teach them some biology and ecology. Overall kids will have fun outdoors while learning about different aspects of the environment. Dates: April 22 nd June 10 th Day of Program: Wednesday Cost of Program: $40.00

3 AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS SPRING 2015 PAGE 3 RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS Rhythmic Gymnastics is an elegant sport both in physique and performance. It involves the use of body movement with apparatus by throwing and catching the apparatus (rope, hoop, ball, ribbon, and clubs). Students will put the skills together in choreographed routines with music. Dates: April 22 nd June 10 th Day of Program: Wednesday IMPROV ESSENTIALS Improv is about story- telling, games, trust and fun. It allows us to create and imagine anything we want and perform it on the spot. The instructor is a local professional acting coach and will be heading this high energy after school Improv class. Students will play games and work as a group towards a final mini show at the end of the program. Dates: April 16 th June 18 th Day of Program: Thursday Grade Levels: Gr. 2 Gr. 5 Time: 3:00 4:30 pm Number of Sessions: 10 Cost of Program: $75.00 *Only $60 dollars! Limited time only. OUTDOOR MULTI-SPORTS This is a fun play-based program designed to develop motor and athletic skills in a positive, supportive, noncompetitive environment. Children will play spring and summer sports such as: soccer, softball, football, ultimate frisbee, capture the flag and many more. The instructor is HIGH FIVE trained, which ensures activities within the program are appropriate and aware of healthy child development principles and supports physical literacy development practices. Most importantly this is a FUN way to get active. Dates: April 24 th June 12 th Day of Program: Friday Number of Sessions: 7 Cost of Program: $35.00

4 AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS SPRING 2015 PAGE 4 Top Karate for Kids Mini Karate This class is for beginners and children aged 4 to 6 years old. Sessions focuses on karate basics, physical activities, discipline and socialization through games that have elements of footwork, rolls, self- defense and whole lot of fun Tuesday and Thursday 3:15-4:00 pm Karate Kids This class is for beginners and white belts that have already earned of few stripes aged 7 to 12 years old. Sessions focuses on karate basics towards a yellow belt, physical fitness, self- defense, introduction to sparring and manners are all part of the program custom to the needs of the children participating in the program. Tuesday and Thursday 4:00-5:00 pm Karate Kids Advanced This class is for children aged 9 to 12 years old that have already earned their yellow belt. This class focuses on karate basics towards their next belt. This particular year we are heading towards orange and if all goes well hopefully a green belt. This group will be invited to participate in competitions this season in sparring and kata against kids from other schools that are at the same level as our students. Youth aged 13 and up are welcome in this class. Hopefully over time we will build a teen class. Tuesday and Thursday 5:00-6:00 pm TOP Karate looks forward to another fun and successful year at Central School! You can get instant confirmation of your spots in the programs you choose. You will require an address in order to get your confirmation # and print out a receipt for your payment. To access the registration website please visit the Central Community Elementary School Website then click on the Community Programs button on the homepage. If you do not wish to register online there is still an option to register by filling out the paper registration forms. They are located on the Central Community School website in the Community Programs Page or can be picked up at the Office. Please return complete forms and payments by cash or cheque made payable to Central Community School. All registrations are on first come, first serve basis.
