B. Offer a flexible number f meetings, such as in the mrning r in the evening. Funds may be used t prvide transprtatin, child care, r hme visits, as the services relate t parent invlvement. -Title I meetings are flexible and meet at least twice annually. C. Invlve parents in an rganized, nging, and timely way, in the planning, review, and imprvement f Title I prgrams, including the planning, review, and imprvement f the schl parental invlvement plicy and the jint develpment f the schl wide plan. 13 Lakeside Public Schls PARENTAL/COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT - DISTRICT The Lakeside Schl District understands the imprtance f invlving parents and the cmmunity as a whle in prmting higher student achievement and general gd will between the district and thse it serves. Therefre, the district shall strive t develp and maintain the capacity fr meaningful and prductive parental and cmmunity invlvement that will result in partnerships that are mutually beneficial t the schl, students, parents, and the cmmunity. T achieve such ends, the district shall wrk t 1. Invlve parents and the cmmunity in the develpment f the lng range planning f the district; 2. Have a crdinated invlvement prgram run by Bruce Orr where the invlvement activities f the district enhance the invlvement strategies f ther cmmunity grups. 3. Give the schls in the district the supprt necessary t enable them t plan and implement effective parental invlvement activities thrugh their parental invlvement crdinatrs, Tanna Clark and Susan Harris. These individuals wrk with their staff and Mr. Orr t develp ACSIP parent engagement grups at their schl and implement every part f the district plan in their buildings which include but is nt limited t everything listed belw; 4. Explain t parents and the cmmunity the State s cntent and achievement standards, State and lcal student assessments and hw the district s curriculum is aligned with the assessments and hw parents can wrk with the district t imprve their child s academic achievement; 5. Prvide parents with the materials and training they need t be better able t help their child achieve. The district may use parent resurce centers r ther cmmunity based rganizatins t fster parental invlvement and prvide literacy and technlgy training t parents. 6. Educate district staff, with the assistance f parents, in ways t wrk and cmmunicate with parents and t knw hw t implement parent invlvement prgrams that will prmte psitive partnerships between the schl and parents; 7. Keep parents infrmed abut parental invlvement prgrams, meetings, and ther activities they culd be invlved in thrugh newsletters, internet websites, phne calls and text messages. Include lcal and natinal educatin gals including parents rights as defined in Title I, Part A, such as their right t knw abut the qualificatins f all staff at their child s schl. Such cmmunicatin shall be, t the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand; 8. Find ways t eliminate barriers that wrk t keep parents frm being invlved in their child s educatin. This may include prviding transprtatin and child care t enable parents t participate, arranging meetings at a variety f times, and being creative with parent/teacher cnferences;

14 9. Find and mdify ther successful parent and cmmunity invlvement prgrams t suit the needs f ur district; 10. Prvide reasnable supprt fr ther parental invlvement activities as parents may reasnably request; cnduct annual surveys t ensure that parents needs are met and schl effectiveness is imprved. T ensure the cntinued imprvement f the district s parental/cmmunity invlvement prgram, the district will cnduct an annual survey and review each spring f its parental invlvement plicies t examine their affect n prmting higher student achievement t update the plicy fr next year. The review f the plicies and the budget shall be dne by the district s ACSIP parental invlvement cmmittee cnsisting f parents and ther cmmunity members, certified and classified staff, and member(s) f the administratin. The members fr the schl year are the fllwing: DISTRICT MEMBERS: Superintendent Shawn Ck; Schl Bard member Tyler Tapp; Directr Federal Prgrams Bruce Orr; Directr f Supprt Services Dn Pierce; District Technlgy Crdinatr Melinda Ddd; Directr Special Services, Curtney Eubanks; LIS assistant Principal Nicki Landry; High Schl Parental Invlvement Crdinatr Susan Harris; Title I Parental Invlvement crdinatr Tanna Clark; and tw parents frm each schl, The principals will recruit these parents each year t serve n rtating tw year terms. The cmmittee meets the final Thursday f each mnth. On Thursday, April 24, Bruce Orr will lead the grup t begin the annual review. Data will be examined and best practices explred in rder t determine effectiveness. Please cntact Bruce with questins. This plicy shall be part f the schl s Title I plan and shall be distributed t parents f the district s students at the annual Title I meetings held each fall at each Title I schl and prvided, t the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand. The district and each schl will explain the 1% set-aside and hw the parent cmmittee has set its budget fr the current schl year. The district and schl ACSIP plan is reviewed at the same meeting. Bruce Orr meets regularly with the schl crdinatrs and visits the sites t bserve the practices. He is als respnsible fr assisting the principals in planning the annual 2 hurs f required parent invlvement prfessinal develpment. This training will enhance the awareness and skills f teachers, pupil service persnnel, principals, and staff in reaching ut t cmmunicating with and wrking with parents as equal partners. Each Title I schl has a current Parental Invlvement plan which is mnitred by Mr. Orr, directr f Federal Prgrams. Each schl disseminates this plan at the annual Title I meeting held each fall. Thse parents wh d nt attend are mailed the plan. In rder t meet the parents varius schedules, each schl varies the days and times their mnthly parent invlvement meetings are held in rder t try t make everyne welcme. These meeting are held in rder t prvide infrmatin t the parents thrugh the parent infrmatin guide, and t develp and review the Schl-Parent cmpact. Each semester, each schl hlds a family literacy night and a family mathematics night. These events invlve the parents in the standards, technlgy and instructin in rder t help the parents raise their child s achievement.
