1 A Summer Filmmaking Experience in Atlanta, Georgia Make Friends. Make Movies. Make Memories Camp Flix. A Division of Camp Jam LLC
2 About Us Major motion pictures are filming in Atlanta and all over Georgia. Film crews can be seen all over town and kids want in on the action. CAMP FLIX is Atlanta's premier movie camp -- a one-week, real world experience immersed in the craft of filmmaking. This summer program, offering both Overnight and Day Camp options, introduces kids, ages 11 to 17, to the techniques, language and process of filmmaking and acting. From the idea pitch to the final cut campers will get hands-on instruction in the crafts of both filmmaking and acting, all taught by industry professionals. Kids form small film crews to turn their creative concepts into high quality digital shorts. The campers will learn from industry experts how to market and distribute their own projects, and every camper will walk the red carpet as their movies are screened at a Hollywood-style Friday night gala premiere. Camp Flix is designed for kids with little or no experience in making films. The program focus is on the fundamental elements of visual storytelling that enable participants to direct and edit their own projects. For campers contemplating a longer-term education in filmmaking or a career in the industry, this one-week session is an excellent introduction. It gives campers an understanding of the requirements and rigors of filmmaking as well as experience the exhilaration of making a short film from start to finish. For others, Camp Flix is an opportunity to have fun doing something completely different and learning a new art form. MAKE A SHORT FILM IN A WEEK CAMPFLIX.COM Contact Us: 1(800)
3 CURRICULUM CAMP FLIX was initiatlly developed by Camp Flix management along with an Advisory Board made up of filmmakers, teachers and others in the film/television community. 6 FAQ GENERAL FAQ What does the registration fee include? The registration fee covers the total cost of the camp and includes all instruction, master classes, recreation, supplies and state of the art equipment. For overnight campers it also includes all housing and food costs. What is the daily schedule? Camp Flix hours are from 9:00am to 4:30pm. Monday and Tuesday will provide a broad overview of the filmmaking process and include in-depth sessions on screenwriting, directing, cinematography and editing. Both days are also dedicated to pre-production for the team's filmmaking project, including storyboarding, location scouting, scene writing and blocking, etc. Wednesday and Thursday are our shoot days and on Friday they focus on editing and marketing of their project in preparation for walking the red carpet for their premiere. How will my child be grouped with other campers? Camp Flix staff members will group campers into filmmaking teams according to age and similar movie interests. If a camper has a specific interest in being an Actor, Director, Writer, Cinematographer or Editor on the team project, we will try to accommodate them. Who makes up the staff? The staff is comprised of local filmmakers and other industry professionals and academics who are actively working in the television, film and branded entertainment media, along with the finest college filmmakers from across the country. Do you have before or after camp care? Drop off is available as early as 8:30am at no extra charge. After camp care is available until 5:30pm for $5 per day or $20 per week if paid in advance. If after care is not paid online PRIOR to when the Monday camp begins, a charge of $40 will be applied. Does my child need to bring lunch? Day campers are required to bring their own lunches to Camp Flix. All meals are provided to our overnight campers. Please note that your son/daughter can purchase lunch in the Emory cafeteria as an alternative to bringing their own lunch. This option is not available at Oglethorpe University. What are the safety precautions? Camp Flix adheres to the American Camp Association code. We are dedicated to providing a safe, creative, supportive and fun environment for all who attend. There is a staff member on campus at all times that is CPR certified. Camp Flix strictly enforces a drug-free atmosphere and lifestyle. Campers are expected to follow the camp's prescribed rules of conduct. What is Camp Flix's policy on discipline? Camp Flix has a zero tolerance policy. All campers are provided with the camp's rules of conduct and the parent or guardian must sign the document prior to camper participating in any camp activities. Campers are expected to adhere to the rules. Any camper who does not adhere to the rules will be required to leave and will not be allowed any type of refund. In the event of an emergency, who do we contact? Prior to camp, all parents and campers will be provided with on-location contact numbers for our local Administrator, Overnight Director, and Camp Director. Does Camp Flix offer any scholarships? Yes, on a case by case basis. Click here for more information. WALK THE RED CARPET
7 FAQ OVERNIGHT SPECIFIC FAQ What are the ages for the overnight camp? Camp Flix overnight is for campers from 11 to 17 years of age. What is the staff to camper ratio during the evening hours? Night staff is 8 to 1 (four rooms for every staffer, 2 campers per room). Counselors sleep on the same floor as the campers. What are the advantages of participating in the overnight program versus the day program? The Camp Flix overnight experience has much more to offer a budding filmmaker or actor. It is a 6 day/5 night experience where campers work on multiple films, including the conception, production and editing of a Public Service Announcement for a local or national cause. The overnight campers will also view well-known films selected and hosted by local filmmakers, critics and actors. The evening is also a time when campers can get more hands-on instruction in both filmmaking and editing. When is the drop-off and pick-up for overnight camp? Drop off is on Sunday afternoon between 4:00pm and 5:00pm. Pick-up is at the conclusion of the Friday Night Premiere, approximately 8:00pm. What kind of food and housing are provided for overnight campers? All camper filmmakers are housed in the university dormitories with two campers in each room. The University's cafeteria has a wide selection of foods and vegetarian options are always conveniently available. Girls and boys are in different dorms and will be supervised accordingly. Arrangements can be made for friends who are attending together by specifying a roommate preference while completing your online application. 1(800) ATTEND A HOLLYWOOD-STYLE PREMIERE
