2 About Engineers Australia, College of Biomedical Engineering, Australian Biomedical Engineering Conference (ABEC) INVITATION The Australian Biomedical Engineering Conference (ABEC) 2015 will be occurring from Sunday 22 to Wednesday 25 November 2015 at the University of Melbourne, Parkville campus, Melbourne, Australia. ABEC is the major conference for the College of Biomedical Engineers within Engineers Australia (EA). EA is the national forum for the advancement of engineering and the professional development of our members. With more than 85,000 members embracing all disciplines of the engineering team, EA is the largest and most diverse professional body for engineers in Australia. The College of Biomedical Engineers is for members of EA who work closely with medical practitioners, health-industry professional, and vehicle and safety equipment manufacturers to enhance human life. INVITATION On behalf of the organising committee, we are delighted to invite you to participate in ABEC 2015, From Research to Better Health. Biomedical Engineering is an integral part of modern health care. Biomedical Engineering teams bring their skills to a broad range of fields including Clinical Engineers managing all aspects of the health technology lifecycle; Rehabilitation Engineers taking lead roles as front line clinicians in assessment, design and manufacture of assistive technology for people with disabilities; engineers in industry developing and manufacturing medical devices; engineers leading or supporting standards development, review and implementation across the health care sector; researchers working closely with other clinicians or industry partners to develop new technologies and procedures. Engineers Australia's, College of Biomedical Engineers recognises the diverse nature of the work of Biomedical Engineers and is looking to celebrate this through ABEC ABEC 2015 will bring together all branches of Biomedical Engineering into one conference to focus on the role engineering has to play in improving health care outcomes. We expect to attract some exciting speakers from both Australia and aboard and have social events perfect for networking and building contacts and friendships. The attendance has been increasing rapidly at the past few conferences and we have found from previous feedback that this opportunity has proved to be very rewarding for exhibitors and sponsors. In conjunction with the learning experience of international and national experts in the field, and significant networking opportunities of the conference, we anticipate a large industry exhibition in support of on-going innovations and improvements in Biomedical Engineering. 4 *New opportunity* Health Purchasing Victoria medical equipment demonstration events at ABEC. In a new opportunity for ABEC exhibitors, Health Purchasing Victoria (HPV) will offer medical equipment suppliers an opportunity to demonstrate their products to a targeted audience of clinical staff across Victoria s public hospitals. This will provide a unique opportunity for suppliers to target time-poor clinicians and demonstrate their products to a much larger audience of hospital staff and reduce the prohibitive costs of arranging one-on-one demonstrations in a hospital setting. These presentation events will run over all days of the conference in 1-hour time slots and will target the key themes of Medical Imaging (Monday 23 November), Acute Care (All time allocations are taken) and Clinical Equipment (Anaesthetic) (All time allocations are taken). HPV would directly market the equipment demonstration events to its health service contacts. During the allocated time, suppliers can present on new product innovations as well as demonstrate existing equipment to clinical staff in the relevant theme areas. Hospital staff participating would be registered in advance and be able to book in for the sessions of relevance to them. Following the presentations, the health service staff would attend the trade display area from 1.30pm, maximising the exposure for suppliers already exhibiting at ABEC. Please note if you are a current ABEC Exhibitor or Sponsor, you can select the HPV Presentation Option when you are registering as part of the standard ABEC sponsorship package. If you are not exhibiting or sponsoring at ABEC, the HPV Presentation Option will be available as an additional option of $ plus GST. HPV helps public health care service deliver high quality patient care by ensuring they have a reliable and agile supply chain. The registrant is excluded from attending the conference sessions, conference welcome reception and conference dinner. However this can be purchased separately if required. To ensure your sponsorship selection or the number of trade booths you require, please book early. Late bookings are possible but choices may be limited. Specific stands have been set aside for each sponsorship package until (1 st September 2015). After this time, the trade booths will be allocated on a first-come firstserved basis. General Information / Terms and Conditions Final Payment Settlement of all outstanding monies is required by no later than 30 days after receipt of the tax invoice or 30 days prior to the conference, whichever is earlier. If full payment is not received within this time, the Organising Committee reserves the right to re-assign your sponsorship or trade booth without notice. Cancellation All cancellation of bookings must be made in writing and forwarded to I Am Events. Cancellations received before 15 th August 2015 will receive a refund of all payments, less an administration fee of the $ including GST. Exhibition Build Details of the exhibition build company contracted for this event will be outlined in the Exhibitor Manual provided to each confirmed exhibitor approximately 4 weeks prior to the event. They can assist with stand design and have a wide range of accessories for hire. There is limited three phase power available at the venue. Please contact the Conference Manager as soon as possible if this required. Freight and Storage Early delivery and storage is available. It is recommended that your freight forwarding company is used to assist with arrangements for delivery and pickup of your goods. Security The exhibition area will be locked each evening. It is suggested that no easily removed valuable items be left overnight or unattended. No responsibility can be taken for any loss or damage to equipment and display materials. Insurance Only Public Liability Insurance is included. Insurance for loss or damage to equipment or products within the exhibition or during transport is the responsibility of the exhibitor.
