2 The Master s Academy at Hawthorne Conservatory Integrated Arts Program (IAP) The Hawthorne Conservatory has been blessed to continue to share the gift of music over the last 20 years to students of all ages throughout our community. We are even more excited to now expand our ministry of arts education to include dance & fitness, visual arts and enhanced group music lessons targeted to begin Fall 2015! This enhanced program will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays, and will be called The Master s Academy at Hawthorne. It is specially designed for students who are highly artistic, and have a keen interest and discipline toward mastery in the arts, as well as for outreach to the community, new Hawthorne prospects and Central Presbyterian families. OUR ESSENTIAL BELIEFS WE BELIEVE The ARTS IS > Worship > One with Science > Experiential & Relational Learning > Fosters Innovation OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES Our Creator is our Common Core Standard! (Genesis 1 / Nehemiah 9:6 / John 1) Music is indisputably held as a universal language and foundational link to all arts and sciences. Art is worship; since we are made by The Creator, in HIS image, and inspired by HIS creation, we are given like abilities to co-create and are to do so for HIS kingdom and honor. Artists should produce works that lift up the good, the true and the beautiful both the joys and tragedies portrayed or communicated truthfully for with God we have hope and redemption, but without Him we are lost. Good art tells the truth about the world, the human condition, and God. Art is to be done with excellence, and resound deliverance, bring healing, comfort and joy. Culture should benefit from a wider range of art that advances God s Kingdom principles and can be understood by both Christians and non-christians. 1

3 PROGRAM OVERVIEW & DISTINCTIVES What makes our program distinctive is that we aim to: preserve the integrity, excellence, modesty and beauty of the arts provide morally sound instruction and mentoring according to our guiding principles create an environment that enables ease of mastery through highly qualified and nurturing staff, supervised practice and study hall options foster life skill and interpersonal skill through integration, project work and collaboration PROSPECTS / ENROLLMENT Our Integrated Arts Program is tailored and best suited for the artistic minded student (Mini-Masters ages 3-6, Young Masters ages 7 & up) who desires to invest more study time and focus toward mastery of the arts discipline, who share the above beliefs and guiding principles. Thus, IAP students must take music instruction at HC, and are asked to enroll and commit for the entire year due to the integrated and collaborative nature of this program. Admission in the IAP program is based on student and parent s level of interest and willingness to commit this higher mastery standard, family interview and preliminary student assessment and slot availability. Families not admitted may be placed on the waiting list for future consideration. IAP PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS Young Masters IAP students will be required to present at least two (2) times per semester (Total of 4 dates). Mini-Masters IAP students will be required to present at least (1) time during the session. This can include accompaniment for other students, special presentations at your church and within the community, special events and/or as a part of scheduled Hawthorne Can-Servatory outreach opportunities as published through the conservatory. IAP students will be engaged to develop and present collaborative pieces and productions throughout the year. 2

4 YOUNG MASTERS PROGRAM CLASS DESCRIPTIONS THE MASTER S MUSIC With music as the foundation of the Master s Academy, the private & specialty group music classes will expand student s knowledge of music theory, firm up technique and help increase confidence through more rigorous study and more frequent presentation opportunities. Suzuki, Classical and Group music classes may be weekly or based on sessions, and may include: Recorder o Fun, interactive Recorder Karate curriculum with music theory integrated Choir / Ensemble / Chamber o Study of diverse genres, vocal techniques, sight singing, harmonizing, dynamics and more Drumming o Introduction to the basic drum set with emphasis on rhythm patterns and eye, hand and foot coordination Intro to Theater o most appropriate for ages 7 10 & uses Reader s Theater Scripts with emphasis on reading fluency, oratory, stage presence and communication skill development Musical Theater o Study all aspect of musical theater, including stage presence, set and prop design, character development, voice and projection. May include field studies to local theater productions. Auditions held in October & Spring Musical in March. Spring Camp is production & presentation week and attendance is required. Music Theory integrated with history and hands-on experiences Songwriting & Sound Recording o Introduction to the construction and development techniques of writing beautiful, memorable and impactful melodies and lyrics. Integration of music theory and chord approach and basic recording studio orientation included. Students will study with professional and credited songwriters, and be coached as a team to develop a song. Additional fees may apply for studio experiences. 3

5 Young Masters Ages 7+ Full Season (two (2) semesters) Tuesday & Thursday Tuition: $69 per mo. - $99 per mo. packages Reg. $50 per student (Max $150 per family) Semester 1: August 18 November 21 Semester 2: January 5 May 19 o No class ~ Fall Break Sept. 28 week o No class ~ Spring Break week of March o No class ~ Spring Music Camp week of March 28 April 1 Presentations: Young & Growing IAP students asked to participate in the following Hawthorne Conservatory Annual presentations. Both help students meet IAP Presentation Requirements. o Annual Charity Gala ~ Saturday, November 21,, 6:30pm o Spring Recital week ~ week of May 16 THE MINI-MASTER S ARTS PROGRAM Mini-Masters is designed for the 3-6 year old who is potty trained, and ready to explore creative movement, music and quality visual arts. Our mini-masters will enjoy simple, ageappropriate literary works, along with the finest in timeless music compositions. Then, they will explore art through interpretive movement, artistic expression, copy, rhythm other foundational techniques inspired by the literature selection. Dads - Rest assured! Boys are welcomed and can opt to maximize their time in visual arts and music should interpretive movement & dance not be their cup of tea! SCHEDULE & TUITION OVERVIEW Mini-Masters Ages 3-6 (potty trained) Two (2) Sessions Thursdays Tuition: 6 pmts. of $49 / Supply fee $25 per session Reg. $25 per student (Max $150 per family) Session 1: Thursdays ~ 10am 11am [ August 20 November 12 (no class Fall Break Sept. 28 wk) ] Session 2: Thursdays ~ 10am 11am [ January 7 March 17 (no class Spring Break March 24) ] Presentations: Mini-Masters IAP students asked to present at CPC Prime Timer s Luncheon or a special parent presentation at the end of each session.
