Research indicates that after-schl prgrams can markedly increase engagement in learning, imprve academic achievement, narrw the achievement gap, and reduce behaviral issues. The after-schl envirnment allws yuth t interact amng themselves and with adults in a mre relaxed atmsphere. Research shws that yuth with the pprtunity t build psitive peer and adult relatinships have better schl and cmmunity cnnectedness, higher self-cnfidence, increased scial cmpetence, and less substance abuse and behaviral issues including gang invlvement.
