1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: EAUC Membership Services Manager Salary Grade: Grade 6 24,273-28,983 Reference Number: School/Department: Base Location: S817 Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC) EAUC Head Office, University of Gloucestershire, The Park Campus, Cheltenham Hours per week: 37 Weeks per annum: 52 Special Conditions: Line Manager: General: Some flexible working may be required from time to time. The post holder may be based at any premises the EAUC occupies and may be required to work at any site or any other reasonable location where the EAUC is undertaking its business. Some UK travel will be required. EAUC Head of Membership Services This key role will see you lead and drive the organisation as the Member Champion. You will provide the links for internal and external activities as well as engaging Members to make the most of their Membership and the services EAUC offer. This includes engagement with the Member Council, Communities of Practice and regional groups. You will be the main contact for Company and Educational Members and to be the link between Members. The appointee will work closely with the rest of the Membership Services Team and will have line management responsibilities for the Membership Team (currently a full time Membership Services Officer and a part time News Coordinator). With strong written and verbal skills you will be an effective negotiator with good prior membership experience. The Membership Services Manager is perfectly positioned to support our ambitious growth strategy and provides the income, network and profile to help us achieve our wider aims. The Membership Services Manager will report and be accountable to the Head of Membership Services and will deliver and contribute to wider Association activities and targets. The EAUC is an independent registered charitable company based at the University of Gloucestershire whom undertake our HR/Payroll functions. You will be employed via the University of Gloucestershire but work solely for the EAUC. The Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges is the leading sustainable development organisation for further and higher education in the UK. We are a member lead organisation with approximately 400 university and college members as well as company members. Established 15 years ago, originally as a volunteer run organisation, we are now a charitable company. With sustainability rising up the government, funding council and sector agenda, EAUC members have endorsed an ambitious Strategic Plan which will significantly increase Association products, services and professionalism. This new role will be key to delivering the Strategic Plan. Page 1 of 5

2 The role of the EAUC is to support and meet the needs of our members. We run training events, an annual conference, produce newsletters and manage an active discussion network. Increasingly we have established externally funded projects with partner agencies and support and work with many partners on their projects. With an expanding membership both in numbers and diversity of disciplines, the EAUC is committed to improving its services and products and finding find new ways to inform, guide, train and support these professionals. In addition it will work with sector strategic partners to push sustainable development higher up the Further and Higher Education agenda. Contacts: Internal Chief Executive Head of Programmes & Team Head of Membership Services & Team EAUC Trustees Project Managers, Consultants and other service providers EAUC Members and Strategic Partners External: External Contractors and Companies Funding Bodies Government Agencies and Strategic Partners Sponsors MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary Functions: Membership Retention: Develop and implement member relationship management strategy agreed with the Head of Member Services Monitor member satisfaction and build action plans based on member feedback Work closely with the Senior Management Team to ensure members are fully engaged with the EAUC Develop and implement, with the help of the Membership Services Officer, the membership renewal process To be responsible for the maintenance and development of an accurate membership records and marketing databases with the help of the team To be the key contact for members - Looking after existing members, resolving issues and improving members perception of the EAUC Research, organise and develop the membership events programme, including the annual conference Assist other EAUC departments in maximising retention and recruitment opportunities through their activities Research and implement new methods of membership retention as appropriate Develop and implement an exit strategy for lapsed and non-renewal members Manage the development, production and evaluation of member products and services, such as newsletters and our website Develop new member benefits, products and services based on member feedback To manage, monitor and review the content and quality of all member related communications with current and lapsed members (e.g. letters, newsletters, e-bulletins and brochures) Promote the importance of membership at all opportunities, particularly when members are considering renewal of their membership Membership Recruitment: Develop and agree the recruitment strategy with the Head of Membership Services Identify new members to target within the skills, further and higher education sector Produce and distribute appropriate marketing materials to support and enhance the recruitment of new members Page 2 of 5

3 Research and implement new recruitment methods as appropriate to the EAUC s needs Attend as required; shows, events and activities throughout the UK with the principal aim of recruiting new members. Provide support and advice to staff, trustees and members in the recruitment of new members (including provision of training, resources and display materials) Management: Manage departmental resources and set action plans and priorities To hold regular departmental progress meetings and circulate progress reports on activity against targets e.g. growth projections, campaign effectiveness, response timescales for membership inquiries, etc. To offer ideas for improvement or change in all operational areas Working with the Head of Membership Services & Fundraising Manager, contribute to business development, income generation and sponsorship schemes To assist in PR activity including the publication of press releases To maintain budgetary control and produce reports as required To line manage the membership services team staff and promote team building To conduct staff appraisals Report and present to the EAUC Board as required Secondary Functions 1. To undertake any other duties and responsibilities, commensurate with the grade of the post as directed by the line manager. These variations will not change the general character of the post or the level of responsibility entailed. 2. To ensure adequate cover for other staff during holidays etc. 3. To attend and report on activities to Trustee meetings as required. 4. The post holder is responsible to the Head of Membership Services for the achievement of agreed targets. Regular review meetings will be held with the Head of Membership Services who will also provide ad hoc advice and support as required. This job description is a guide to the work the post holder will initially be required to undertake. It may be changed from time to time to meet changing circumstances by mutual agreement. It is expected that the job description will be reviewed regularly by the post holder and his/her manager. These discussions will normally take place during the Staff Development Review interview. Experience in the Education sector Experience in the charity sector Knowledge of best practice in management of environment and sustainability matters Good written and oral communication skills IT literate: Familiar with using word processing, databases, spreadsheets and web applications including , e- marketing, surveys, e-discussion groups, etc. Presenting formally and informally to different audiences. Self-motivated, able to work on ones own initiative and liaise effectively with managers and professionals in a wide range of disciplines and levels of seniority. Good organisational ability and time management whilst working concurrently on a large number of different projects.
