2 TEACHER AIDE JOB DESCRIPTION NAME: POSITION: EMPLOYER: RESPONSIBLE TO: Teacher Aide ORS Special Needs Haumana Schl Bard f Trustees The Class Teacher/0.1 Teacher/The Principal KEY TASKS: 1. Assist with the specific health, medical and safety needs f student as required: a. tilet, shwer and change student b. mnitr changes in specific cnditins and reprt apprpriately c. supervise taking f any medicatin as dcumented in care plan d. supervise feeding f student e. supervise student during break times f. cmmunicatin regularly with class teacher and parent 2. Assist with the educatin f student with special needs 3. Have input int develpment f IEPs attendance is cmpulsry 4. Wrk with individual students and with small grups t meet the academic, behaviural and scial bjectives f IEP as directed by the teacher 5. In cnsultatin with teachers, facilitate instructin f student 6. Assist teacher/s t implement behaviur mdificatin prgrammes as required 7. Mnitr prgress t assist in the evaluatin f IEP 8. Where required, participate in schl activities e.g. sprts activities, living skills prgramme, 9. Assist in classrm and in the preparatin f equipment as directed by the teacher 10. 3 HAUMOANA SCHOOL TEACHER AIDE EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT 2015 The Bard appints xxxxxxxxxxxx t the Fixed Term psitin f Teacher Aide. Please nte that this appintment is linked t the enrlment f xxxxxxxx and will be renewed at the end f each the year when xxxxxxxx hurs and cntinued enrlment are cnfirmed. The purpse f this psitin is t supprt and assist the class teacher in best delivering the curriculum t help an ORS funded student learn.. The term f the appintment is frm the perid frm xxxxxxxx 2015 until 16 th December 2015 r such earlier date as determined by the Bard shuld this psitin cease due t transfer f the student. The terms and cnditins f this cntract are thse terms and cnditins f the Supprt Staff in Schls Cllective Emplyment Cntract. The cmmencing rate f pay is xxxxxx r as defined by yur award rate. The hurs f wrk shall be xxxxxxxxxxxxx. but these hurs may change during the perid f the year accrding t need. The CEC requires that all temprary psitin be clearly defined as such (regardless f the funding prvider): a) Clause (d) The duratin and purpse f temprary appintment is t be ntifed t the emplyee. b) Clause The purpse and duratin f temprary emplyment is t be defined in writing at the time f engagement. c) Clause Emplyees are t be ntified at the cmmencement f emplyment f the basis f emplyment. This means the tenure r term f cntract and if relevant, the fact that the psitin is funded by a discretinary allcatin and may be terminated by ntice. 4 HAUMOANA SCHOOL GUIDELINES FOR TEACHER AIDES Yu need t meet with the classrm teacher/s, (r Principal (ORS SENCO) and 0.1 teacher) t discuss yur prgramme and find ut yur respnsibilities and duties. 1. Punctuality Make sure that yu knw the hurs that yu shuld be wrking in yur classrm/s. It is imprtant that yu arrive at yur classrm n time. 2. Supprt fr Pupils Yur main respnsibility is t supprt the teacher and child/children as directed by the teacher. Be encuraging, psitive but firm. Yu may be given specific tasks t wrk n. Make sure that yu understand what the teacher requires yu t d. Prvide encuragement, directin and supprt but d nt d the wrk fr the child/ children. 3. Cntact with pupils Yu shuld avid wrking in a situatin where yu are alne with a child. Yu are nt allwed t reprimand pupils physically. 4. Privacy Yu may be wrking with children frm families that yu have ut f schl cntact with. Yu shuld nt discuss any issues with these families, relating t any pupils in yur classrm, if yu have nt discussed these issues with the teacher. Respect cnfidentiality. 5. Upskilling yurself Yu will be given the pprtunity t learn new skills t help yu. Curses are available t assist yu with reading strategies, literacy strategies and in ther curriculum areas. 6. Lk fr Opprtunities If yu find yu have a quiet time in the classrm lk fr ther things t d. Tidying the library, srting ut resurces, checking art / craft resurces, etc. (Discuss these ptins with the class teacher). Yur first pririty shuld be t fulfil the list f duties prvided by the SENCO r class teacher. The class teacher, 0.1 teacher r SENCO will talk with yu and finalise the actual duties and respnsibilities that yu are required t d. The teacher/s may need t arrange a special time t meet with yu t discuss changes t the prgramme. It is ften t difficult t discuss these things during class time. Where pssible this time will be arranged during the hurs f wrk.
