1 Scratch Game Design (Grade 3-5, Beginners) Scratch was developed at MIT as a graphical programming language, and this course is designed to cultivate interests of younger students. In this course, elementary school students will be introduced to fundamental programming concepts. Students will learn how to create animations, computer games, and interactive projects using Scratch. Students create their own computer game and share it with their E2 instructor and classmates. No previous programming skills are required, but students should be comfortable using a computer and browser, and managing files. Date and Time: June 22 nd 26 th, 2:00PM 5:00PM Session #2: E2 in D2 Date and Time: July 27 th 31 st, 9:00AM Noon Young students taking a first coding class grade 2 in school Designing and creating digital programs Confidence to try new things Practice design-based thinking solving skills If-then statements Loops Logic skills Debugging skills (attention to detail) Variables (time permitting)
2 Scratch Makers Workshop (Grade 3-5, Intermediate & Advanced) Course Description Prerequisite: experience with computer programming in a course or ASA with Scratch or other language. The Scratch Makers Workshop empowers for young coders to apply their imaginations using both software and hardware in real-world projects. Scratch was developed at MIT as a graphical programming language, and this course allows students to design and build projects that connect Scratch with the real world using Makey Makey kits. This course builds on student s prior experience with Scratch to program and remix projects. Sample projects: Create and Program Your Musical Instrument Design Your Scratch Operation Game Video Sensing Program and Build Your Labyrinth Date and Time: June 29 th July 3 rd, 2:00PM 5:00PM Session #2: ISHCMC Date and Time: August 3 rd 7 th, 9:00AM Noon Young students who have already taken a coding class grade 2 in school Creating digital programs that interface with the physical world Practice design-based thinking solving skills Teamwork in modern programming methods Hardware software integration Advanced Scratch MakeyMakey Variables Remixing code Paired programming

Curriculum and materials are derived from Stanford University s introductory computer programming course by actual teachers at Stanford. This camp will introduce students to programming in JavaScript, and is part of a full year-long series that is equivalent to college-level computer science courses. Participation includes access to a library of video lectures, examples, and exercises. Because curriculum is individually-paced and there is an entire year of material available, students looking for an in-depth experience should sign up for both sessions. Students are expected to bring their own Windows or Mac laptops, while all software and other materials will be provided. Students taking a first coding class grade 5 in school Year Long Curriculum + Lesson Plans Web-based Videos, Examples, and Exercises Instant feedback on your code Basic Programming Concepts JavaScript programming language Graphics and Game Creation Data structures
4 Robotics Workshop (Grade 4-12) Based on the LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 robotics kits, this course introduces students to the exciting world of robotics. Combining the versatility of the LEGO building system and intuitive drag-and-drop EV3 software, this course will have students engineering cool robots and learning visual programming from the first day. The workshop is an engaging opportunity for students to problem-solve in real life and gain exposure to STEM activities. This course requires the ability to work in teams and desire to have fun learning! For those who have robotics experience, we will build upon this prior knowledge.
