2 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHAT IS AN APPRENTICEHIP OR TRAINEESHIP? Apprenticeships and Traineeships cmbine emplyment and training that lead t a natinally recgnised qualificatin. Individuals wh undertake an Apprenticeship r Traineeship: Sign a Training Cntract which is State Gvernment apprved Wrk with an emplyer t gain hands n practical experience Are registered with a Natinally Registered Training Prvider t attend training and gain a Natinally Recgnised Qualificatin. Training can be cmpleted n r ff the jb r bth, and is varied based n the qualificatin being undertaken. THE DIFFERENCE: Traineeships are generally 1-2 years in duratin and may apply t blue, green and white cllar rles. Apprenticeships are 3-4 years in duratin and generally apply t traditinal trades. WHAT IS A GROUP TRAINING ORGANISATION (GTO)? GROUP TRAINING ORGANISATION (GTO) Grup Training is an emplyment and training arrangement whereby an rganisatin (SKILLED) emplys apprentices and trainees under an apprenticeship r traineeship training cntract and places them with Hst Emplyers (ur clients) fr the duratin f the apprenticeship r traineeship. SKILLED is a natinally Registered Grup Training Organisatin (GTO). As a GTO, we manage the apprenticeship and traineeship prcess end-t-end, which includes: Attractin, Screening, Recruitment and Emplyment, including basic Pre-emplyment Medical and Aptitude Testing specifically designed fr Apprentices and Trainees Cmprehensive Inductin prir t cmmencing in the Wrkplace Pastral Care and Supprt, including nging caching and mentring frm a dedicated Apprenticeship/Traineeship Field Officer Payrll, Superannuatin and Wrk cver Perfrmance Management Issue Reslutin Training and Training Prviders Administrative Paperwrk assciated with the Australian Apprenticeship Scheme including Training Cntracts and Cmmnwealth Incentive Claim Frms Gvernment rebates if eligible in accrdance with the standards set ut by the VET Quality Framewrk and assciated legislatin. 4 IS THERE FUNDING AVAILABLE? Once yu ve engaged us, a dedicated Field Officer will identify the mst apprpriate qualificatin fr the tasks that will be carried ut n yur site, including the selectin f a suitable training prvider t minimise yur csts. In sme cases, funding may als be available fr the emplyment f Indigenus and Trres Strait Islander peple thrugh ur preferred service prvider agreement with the Department f the Prime Minister and Cabinet s Indigenus Emplyment Prgram (IEP). If funding is available, it will be passed n by SKILLED t yu, the hst emplyer, thrugh a rebated charge rate. Funding is available t eligible apprentices and trainees. This is determined at the time f the signing f the Training Cntract. The Australian Apprenticeship Centre advises SKILLED f eligibility. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO IF I WANT TO EMPLOY AN APPRENTICE OR TRAINEE? Talk t us! As a Grup Training Organisatin, we take care f the entire prcess fr yu (see page 1 fr details abut what we cver).hosting AGREEMENTS When emplying an apprentice r trainee, yu will be required t sign a Hsting Agreement prir t the Apprentice r Trainee cmmencement. The Hsting Agreement utlines respnsibilities f the Hst Emplyer (ur clients) and requirements under the Apprenticeship & Traineeship Act in the States and Territry. SKILLED TECHNICAL TRADES FOUNDATION The SKILLED Technical Trades Fundatin aims t supprt and encurage apprentices and trainees by prviding financial assistance and mentring t help them cmplete their technical qualificatins. T date, the SKILLED Technical Trades Fundatin has awarded ver $280,000 t mre than 120 apprentices and trainees acrss a range f trade specialisatins. These grants have helped recipients purchase tls, meet jbrelated expenses and btain extra-curricular tutring. Awards are available in three categries: Technical Training Opprtunity Awards available t thse wh wuld like t start an apprenticeship r traineeship but wuld have difficulty in ding s fr any number f reasns such as the need t travel lng distances, having t relcate r nt having the resurces t supprt them during training. Encuragement Awards available t thse wh have cmmenced technical training but are experiencing difficulty in cmpleting it. Excellence Awards available t thse wh have cmpleted technical training but wh culd benefit frm further training. Page 3
