2 An invitation The Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia (PIEFA) is holding a world first event that will draw together national and international leaders in Food and Fibre Education in Canberra in May Every three years the Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia (PIEFA) Conference explores innovative approaches to primary industries education from the perspectives of teachers and academics, industry representatives, State and Federal policy makers and researchers. This makes it a unique event on the primary industries calendar. Our next Conference will be held at the Realm Hotel in Canberra from 1-3 May 2016 and we ll be exploring the theme Food and fibre matters. The Conference will include stand out national and international keynote speakers, workshops, lightning presentations, a trade area and networking events. These all combine to provide delegates with a deep understanding of what s working and why, as well as a large dose of inspiration. Our 2016 Conference will not only showcase the best Australia has to offer, but delegates will learn from the overseas experience, with four international keynote speakers confirmed. But the PIEFA Conference is much more than an information exchange. It connects people who share the same passion for primary industries education and creates lasting cross-sector partnerships and collaboration. RHET aims to provide the opportunity for every child in Scotland to learn about food, farming and the countryside, and to create a wider understanding of the environmental, economic and social realities of rural Scotland. Jay Jackman Executive Director National Association of Agricultural Educators United States The National Association of Agricultural Educators is a federation of state agricultural educators associations. Members are involved in school-based agricultural education at any level, from middle school through postsecondary, and state and national agricultural education leaders. NAAE advocates for agricultural education, provides professional development for agricultural educators, and works to recruit and retain agricultural educators in the profession. Andy Somerville Chief Executive Officer Primary Industries Capacity Alliance (PICA) New Zealand PICA is a growing collaboration between New Zealand Young Farmers, DairyNZ, Beef and Lamb New Zealand, Primary ITO, Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre, Ministry for Primary Industries, Lincoln University, Aoraki Polytechnic and the Foundation for Arable Research, set up to develop and implement a capability strategy for the wider primary industries. Dr Susumu Takakuwa Emeritus Professor, Kyoto Women s University, Japan He is actively involved in the teaching of Environmental Education, Earth Studies and Education for Sustainable Development at several universities and is currently researching the history and cultural significance of the native Cryptomeria japonica tree in Satoyama, Japan. Food and fibre related education programs for early childhood and primary teachers studying at the Kyoto Women s University have also been developed. Dr Takakuwa is widely published and has presented papers widely across a range of areas including environmental education, ecology, compost production from food waste, charcoal production, sustainable food production, and the history of the Japanese cedar tree.
