7 TALLULAH ACADEMY / DELTA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL HISTORY In September of 1967, the dreams of excellence in education became a reality through the efforts of hard working parents as Delta Christian School opened its doors to grades one through seven. Three years later, with the addition of another building, Tallulah Academy / Delta Christian School was transformed into a fully accredited educational institution comprised of grades one through twelve. As over 400 students entered its halls, the buildings truly became a school, filled with a great pride and a spirit that is as indomitable now as it was in ACADEMICS TALLULAH ACADEMY Accredited by both the Louisiana State Department of Education and the Mississippi Private School Association, Tallulah Academy, grades seven through twelve, is centrally heated and air conditioned. It consists of thirteen classrooms, a science laboratory, a computer laboratory, a library with reading room, a gymnasium and a cafeteria, a comprehensive resource program that includes 504 accommondations, tutoring, and (my reading coach). Tallulah Academy provides many enrichment activities as part of its curriculum. College bound students have opportunities in chemistry, algebra, trigonometry, economics, physical science, physics, biology, earth science, life science, civics, world geography, world history, computer science, Spanish, English grammar, literature, composition, advanced composition and research, fine arts, and college prep. DELTA CHRISTIAN Accredited by both the Louisiana State Department of Education and the Mississippi Private School Association, Delta Christian consists of twelve large classrooms, centrally heated and air conditioned, housing the kindergarten and grades one through six. The teachers use the Lippincott phonetic approach to teaching reading, supplemented with A Beka reading material. The elementary school has its own reading room in the centralized library, and emphasizes the Accelerated Reading computer program for reading enrichment. Each class visits the library on a regularly scheduled basis. In 1992, a computer laboratory was placed in the elementary school. Each class, kindergarten through sixth grade, uses this laboratory on a regularly scheduled class. Every opportunity is given for a child to develop to his greatest potential. The Kindergarten is a modified Montessori program. The three and four-year-olds are in a self-contained classroom where both practical and sensorial skills are taught. The portion of the kindergarten housing the five and six-year-olds is divided into two rooms. Math and language are the main subjects in one room, while art, practical life, and sensorial materials are used in the other. Both rooms work together in teaching social values, science, social studies, and health. EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND SPORTS Many active organizations and groups help make the Academy s extra curricular program outstanding: these include National Honor Society, National Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, 4-H Clubs, Lettermen s Club, Annual Staff, cheerleaders, and dance team. Tallulah Academy participates each year in the District Literary Rally at Louisiana Tech University, and the State Rally at Louisiana State University competing against Louisiana students public and private. Tallulah Academy also participates in the MAIS- ABC Rally competing against member schools in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Arkansas. Tallulah Academy students make an impressive showing with a significant number of students advancing to the highest level of competition. Tallulah Academy operates a full-scale athletic program. Boy s sports include football, basketball, track, tennis, baseball, and golf. Girl s sports include basketball, track, tennis, and softball. The athletic department of Tallulah Academy is highly competitive and has received much recognition, illustrated by the following. SPORTS TITLES FOOTBALL VARSITY STATE CHAMPION 1972, 1979, 1980, 1992
