FCCLA is a yuth led rganizatin, but requires the assistance f adults. The advisr can truly make FCCLA g and grw. It is the: Attitude Dedicatin Visin Initiative Supprt Optimism Rapprt that builds chapters and prvides pprtunities fr students. ADVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Make FCCLA an integral part f yur class. 2. Be familiar with the rganizatin. 3. Assist in frwarding necessary infrmatin t the state and natinal assciatins. 4. Prvide leadership training. 5. Help rganize and schedule meetings 6. Assist fficers in perfrming their duties. 7. Help plan the prgram f wrk and ther necessary infrmatin (such as evaluatin) 8. Make state and natinal infrmatin available t members. WORKING WITH STUDENTS 1. Lcate and uncver special interests, talents, and abilities f chapter members. 2. Explain the expectatins f students as leaders. 3. Prvide infrmatin needed fr them t carry ut their respnsibilities. 4. Be creative. 5. Prvide mtivatin and supprt. 6. Express thanks and appreciatin - encurage students t d the same 7. Prvide learning pprtunities in FCCLA t prepare students t be better leaders and wrkers. 8. Express the imprtance f evaluating leadership pprtunities and experiences. REMEMBER... Yur students will never be mre excited than yu are abut FCCLA and yur enthusiasm will becme infectius. Grwth f membership will cme. If yu start with a few students, expse them t the pssibilities that are available thrugh FCCLA, their excitement will grw the chapter. Remember success breeds success. Walk yur members thrugh each step f the FCCLA Planning Prcess as they develp activity r prject, but t let the them carry the respnsibility. Yu are the ADVISOR and FCCLA is a STUDENT led rganizatin.

2 KEEPING YOUR SANITY REMEMBER- - - AVAILABLE RESOURCES Start small with things yu are cmfrtable ding and that will spark enthusiasm in yur students, like taking them t a leadership wrkshp and encuraging them t cmpete in Family and Cnsumer Sciences Assessments (FCSA). Next, take a few underclassman members t a regin and/r state meeting and have them vlunteer as a student assistant fr the STAR Event cmpetitin and yu can vlunteer t c-chair an event. The members will gain an understanding f the wnderful pprtunities that are available thrugh FCCLA and will be excited t jump in next year. Remember t build a psitive relatinship with the schl administratin. Public relatins is the MOST IMPORTANT ingredient t establishing a successful chapter. Nt all administratrs have been infrmed abut the changes in the FCCLA rganizatin. Invite them t functins, invlve them in judging r planning activities, send thank yu letters, etc. Make them feel as thugh they have a significant rle in the rganizatin because THEY DO! Set reachable gals. Rme was nt built in a day. Neither were strng FCCLA chapters. Baby steps will eventually get yu where yu are ging. Take n nly as much as yu feel cmfrtable ding; the rest will cme with time. Remember, inch by inch, it s a cinch; yard by yard, it s hard. Utilize resurces. If yu have parents, administratrs, ther teachers, r cmmunity members wh want t help, let them. Our rganizatin is abut cmmunity invlvement. It is fine t delegate r ask fr help!
