Prcedure Supprt services The Manager Internatinal Marketing is the designated Cntact Officer wh is respnsible fr the prvisin f supprt services t internatinal students. The cntact details f this fficer and all staff with designated respnsibilities under the supervisin f the Manager are made available t internatinal students at the Orientatin prgram. The supprt services prvided by WAI will include: Free airprt receptin services thrugh an independent peratr. Free accmmdatin advice services thrugh links with independent accmmdatin prviders and real estate agencies. On-campus Medical Centre with medical practitiners in attendance in a private practice (all internatinal students are required t take ut Overseas Student Health Cver (OSHC). Orientatin prgram c-rdinated and managed by the Manager Internatinal Office, Recreatin and Liaisn Crdinatr and the teaching departments. Learning Advisrs appinted t assist with the challenges f the Australian learning envirnment. Internatinal Crdinatrs appinted in each teaching department and reprting t the heads f teaching departments and prviding reprts n required matters t Internatinal Office. Access t Cunsellrs, including registered psychlgists in the Cunselling and Persnal Develpment Centre. Recreatin and scial activities rganised and c-rdinated by the Recreatin and Liaisn Crdinatr. Encurage Internatinal students t get invlved in the many scial activities thrughut the academic year which is crdinated by the Recreatin and Liaisn Crdinatr. Invitatin t jin the Alumni upn graduatin. Access t the Institute s grievance prcedures. Advice n affrdable, independent dispute reslutin rganisatins. The Manager Internatinal Marketing will ensure that infrmatin n all supprt services is available t internatinal students r intending internatinal students in the curse guide, bth Internatinal Student Supprt Services Prcedure Page 1 f 6

2 written and in electrnic frm prir t enrlment (see Internatinal Student Admissin Prcedure; Marketing Infrmatin t Internatinal Student s Prcedures). Internatinal students r intending internatinal students will be required t sign a declaratin n the Applicatin fr Enrlment as an Internatinal Student frm t the effect that: I have read the Institute Curse and Infrmatin Guide fr Internatinal Students (Year) and the instructins n this applicatin frm and that the infrmatin prvided by me is true and crrect. Internatinal students r intending internatinal students will als be required t declare n the Acceptance Agreement fr an Intending Internatinal Student Frm alng with payment f their first semester tuitin fees and visa length OSHC premium (if apprpriate) (see Internatinal Student Admissin Prcedure) t the effect that: During the term f the Curse, I agree t: 12. I must attend learning supprt and/r Cunselling Sessins at the Institute if requested t d s. 13. I will seek assistance frm the Institute teachers, cunsellrs and ther supprt staff as sn as I experience difficulties with any aspect f my curse r living in Melburne. The Manager Internatinal Marketing will instruct staff in the Internatinal Office that internatinal students r intending internatinal students will nt be ffered enrlment unless the declaratin as abve is signed by the internatinal student r intending internatinal student. Cpies f these signed dcuments are t be kept n the student files. Airprt On-Arrival and Accmmdatin Placement Services The Manager Internatinal Marketing will: Liaise with the Manager Internatinal Office t ensure an efficient and cst effective airprt receptin service fr newly arrived internatinal is negtiated and mnitred fr cmpliance with acceptable service standards. The cst f this service is t be met by the Institute fr internatinal students nly. Liaise with the Manager Internatinal Office t ensure apprpriate accmmdatin placement ptins are readily available and accessible fr newly arrived internatinal students at reasnable prices. The accmmdatin ptins will include shrt-term accmmdatin prperties such as drmitries, student hstels r budget htels. Lng-term ptins will include private accmmdatin, the Student Village, r intrductins t real estate agents r the Recreatin and Liaisn Crdinatr, Cunsellrs r Accmmdatin fficers at ther Melburne educatinal institutins such as RMIT University wh may be able t intrduce students t a wider range f accmmdatin ptins. The accmmdatin advice/placement services fr newly arrived and cntinuing internatinal students will be a free service prvided by the Institute but students will be required t negtiate payment f rent and all ther assciated charges directly with the accmmdatin prvider. Supervise staff in Internatinal Office in c-rdinating the prvisin f the airprt n arrival service and accmmdatin placement service when a signed Airprt On-arrival and Accmmdatin Placement Service Request Frm is received frm an internatinal student r intending internatinal student r an accredited Institute representative n behalf f the student. Medical Centre The Manager Internatinal Marketing will: Liaise with the Medical Centre Manager (Lcated in Building C Level 2) regarding the current service prvided, cntact details and hurs f peratin t ensure this infrmatin is prvided t internatinal students at the Internatinal Orientatin prgram. Internatinal Student Supprt Services Prcedure Page 2 f 6

3 Liaise with the Recreatin and Liaisn Crdinatr t ensure that the Medical Centre n campus is prmted during the Internatinal Student Orientatin Prgram. Make sure all Internatinal students knw where the Medical Centre is lcated; this ccurs during guided tur f the Institute campus during VET /HE Orientatin. Als the Medical Centre is very much highlighted in all student resurces and n mywai Student Prtal. Orientatin Prgram The Manager Internatinal Marketing will: Liaise with the Manager Angliss Internatinal fr the c-rdinatin and management f the Orientatin Prgram fr newly arrived internatinal fr each intake. Crdinate the cmpilatin f an Orientatin Kit which will include: A list f Institute fficers with respnsibilities fr prviding supprt services fr internatinal students including the Cntact Officer (the Manager Internatinal Marketing), Internatinal Office staff, Learning Advisrs, Internatinal Crdinatrs, Cunsellrs and their cntact details. An Accmmdatin and Finance Guide cntaining a range f accmmdatin ptins, advice n renting, real estate agents and ther relevant infrmatin. Advice that internatinal students are required t ntify the Institute in writing using the apprved Institute frm f their new address and cntact details within seven days f mving. Advice regarding satisfactry attendance and academic prgress in accrdance with cnditins f the student visa. Advice that internatinal students have access t an external independent dispute reslutin rganisatin such as the Overseas Student Ombudsman. A frm is prvided t students t cllect and cnfirm student cntact details. The frm includes a declaratin that students are aware that the Institute is required t release certain details t relevant gvernment departments n their attendance and academic perfrmance (see Ntificatin f Internatinal Student Breaches f Visa Cnditins t Authrities Prcedures). Advice n medical services and the OSHC administratin. Advice n part-time, casual emplyment and careers cunselling available thrugh the Careers Advisr Advice n persnal and fire safety. Advice n linkages between the Institute and prviders f degree curses and negtiated credit arrangements. Liaise with the Manager Internatinal Office t c-rdinate and manage with the Orientatin Prgram with: Internatinal Office Staff Manager and Enrlment fficers in the Infrmatin Centre (IC) Internatinal Crdinatrs Learning Advisrs Recreatin and Liaisn Crdinatr Cunsellrs in the Cunselling and Persnal Develpment Centre Learning Advisrs Learning Advisrs are an integral service fr internatinal students. The Learning Advisrs are qualified t help Internatinal Students with their learning needs. The Manager Internatinal Marketing will ensure Learning Advisrs are aware f their respnsibilities under the ESOS legislatin thrugh meetings (when required). Learning Advisrs will: Cnduct an infrmatin sessin fr newly arrived internatinal students during their Orientatin Prgram. Assist internatinal students with the fllwing services: -. 4 Writing and planning fr assessment Understanding assignments and curse wrk English language (grammar, writing etc.) Research and referencing Time and study management Numeracy, math s and finance Liaise with Internatinal Crdinatrs in the prgram areas shuld issues arise during cnsultatin with internatinal students ver assignments, assessments, classrm management issues r ther matters stemming ut f the teaching f curses. Have the pprtunity t undertake prfessinal develpment prgrams t build their expertise and understanding f hw t assist internatinal students adjust t their life as students in Australia and t assist internatinal students reslve prblems that culd impede cmpletin f their studies. Grievance Reslutin All cmmencing internatinal students and cntinuing internatinal students will be prvided with a cpy f the annual Student Handbk, Living in Melburne: William Angliss Institute and the Student Cde f Cnduct at Orientatin r at re-enrlment (see Internatinal Students Enrlment and Re-enrlment Prcedures). The Institute s student prtal MyWAI, Student Handbk, Student Cde f Cnduct cntains Plicies and Guidelines which apply t all students enrlled at the Institute n such matters as: Student prgress Assessment Grievance prcedures Articulatin Staff Attendance Lateness Learning Resurce Centre Health and Safety Security Student Discipline Graduatin Presentatin f written wrk Referencing in assignments Other matters relevant t successful studies at the Institute An utline f the grievance plicies and prcedures will be prvided at the rientatin sessin and students are encuraged t read the details in the Institute Student Handbk and encuraged t use the Student Prtal Students have t right t a supprt persn at infrmal r frmal Institute Grievance Cmmittee hearings. The Assciate Directrs may call upn Internatinal Office staff t participate in frmal Institute Grievance Cmmittee t hear a frmal grievance frm internatinal r ther students. The Institute will refer internatinal students t the Overseas Students Ombudsman t reslve a dispute shuld a dispute nt be reslved thrugh frmal Institute grievance reslutin prcedures with an internatinal student. Ensuring infrmatin n Overseas Students Ombudsman is available. Learning Advisrs Accuntable fr: Assisting internatinal students with prblems faced in a classrm situatin, assignments, assessment r ther issues relating t their studies. Liaising with Internatinal Crdinatrs when students reprt difficulties with their studies caused by timetables, persnality clashes with teachers r ther students r ther issues arising ut f classrm management prcedures. Liaising with the Cunsellrs when students present with persnal difficulties which call fr interventin frm trained psychlgists. Internatinal Student Supprt Services Prcedure Page 5 f 6

6 Cunselling and Persnal Develpment Accuntable fr: Prviding cnfidential cunselling services t internatinal students. Prviding ther student welfare services, such as accmmdatin advice and links t cmmunity supprt services.. Internatinal Crdinatrs Accuntable fr: Assisting with understanding the curse and requirements, timetables, assignments and assessment tasks etc. Helping with prblems with classes r teachers, and they can rganise supprt services such as extra help with English and study, careers r cunselling. Checking that internatinal students are prgressing in their curse and attending classes. They will cntact internatinal students wh are having prblems in their studies t find ut why, and t ffer assistance and supprt. Referring students t Learning Advisrs, Cunselling, Student Activities and Careers and Emplyment The Internatinal Crdinatrs are there t help make study at William Angliss as successful and enjyable as pssible. Recreatin and Liaisn Crdinatr Accuntable fr: Assisting in the rientatin f cmmencing Internatinal students during the Orientatin Day. Making sure that the Orientatin is meeting the needs f the Internatinal students s they can transitin int the William Angliss Institute Cmmunity. Prviding a brad range f nging recreatinal and scial activities fr students. Als during the academic year highlight imprtant health and wellbeing initiatives. Make sure students are aware f the many discunts n ffer frm varius businesses Prvide resurces like Living in Melburne: Studying at William Angliss, and ther useful guides Referring students t Prgram Leaders, Medical Centre, Cunsellrs, Learning Advisrs, Internatinal Crdinatrs shuld students present with prblems assciated with studies.
