1 POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title Chief Technology Officer Business Unit Technology Reports to Chief Executive Officer Position Type 1.0 Fulltime, Permanent Location Wellington or Auckland, NZ Date December 2016 New Zealand Rugby Overview The vision for New Zealand Rugby is to Inspire and Unify New Zealanders. New Zealand Rugby employs more than one hundred staff who are based in its Wellington head office, Auckland or in a variety of rugby roles throughout New Zealand. Responsibilities include management of our national teams (including the All Blacks), administration of our national competitions, and participation in international competitions including Test matches, as well as assisting community rugby throughout the country. The organisation has direct relationships with its members, including all 26 Provincial Unions, Investec Super Rugby Teams, Commercial and other partners and stakeholders such as the New Zealand Government. New Zealand Rugby is one of New Zealand s largest sports organisations, with a team of employees committed to ensuring that our national game is run smoothly and effectively at all levels, all over New Zealand. Purpose The Chief Technology Officer is responsible for the delivery of all technology solutions to meet the needs of NZ Rugby and all associated stakeholders. The role has a future focus, responsible for NZ Rugby s digital strategy and leading the provision of services in relation to NZ Rugby s Technology Strategy. Key Accountabilities Strategic Direction and Leadership As a member of the Executive team: Contribute to the development and execution of New Zealand Rugby s annual plans, budget, and strategic direction Act as the key technology advisor providing quality advice to the business Lead own areas of responsibility and provide expert advice all technology matters to the CEO, Board and the business New Zealand Rugby Union PO Box 2172, Wellington 6140 allblacks.com nzrugby.co.nz facebook.com/allblacks Principal Partner of New Zealand Rugby

2 Lead or participate in projects requiring significant and/or complex technology expertise Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, external parties and other networks as required Display outstanding leadership and decision making qualities in managing and promoting New Zealand Rugby Contribute as a member of the Executive Team to achieve the overall New Zealand Rugby business priorities in a manner consistent with the organisations values Act as a New Zealand Rugby representative as required People Leadership Provide clear and supportive leadership to enable the Technology team to achieve their agreed KPIs and contribute to the direction of New Zealand Rugby to their full potential Provide management and direction for the Technology team in the development of business and operational plans Contribute to the development of a culture of innovation, achievement and commitment to business outcomes Ensure People & Capability strategies and initiatives are supported within own area of responsibility and the wider business in regards to management and leadership of all NZ Rugby employees. Ensure appropriate employees are employed and retained and that training and development initiatives are introduced for all employees which are relevant to improving performance and efficiency Information Technology Strategy Leadership and direction of the technology strategy review process Ensures NZR s IT infrastructure and applications meet current and future business and operational requirements Identifies opportunities to improve and enhance business processes to support change, and oversees process improvement projects involving technology Monitors international technology trends that impact the operation of the business Information Technology Management Leadership of the business consultancy and engagement model Oversees the management of all technology projects and ensures they are delivered according to time, cost and quality standards Oversees all technology related procurement, including the development and evaluation of business cases, RFP s, contract negotiations, vendor performance and cost management Oversees the operational management of NZR s applications, websites and IT infrastructure, including change controls, business continuity and disaster recovery planning and security management Lead advisory to the Board, CEO and Executive team on all technology matters Financial Management Ensures NZR s technology expenditure is focussed and prioritised Develops budgets based on NZR s strategic priorities and agreed work programmes Digital Strategic oversight and ownership of NZR s Digital Strategy and direction, including: Development, communication, and maintenance of the strategy

3 Leading the delivery of NZ Rugby s digital and technology transformation programme of work Ensuring the programme meets the needs of all of NZ Rugby s stakeholders and making sure outcomes align to the NZ Rugby Vision and the needs of the key stakeholders Health & Safety (for self) Takes personal responsibility for keeping self free from harm Follows safe working procedures Reports incidents promptly Reports hazards promptly and suggests appropriate remedies Knows what to do in the event of an emergency Co-operates in implementing a rehabilitation plan Health & Safety (for the team) Ensure Corporate Services team are informed of Health and Safety requirements in the workplace, and are adequately trained to carry out their work safely Ensures the prompt and accurate reporting, recording and investigation of all workplace incidents and injuries Ensures all hazards are promptly assessed for their significance, and managed Other Other tasks as required to meet team or organisation objective Key Relationships This position reports to: Chief Executive Officer Other areas/people that report to this position s immediate manager: This job s direct reports are: Head of ICT External Relationships SANZAAR (and associated unions) Service Providers and Suppliers All Blacks Manager Business & Operations Chief Strategy & Operations Officer Chief Financial Officer GM Rugby Chief Commercial Officer GM Communications EA to CEO Internal Relationships New Zealand Rugby Board CEO and Executive Team Senior Leadership Team New Zealand Rugby employees Super Rugby entities Provincial Unions

4 Person Specification Qualifications Tertiary degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience Relevant industry and technical certifications and qualifications Experience Leadership: Proven experience and success at a senior management level with years experience 10 years plus of private sector corporate service experience in a large organisation Technical: Strong proven experience of working on digital transformation and organisational change projects, as well as delivering digital innovation projects using a range of technology platforms and vendor products that are the best fit for purpose. Ability to lead and drive organisation change and help achieve a step change in the client s business through the use of digital across all touchpoints in the customer journey Competencies and Attributes The competencies below are to be used in conjunction with the NZR Development Toolkit See People & Capability if you have any questions or need guidance.
