The MNCHRC is administered by the (MNCLHD) which is cmmitted t supprting staff in their research endeavurs fr prfessinal and persnal develpment and t benefit the healthcare service and lcal cmmunity. Whilst research degrees d nt currently attract tuitin fees (as at July 2015), there are a number f ther csts that may be assciated with these studies. 3 Purpse The purpse f this dcument is t utline a package that will define the eligibility, criteria and administratin f a Research Supprt Funding Prgram ffered by the MNCLHD t emplyees. The gals f the MNCHRC Higher Degree Research Supprt Prgram are t: T prvide emplyees f the MNCLHD wh are undertaking Higher Research Degrees with the means t enhance their pstgraduate research experience T gain firsthand experience f the grant writing prcess Key Dates Applicatins Open Applicatins Clse Ntified Final Receipts Accepted 24 th August 7 th September 21 st September 31 st March MNCHRC Research Pririties Applicants will be asked t reprt hw their research addresses the Research Pririties f the MNCHRC. 4 Eligibility The fllwing criteria must be satisfied t be eligible t apply: 1. Current MNCLHD emplyee a. Full time r part time b. Permanent r Temprary Fr Temprary emplyees, the emplyment cntract must be current at the end f the funding perid c. Must nt be in receipt f a Research Supprt Grant within the current financial year d. Applicatins will nt be cnsidered if the applicant was nt an emplyee f the MNCLHD at the time the expense was incurred. 2. Currently enrlled in a Higher Degree Research (HDR) at an Australian University and able t prvide evidence f enrlment. a. HDRs include: Masters by Research, Master f Philsphy r Dctrate (PhD) prgram b. Applicatins will nt be cnsidered if the emplyee has nt demnstrated satisfactry prgress and/r have exceeded the nrmal perid f candidature 1 c. Supprt by the applicant s supervisr/s 3. Applicants can nly be awarded a maximum f three (3) successful Research Supprt Grants (t a maximum f $4,500) during their degree candidature. 4. The research questin shuld address the MNCHRC Research Pririties Use f Funds Funding applicatins may include, but are nt limited t: 1. Cnference expenses Fr the purpse f presenting a paper r pster f which the emplyee is the authr and in in cnnectin with his/her research. Cnference attendance withut presenting, r presentatin f a paper r pster f which the student is nt the authr is nt eligible. Expenses eligible t be claimed include: registratin fees, travel and accmmdatin. Official cnfirmatin f the acceptance f the candidate s paper/pster, r an invitatin t the candidate t present at a cnference shuld be included with the applicatin. Expenses in cnnectin with a visit t specialist facilities, r t learn specialist technique/s directly related t the emplyee s research, but are beynd thse nrmally prvided by the University 2 r the MNCLHD. 3. Human Research Ethics submissin and review fees 4. Purchase f specialist bks, peridicals, sftware that is essential t the emplyees research, but are nt available thrugh the University 2 r MNCLHD. 5. Purchase f cmputers r ther equipment Must be essential t the emplyees research and are abve and beynd the nrmal infrastructure prvided by the University 2 r MNCLHD. 6. Thesis prductin expenses FAQs What is the maximum amunt fr an applicatin? Applicants may apply fr a maximum f $1,500 per grant rund. When des the mney need t be spent? The expenditure must have been incurred r will be incurred during the financial year f the applicatin. Funds will be release upn submissin f applicable invices/receipts. What will nt be supprted? Research csts that are nrmally prvided by the University r MNCLHD are nt supprted. Fr example: In cases where the university ffers a laptp/cmputer fr HDR students, emplyees may nt apply fr funding fr these items. Labratry investigatins frming an integral part f the research prject Educatin and training nrmally ffered by the university r MNCLHD as part f the HDR prgram Hw ften can an emplyee apply fr supprt? Each eligible emplyee can ldge nly ne applicatin in any rund during a financial year. Hw are the funds paid fr successful applicants? 6 What if my request fr funding item is nt listed? Cntact the MNC Research Office r / Where can I get further infrmatin? Cntact the MNC Research Office (MNCResearch@ncahs.health.nsw.gv.au) r / Hw d I submit the applicatin? Submit an electrnic cpy (signed and scanned) f the applicatin frm nly t the MNC Research Office (MNCResearch@ncahs.health.nsw.gv.au) Administratin The fllwing frms will be distributed t successful applicants: Ntificatin and Acceptance f Award Applicants will be frmally ntified f the utcme f their submissin by (supplied in the applicatin) sent by the MNC Research Office. Successful applicants will receive a Letter f Offer detailing their award, a Research Supprt Acceptance Frm (RSAF) and a Transfer f Funds Frm (TFF) fr cmpletin. The RSAF and TFF must be cmpleted, signed and returned t the MNC Research ffice at which time the funds will becme available. Payment f Funds It is the respnsibility f RSP recipients t check the implicatins fr incme tax liability r Centrelink payments f accepting a grant. Payment f funds is upn submissin f an invice fr the expenditure cmmitted directly t the emplyee via electrnic funds transfer (EFT) thrugh the Oracle financial system. Carry Frward Request If an extensin f time beynd the timeframe fr expenditure f the funds is required the grant hlder must apply t the Research Grant Cmmittee fr apprval using the apprpriate frm (Carry Frward Request Frm). A detailed justificatin must be given n the frm. Variatin f Expenditure Request Funds granted may nt be spent fr purpses ther than thse detailed in the riginal applicatin budget unless the permissin f the Research Grant Cmmittee has been btained using the apprpriate frm (Variatin f Expenditure Request Frm).
