1 Art Wizards Thursdays, 3:45pm-4:45pm, Room 3 $ sessions LASER hosts Art Wizards, an art class for 1st-5th graders that shows students the best ways to use chalk and oil pastel, watercolor, colored pencils and markers. Wonderful art will be brought home for everyone to enjoy. Class minimum: st -5 th Grades Only. Website: [email protected] After School Hoops Thursdays, 3:45pm-4:45pm, Gym $ sessions Join One-on-One Basketball at Laurelhurst Elementary for After School Hoops, an ideal introduction to the most dynamic sport in the world. Our instructors will not only teach your child athletic fundamentals through progressive drills, engaging cardio and fun competitions, but we will use these fundamentals as a platform to teach life-skill lessons that reinforce positive attitudes about effort, respect, cooperation and self-control. Website: [email protected] Clay Animation Network Fridays, 8:25-9:25 am, Room 16 $ sessions Make Your Comic Book Have you ever read a comic book and wanted to make your own? In this class students will use an ipad to draw their own comic book while learning storyboarding, basic character drawing, and 3D drawing. There will be opportunities to read comic books and to use how-to-draw guides in Manga, Anime, and various other styles. On the last day everyone will take home the comic book they created. Additional information can be found on (4 cans). Class is led in a supportive and creative atmosphere by Lukas Allenbaugh, who has 22 years of experience teaching various types of art to children. Website: [email protected] Chess Class (Beginner & Intermediate Levels) Tuesdays, 3:45pm-4:45pm, Library $139-9 sessions No class February 16 th Beginning and intermediate classes are offered by Chess4Life. These classes are available for students in grades K to 5. The class will consist of learning the strategies behind the game of chess and working toward competing in local chess tournaments; but most of all, it's about having fun. Class minimum: 13. 2 Creative Coding 4 Kids Fridays, 3:45pm-5:15pm, Computer Lab $316, 10 sessions Creative Coding teaches your child the joy of computer programming by helping them write their own custom computer games and animations! Beginner students will participate in the Creative Coding core curriculum, learning the fundamental elements of coding using MIT's Scratch to create their very own computer game! Advanced coders (students with previous Scratch experience) will enjoy the Advanced Curriculum, where each day contains a unique mix of coding challenges techniques, and hacks. Our classes are designed to be repeated as many times as desired. Each time, kids increase their coding skills, speed and proficiency. Each session is an "all levels" class with two teachers present - one to instruct the beginners and one dedicated to the advanced coders. Many parents and educators are realizing that the benefits of learning to code at a young age extend far beyond the skill itself. Through the "brain exercise" of coding, coders build intelligence like athletes build muscles. Just as importantly, they develop stronger problem solving skills, confidence over technology, and emotional persistence. Class Minimum: rd 5 th Grades Only. This fun filled class is open to all Laurelhurst students K-2nd grade. Through theater games and exercises, students will explore how actors use their bodies, voices and imaginations to tell stories and create characters. Whether you are new to the stage or consider yourself a veteran performer there will be something for everyone in this creative class. By mixing engaging building activities with the endless creative options of the LEGO system, our classes provide a hands-on way for students to develop problem solving skills, learn to collaborate as a team, and gain the confidence that comes from harnessing their creativity. 3 Made Sewing Thursdays, 8:00-9:25 am, Room 16 $198, 10 sessions Join the before-school sewing club and jump into the exciting world of machine and hand sewing with us! In this club we learn both hand and machine sewing through making oodles of fun projects that might include messenger bags, zipper totes, infinity scarves, monsters and more. No experience necessary and all supplies will be provided. Class Minimum: 6. 2 nd 5 th Grades Only. Website: [email protected] Next Generation Yoga Tuesdays, 8:25-9:25 am, Room 16 $149, 9 sessions No class February 16 th Jennifer Olson is a Next Generation Yoga teacher who infuses education and play through movement and breath by incorporating theme activities, storytelling, games, art and the natural enthusiasms of 6, 7 and 8 year old children. These yoga classes promote confidence, creativity, community and fun through conveying lessons in social skills, positive thinking, self-expression and environmental awareness. Class minimum: 5. Website: [email protected] New Dimensions of Art Tuesdays, 3:45pm-4:45pm, Room 16 $124-9 sessions No class February 16 th Explore the world of fine art using various mediums while learning the fundamentals of fine art. The Art Workshop teaches classes that will cover clay sculpting, mixed media, printmaking, fiber art, oil painting, scratch art and 3D clay models. Class minimum: 10. K-5 th Grades. LASER hosts Music Lessons on Wheels. Enjoy piano lessons and music instruction at Laurelhurst Elementary at a fraction of the cost for private lessons. Each session is a 30-minute paired lesson or you may choose a private lesson for an additional fee. TGA Premier Junior Golf brings the golf course to your school! Our national, award winning, 5 level program is specially designed for children and builds upon the educational concepts they are learning in the class room. Fun comes first in every TGA class, but our curriculum also focuses on instilling self-confidence and life values through professional golf instruction. Students learn the fundamentals, etiquette and rules of the game. TGA, in national partnership with the United States Tennis Association, co-designed a tennis enrichment program that focuses on athletic, academic and character development for children. The TGA curriculum uses tennis equipment that is modified to be size appropriate and safe, so we can turn the school gym into a tennis court. In addition to professional tennis instruction, your child will take part in a combination of physical fitness for health benefits and academics such as math, science, language and social studies for educational development. Every class focuses on social interaction, developing positive character traits and most importantly having fun! The instructors use a variety of enjoyable activities such as games, songs and stories to teach vocabulary. This is the ultimate dance-fitness party for young Zumba fans, where they can play it loud and rock with friends to their own rules! This program features age-appropriate music and moves that get kids movin to the beat. Zumba Kids is all about feeling fearless on the dance floor, reinforcing the idea that it s okay to just be yourself and dance like no one s watching! ALL THEY NEED IS A BEAT!
