Job purpose Provide relevant and accurate information, advice and guidance to both internal and external customers whilst delivering outstanding levels of customer service on a daily basis. 2. Main duties and responsibilities Provide a professional and friendly service to both internal and external customers dealing with face to face, telephone and electronic enquiries. Assist customers with making appointments and referring them to other College support services as and when is necessary. Take responsibility for researching, understanding and communicating the funding available to students at the College in a clear and accurate medium. Including the SFA funding rules, 24+ Advanced Learner Loans, student Support Funds, charities Develop strong links with academic areas in the College in order to develop a stronger understanding of courses and ensure that IT systems and reports are updated and accurate. Meet with allocated areas on a regular basis. Assist with the administration of the admission of students to the College student support funds (Incl. Discretionary support fund, 24+ bursary fund, access to learning fund, Care to Learn and EMA/ALG Wales) and providing an efficient service to applicants, students and College staff. Attend events organised by other areas of the Customer Services & Marketing team including school interviews, open evenings and parent events. Take responsibility for planning and coordinating the Late applications process. Utilise and updating a number of IT and web based systems in order to provide effective information and advice and to record statistical information as per departmental procedures. Undertake enrolment duties, including the processing enrolment forms, receipting of tuition fees and producing student ID badges. Ensure the timely and accurate recording of enrolment forms onto the student records system. Actively and positively promote the services offered by the Student Services team. Support the team in day to day operational issues and identify improvement opportunities within the appropriate feedback mechanisms.

2 Participate in college open events providing information to potential applicants. Assist with the delivery of staff induction including training of staff Participate in enrolment, including assisting with training and support of temporary staff. Work towards agreed quality standards and assist with the development of the service to suit the needs of current and future students in line with ISO 9001standards and procedures. Cover other areas within the Customer Services and Marketing Department when necessary. 3. 3 Further Education is an ever-changing service and all staff are expected to participate constructively in College activities and to adopt a flexible approach to their work. This job description will be reviewed annually during the performance review process, and will be varied in the light of the business needs of the College. The job description sets out the main duties of the post at the date when it was drawn up. 4 Person specification Job title: Student Advisor ATTRIBUTES ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE Significant customer service experience in an office environment. Experience of providing an advice and guidance service. Experience within the FE/HE sector or education sector. Experience of working in a fast changing environment. Experience of working to tight deadlines. Knowledge and experience of Windows based software to include word processing and spread sheets. QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING A Levels or equivalent. GCSE English and Maths grade A-C or equivalent. Advice and Guidance Level 4 or willingness to study relevant qualification. Customer Service or willingness to study relevant qualification. ABILITIES Excellent accuracy and attention to detail skills. Excellent organisational skills and be a team player. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Must be able to work to deadlines. Ability to present to groups. Ability to persuade and influence. Willing and able to deal with difficult customers.
