1 PENAIR POST Headteacher - Mrs Nicky Edmondson GCSE S CONTINUE... The year 11 s have been revising and working hard for their GCSE s that are ongoing after the half term. Teachers are encouraging them to stay positive, get lots of sleep and take lots of breaks in between revision sessions. It is important our students stay relaxed during this period so that they can properly retain the information they have learnt. Good luck year 11 s you can do it! Year 11 Leavers Assembly On Friday 22nd we said a very sad goodbye for now to our year 11 s, who have left lessons but have yet to complete all of their exams. The assembly was held in the main hall after the students had been given clean white Penair T-shirts for each other to sign and keep as a momento of their years together. Videos the students made were displayed on the projectors and it s safe to say they kept their audience amused! Words of wisdom were given by both Mrs Edmondson and Mrs Hosking who has been their head of year during their time at the school. We had some fantastic performers to add to the assembly who received tremendous applause. After the assembly the year 11 s were taken through to the library where they were able to feast on a large buffet provided by the kitchen. Students were then filmed giving advice to the year 10 s who will soon be stepping into their shoes. The afternoon was a perfect end to the term and I m sure our students will take many wonderful memories and lasting friendships with them on the rest of their journey following Penair. However, we will be expecting to see them in school up until their exams for their studying, even though they are off timetable! They won t get away with it that easily!

2 Devoran School and Penair get cooking! Thirty-one year three students from Devoran school came to us on Friday to make squash it sandwiches with Mrs Crump and Penairs student mentors from Let s Get Cooking. Claire Vickers from Fifteen Cornwall came in to see the students use the video link with Jamie Oliver. Everyone agreed it was lots of fun and students were given recipes and healthy cookbooks to help them cook at home. Well done everyone! Please would you pass my thanks to Maxine Crump and her team for all their incredible hard work in putting together another fantastic lesson/ workshop with their fabulous Let s Get Cooking Club. The added bonus and surprise was to see Year 3 children from Devoran Primary School being mentored by the Let s Get Cooking Club students, the patience, confidence and sense of empowerment should be congratulated and celebrated amongst your staff and these students. Your team made me feel most welcome and I was completely bowled over by the level of work, detail and commitment that they expressed for Food Revolution Day and the significance of Jamie Oliver s campaign to see all G20 countries have food education as compulsory within schools. 4 Individual Achievements Girl of the Match On Monday 13th April our year 8 girls circuit team welcomed Taunton School to a friendly fixture on our Astro. Taunton School girls cricket team were doing a tour of Cornwall at the time so we relished the opportunity to play them in a competitive match. English Schools Track and Field Cup results Tuesday 12th May Junior Boys 7th and Inter Boys 3rd. Out of 19 schools. Wednesday 13th May Junior Girls 11th and Inter Girls 8th. Out of 16 schools. There were some great individual results from this event. Daniel Burnett Yr 8 won the Shot with a putt of 9m 70. Felix Brown Yr 10 won High Jump with a NEW Personal Best of 1m 63. He also won the hurdles in a time of 12.8 sec. Despite playing well and all Penairs girls scoring runs and taking wickets we lost the game. However girl of the match was Louise Mitchell who scored over 20 runs, took 2 wickets and a catch. Our girls teams now look forward to a tournament in June at Camborne Crciket club and Perrenporth beach. My Coad (Girls Cricket Coach) Sports Achievements Ciaran Trevena won the pole vault with a seasons best 2m 90 and came 2nd behind Felix in hurdles by 0.1 sec! James Francis-King came 2nd in the discus with a throw of 23.00m. Charlotte Pearn Yr 9 3rd in Shot with a throw of 8m 44. Neve Bernie Yr 8 3rd in 800m in 2m 49.8 On Saturday 9th May Felix Brown Year 10, did particularly well at the Cornwall Schools Combined events. He competed in an Inter Boys age group a year young, against five other Cornish boys; two of them had competed last year for Cornwall. He ended up finishing 2nd overall and will likely gain his own County vest and represent Cornwall at the Regional Finals. 5 Wednesday Cadets- First Aid Training Year 10 visit to TENTh Exhibition On Wednesday 20th May a group of Y10 GCSE Art and Design students visited the Truro College annual exhibition on Lemon Quay. Students viewed work produced as part of the wide range of courses Truro College offer. Students were inspired by the quality of the work on show and they were able to ask questions about the courses and progression to higher education.

7 Guidance on Employment of School Age Children Last updated: 17/04/2015 ANIMATION COMPETITION! Around The Clock is a community project celebrating the restoration of the St Day s Clock Tower, culminating in two nights of events in late October. Working with local groups in St Day The Day-Light Group have commissioned three animation projections to light up the building and its surroundings at these events. Alongside this we are running an animation completion to showcase local talent. We are now looking for submissions of animated shorts, no longer than 4mins, exploring at least one of the following themes: Clocks & Mechanisms, Time, Cornish Heritage, War Memorials and Decay & Restoration. The Judging panel will be made up of professional artists and animators, The Day-Light Group and members of St Day Parish Council. Short listed pieces will be projected on the first night of the celebration and the winning animation chosen by public vote on the night. The winning piece will then have its own screening on the second night, be awarded 75 prize money and be added to our website. There is no age limit for this completion, however all work must be appropriate for all audiences. Works with any inappropriate content will be automatically disqualified. The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Feedback may be available on request on a case by case basis. Technical Requirements: 4mins or less, 1080x1440px, 25fps.
