1 Job Description - Regional Fundraising Manager Main Purpose of Job The post-holder will lead on the co-ordination and development of fundraising activity and the delivery of a cost effective fundraising strategy across the Region. The role will also be responsible for management of a cross-disciplined team of regionally based staff including Community Fundraising, Corporate Partnerships, Legacy and Recognition Giving and Memory Walk in a matrix capacity. The outcome will be the development of effective relationships with internal and external partners. Each Regional Fundraising Manager will oversee all fundraising activity across the region, including the delivery of centrally led fundraising initiatives in liaison with matrix managers to agree national priorities and targets. This will enable the Society to capitalise on its ambition around Dementia Awareness Week, Memory Walk and Regional Appeals. As a member of the Regional Management Team (RMT) you will be responsible for the delivery of specific local voluntary fundraising income to the benefit of the work of Alzheimer s Society financially and strategically. Position in Organisation Reports to the Head of Regional Fundraising with a matrix line management link to managers in Corporate Partnerships, Legacy & Recognition Giving, Memory Walk and the Operations Director for the region Manages the regional fundraising team within geographic areas of responsibility Holds senior fundraising relationships on behalf of the Society within the Region Liaises at all levels inside the organisation Relates to fundraising volunteers and key stakeholders External facing to the public, supporters and media Dimensions and limits of authority Contributes towards Regional Fundraising income target of approx 10m + Contributes to the overall fundraising directorate target of approx 38.4m (net) through the Regional delivery of local and centrally led initiatives Works with internal departments across the region within criteria agreed by the Head of Regional Fundraising Represents fundraising at the Regional Management Team meetings within authority and criteria agreed by the Head of Regional Fundraising Duties and Key Responsibilities Regional Fundraising Strategy Contributes to the national fundraising strategy and planning process Contributes to the development of the overall regional fundraising strategy
2 Responsible for the development of the fundraising strategy for the region in liaison with matrix managers to maximize fundraising income, reach and volunteer engagement for the Society Supporting and developing local fundraising Working with fundraising volunteers in the region, supporting and developing their fundraising to maximize the net return to the society, and ensure that all fundraising volunteers are supported by their line manager to achieve the same Working with a cross-directorate group to identify opportunities to maximize income which may include regional appeals in liaison with managers across the Fundraising Directorate Assisting with the development of and overseeing the delivery of training workshops for fundraising volunteers and staff relevant to their discipline and in liaison with their matrix manager where applicable Budgeting and planning To develop and monitor an agreed budget and plan ensuring the maximum return on investment is achieved in the region To create annual and five year plans for the growth and delivery of Regional fundraising within the agreed geographical area and in liaison with matrix managers Working with Volunteers Recruiting volunteers to fundraising and non-fundraising forums within the society Engaging volunteers in the work of the society to build long term relationships for the society Lead on the development of local volunteer fundraising forums at area and regional level Integration with other departments at a regional level Effectively representing the Directorate on the Regional Management Team Maintaining effective relationships with all centrally based fundraising departments, liaising closely with matrix managers, and supporting the delivery of national partnerships, maximising the net income available to the Society Providing leads to the centre for Society wide development Line Management Line management of the regional fundraising team and fundraising support officers within the agreed geographical area Take a lead role on any agreed areas of development within regional fundraising as agreed with the Head of Regional Fundraising Manages in a transparent and open way Development of staff in line with the organisation s aspiration to be a learning organisation External Facing Represents the Society in local media as required Speaks on behalf of the Society at events and presentations as required Travel This post will require regular travel across the region, with occasional overnight stays. There will also be travel across the wider Society to represent Regional
3 Fundraising at national team meetings and events on a regular basis. This will require a degree of flexibility involving evening and weekend work for which time off in lieu will be given. To undertake any other duties or projects commensurate with the nature and grade of this post, as required Additional Responsibilities To adhere to all the Society s service standards, policies and procedures. To comply with the data protection regulations, ensuring that information on clients remains confidential. To be responsible for personal learning and development, to support the learning and development of others and the whole organisation. To work in a manner that facilitates inclusion, particularly of people with dementia. To implement the Society s health and safety policy and procedures, ensuring that all practices and procedures are undertaken in accordance with a healthy and safe working environment and that all staff and volunteers for whom you may be responsible are aware of their responsibilities in respect of their role, monitoring data and recommending action as required. To administrate and organise own work to ensure that it is accurate and meets quality targets, reasonable deadlines and reporting requirements. To follow the Society s management information guidelines and requirements, including ensuring appropriate monthly measures on service usage levels are collected and submitted on the services database or other systems in accordance with deadlines.
4 Person specification Regional Fundraising Manager All of the following requirements are essential, unless marked with a * when they are desirable, and will be assessed from a combination of information provided from the application form and interview process. Education and qualifications Numerate and literate, with good standard of education preferably to degree level Certificate in Fundraising Management Skills and experience Extensive fundraising experience in one or more of community fundraising, events, corporate and legacy and recognition giving Experience of managing and leading a geographically and cross-functional dispersed team Experience in matrix management Experience of recruiting to, and working with, volunteer fundraising groups Budgeting and financial management at an appropriate level Proven track record in exceeding targets Knowledge of the principles of donor management in the voluntary sector Understanding of relationship fundraising or relationship marketing Familiarity with MS Office and fundraising databases Ability to develop, motivate and manage individuals and groups of individuals, both staff and volunteers Ability to articulate information in a persuasive manner Able to work on own initiative with a broad and competing workload Excellent time management and delegation skills Strong leadership, management, interpersonal and team building skills Able to analyse information and make objective decisions Personal attributes / qualities Ability to be self-motivated Strong relationship building skills Ability to manage a competing workload Able to show empathy for people with dementia and their carers
