1 Senior Leadership Team and Class Teacher Job Description & Person Specification SCHOOL Queen Eleanor s C of E Junior School TITLE Senior Leadership Team & Class Teacher JOB PURPOSE As part of the Leadership Team to develop the school s vision and policy, to make strategic evaluations of learning and teaching and to lead and manage staff towards achieving the school s goals. To take responsibility for a core curriculum subject (to be negotiated) in order to provide effective teaching and learning for pupils. The post holder is required to carry out duties of a school teacher as set out in the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES A. STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT To take on specific tasks related to the day to day administration and organisation of the school as requested by the Headteacher and assume responsibility of the school in the absence of the Headteacher and Deputy at the same time. To lead a core subject to ensure breadth and balance of the curriculum across the school and assist the Head and Deputy in the promotion of the positive school ethos and vision To contribute to the discussion of the school s aims and policies and participate in the implementation of policies, plans, targets and practices. B. TEACHING AND LEARNING To act as Reviewer in the Performance Management process for staff in the team and secure and sustain effective teaching of the relevant subject for individuals, groups and classes. Develop the quality of teaching, assess the standards of pupils achievements and set targets for improvement. 1

LEADING AND MANAGING STAFF To assist in the professional development of all staff identifying their key professional development needs and ensuring that these are addressed through quality CPD provision, including coaching and mentoring. To lead, manage and work collaboratively with staff, pupils and, as appropriate, with other adults and colleagues. D. EFFICIENT DEPLOYMENT OF STAFF AND RESOURCES To develop, monitor and control resources within the teaching area. To help ensure the most effective deployment of teaching staff within the school. ACCOUNTABLE TO ACCOUNTABLE FOR Headteacher, Chair of Governors and parents and carers of the school. Teachers, Teaching Assistants and support staff and pastoral and academic support of children. SLT Member & Class teacher The Key Tasks are listed under each accountability heading. The same Key Accountability headings have been used as they appear in the National Standards for Head teachers and Subject Leaders. General responsibilities of the role: To carry out the professional duties of a class teacher as required. To have a thorough working knowledge of the school s policies and guidance, and make explicit the aims, values and vision of the school, ensuring that they are reflected in all areas of school life. To make a positive contribution towards raising academic standards for all children. To make a positive contribution towards developing the quality of teaching and learning across the school. To work alongside other staff to promote excellent behaviour and a positive ethos within the school. To undertake any additional duties and tasks under the reasonable direction of the Headteacher. A. Strategic Direction and Development To contribute to the discussion of the school s aims and policies and participate in the implementation of policies, plans, targets and practices. Key Tasks A1 Contribute to the writing / review of general teaching and learning policies such as the Teaching and Learning and Positive Behaviour Policies. 2

3 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 A7 A8 A9 A10 A11 A12 Assist the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Lead Learning Team and Governors in School Self Evaluation and the creation and implementation of the Strategic Development Plan. (SDP) Support staff in achieving the priorities and targets of the SDP and monitor progress on those relating to the assigned phase/curriculum areas. To facilitate the highest standards of teaching and learning across a range of subjects. To keep children s academic standards and progress high on the agenda of all class teachers, support staff, parents and children. To monitor children s achievement across the phase/curriculum area and analyse performance data regularly report to the Headteacher on progress and standards within their school phase. To provide and present a termly written report to the Headteacher and governors on progress and standards within their core subject as part of a programme of curriculum monitoring. To monitor standards of teaching and learning and assist colleagues in developing their teaching, pupil management and wider professional skills giving feedback benchmarked against the TDA professional standards for teachers. To promote the school s culture of teamwork and commitment to professional development. To support the performance management process as required and use the process to develop personal and professional effectiveness. To facilitate curriculum development in accordance with relevant action plans and through liaison with relevant subject leaders. To plan and assess pupil s learning using knowledge of school policies, schemes of work and National Curriculum requirements for the relevant curriculum areas. B. Teaching and Learning To secure and sustain effective teaching of the relevant subjects for individuals, groups and classes. Develop the quality of teaching, assess the standards of pupil s achievements and set targets for improvement. 4 B3 B4 B5 B6 B7 B8 B9 B10 B11 B12 Ensuring the successful implementation of the new curriculum, ensuring it is creative, thematic, experiential, stimulating, progressive and supports the clear development of skill based, investigative learning Working with the Deputy, SLT & SENCo to monitor the progress of children through work sampling, tracking data and reviewing quality of planning and how it caters for children s needs Providing advice and support to the staff in relation to securing academic progress and improving the quality of learning and teaching Discussing outcomes of monitoring, devising appropriate actions and sharing those, as needed, with subject coordinators, SENCO and the Senior Leadership Team Ensuring children have individual targets and advising on target setting across the school and within individual year groups Ensuring progression as children move through the school Ensuring the environment is safe, well organised and stimulating and that displays are of a high standard and reflective of the thematic, experiential curriculum Collating and analysing data and performance indicators and producing ideas to respond to these to share with the Senior Leadership Team Overseeing the day to day management of the year group you work in including low level behaviour issues and staffing issues Ensuring that parents are well informed about the curriculum Key Tasks - Class Teacher B1 use school policy and National Curriculum requirements to set clear targets for improvement of pupils achievement and monitor pupils progress towards those targets. B2 B3 B4 B5 use appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate clear learning objectives and expectations including, where appropriate in relation to: literacy, numeracy and other school target recognise the level that a pupil is achieving and make accurate assessments, independently, against attainment targets, where applicable, and performance levels associated with other tests or qualifications relevant to the subject(s) or phase(s) taught; plan effectively to ensure that pupils have the opportunity to meet their potential, notwithstanding differences of race and gender, and taking account of the needs of pupils who are: underachieving, very able, not yet fluent in English; making use of relevant information and specialist help where available; plan effectively, where applicable, to meet the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and, in collaboration with the SENCO, make an appropriate contribution to the preparation, implementation, monitoring and review of Individual Education Plans; 4
