1 Position Description Position Title: Data Management Specialist Reports To: Manager Infrastructure Division: Information and Technology Department: Service Management Direct Reports: Nil Employment Conditions: (Management and Administrative Staff) Enterprise Agreement 2010 Primary Objective: This role is responsible to ensure that all Data Centre and Disaster Recovery Infrastructure is deployed, managed and operating as per the specifications required. The position is also responsible to develop, test and coordinate Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan functions within the infrastructure platform. 3 Key Responsibilities Key Result Area Operational & Technical Management Key Accountabilities Support and enhance IT Infrastructure operations in order to maintain a competitive service for the business Proactively perform Demand management, Capacity Planning management and threshold management across Data Centre infrastructure and recommend growth forecasts for management consideration, including rack space and electrical power Design and manage systems to proactively monitor Data Centre storage, networking and compute capacity and systems availability Document and gain CIO sign-off for the IT Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Plan Perform Annual IT Disaster Recovery Testing across the infrastructure and implement service improvement initiatives as a result of DR Test recommendations Maintain Cabling Standards and keep up-to-date and accurate Data Centre Cabling/Patching Records across designated sites for all voice and data connectivity Ensure that the strategic IT Roadmap is implemented for Data Centre operations and projects Assist in the validation of technical infrastructure design specification against standards and policies to ensure good practice IT infrastructure is in place Assist in designing data centre networking in conjunction with network engineers Design and maintain virtualisation alerting, resource scheduling and load balancing policies Ensure adherence to change control policies and procedure for all activities associated with the data centres Financial Management Manage projects relating to the delivery of Data Centres Infrastructure including preparation and monitoring of budgets Ensure adherence to the relevant government procurement guidelines Business Relationship Provide a single Point of responsibility for Data Centre services for and is a key escalation and compliance point for on matters associated with Data Centres Provide and organise access to Data Centres for internal stakeholders and third parties as required Engage with the business to better understand the business drivers in order to ensure services delivered align with business needs and expectations Provide and enhance service and cost transparency to the business Date of Issue: June 2011 Position Number: Page 3 of 6

4 Contract & Third Party Relationship Management Processes, standards, compliance and improvement Relationship Management with Data Centre, Hardware & Software Service providers and Carrier Service providers in order to develop a strong partnership delivering win-win benefits to the business and it s chosen providers Facilitate the various Provider(s) in order to deliver robust, cost effective and sustainable Data Centre and Network Services to the Continuously seek opportunities to improve operational excellence, optimise operational costs through simplified, documented and repeatable processes and use of new/emerging technologies Develop policies, standards and operational procedures relating to data centre and backup infrastructure Date of Issue: June 2011 Position Number: Page 4 of 6

5 Selection Criteria Essential Qualifications and Experience Significant experience as a practitioner in Information & Technology Data Management environment which is supported by an appropriate tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Science or related field ITIL V3 Foundation Certificate in Service Management Demonstrated experience in a Data Centre management role with hands on knowledge of Servers and midrange infrastructure, voice/data networks, LAN/WAN management, monitoring tools, capacity planning, and disaster recovery/business continuity planning (with some additional cross service line competencies) Experience in design, maintenance and optimisation of VMWare and Hyper-V Hypervisors Strong understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems installed in a virtualised environment Demonstrated experience in managing and maintaining midrange storage area networks Demonstrated success in managing end-to-end delivery of the Data Centres and related enterprise infrastructure Thorough technical understanding of new/emerging Data Centre technologies and the business drivers behind them Strong market awareness and commercial judgement Key Skills & Attributes Excellent planning, organising and time management skills to effectively establish the priority and scheduling of work tasks and projects to ensure work priorities are completed on time and within budget Strong interpersonal and influencing skills to gain the acceptance and support of ideas, cooperation of others, and the ability to modify styles and techniques to accommodate tasks, situations and individuals Conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills to enable the identification of issues and the judgement to determine appropriate courses of action for achieving long-range organisational goals Effective verbal and written communication skills to enable ideas and opinions to be expressed clearly and effectively, effective interaction with staff and key stakeholders and to enable the preparation of well-structured, accurate and concise documents and reports Relationship building skills to take appropriate action to develop strong and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders Team skills to actively participate as a member of a team and move the team towards the completion of both team and individual goals Desirable Qualifications, Experience & Skills Ability to manage small to medium-sized projects from scoping to Post Implementation Review Date of Issue: June 2011 Position Number: Page 5 of 6
