1 A Department: Children & Young People s Service Job Title: Duke of Edinburgh s Award Development Worker (0.5) Grade: 10 Post Number: NYS 109 Service/Section: Base/Location: Responsible To: Responsible For: Liaison With: Job Purpose: Youth Service Beaumanor Hall Youth Service Officer The safe and smooth running of the Duke of Edinburgh award ensuring operating authority status is maintained and that staff and young people receive appropriate support All Youth Work staff and volunteers Young people, parents and carers Awarding Bodies Principals, Headteachers and College and School Governing Bodies Local providers, agencies and voluntary organisations Connexions To take day to day responsibility for the development and delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh s Award Specific Duties and Responsibilities: 1. The promotion and development of the Duke of Edinburgh s Award to Youth Service staff, voluntary groups and schools in Leicestershire and the County of Rutland. 2. To oversee the joint arrangement with the County of Rutland. 3. Day to day guidance of the allocated Administrator and for securing appropriate line management arrangements in Open Award Centres. 4. To provide guidance to youth work staff on resource materials and the mechanisms in place to support the development and use of D of E. 5. To promote and publicise the use of award schemes such as the Leicestershire Local Award and D of E as tools for recognising and accrediting young peoples learning. 2 6. To produce an annual report on the contribution made to the five Every Child Matters outcomes. 7. To produce and distribute three termly Local Award newsletters per annum. 8. Work along side Locality Youth Workers and part-time staff to provide support to young people involved in D of E and other accredited programmes including the facilitation of presentation events. 9. In collaboration with LCC Officers and staff and the Leicestershire Expedition Panel, contribute to the delivery of a training strategy that equips workers and volunteers with necessary skills, resources and knowledge needed to assist the development of accredited youth work across the county including D of E expedition work. 10. Liaise with the D of E Regional Office to ensure Operating Authority status is maintained. 11. Ensuring that policy and practice take proper account of all Leicestershire County Council policies and the national requirements of the accrediting bodies. 12. Any such other duties as are relevant and appropriate to the responsibilities of the post, as agreed with the line manager. 13. To ensure their own personal and professional development through appropriate participation in job related learning opportunities and supervision programmes. And in addition: i. To comply with relevant County Council policies and procedures. ii. iii. To do all that is reasonably practicable to maintain a safe and healthy work environment, having regard to appropriate risk assessments and ensuring compliance with County Council and statutory requirements. To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by the County Council. SPECIAL FACTORS: Subject to the duration of the need, the special conditions given below apply: (a) (b) (c) The nature of the work may involve the postholder carrying out work outside of normal working hours. The postholder will be required to attend, from time to time, training courses, conferences, seminars or other meetings as required by his/her own training needs and the needs of the service. This post is subject to a check being carried out at an enhanced level by the Criminal Records Bureau regarding any previous criminal record. 2 of 6
