As stated in the advert, the main purpose of the job will be to provide agreed support to the teacher in the delivery of activities around progress and interventions in English and to work under the supervision of the reach to carry out planned learning activities with small groups or individuals. The ideal candidate will have a good standard of Literacy at GCSE level or equivalent, and NVQ or equivalent in Teaching and learning, and some experience of working within a similar role. Thomas Estley is a highly successful Community College serving the villages of Broughton Astley, Cosby and Whetstone, rated Outstanding by OFSTED. We are part of an Umbrella Trust comprising Cosby Primary School, Leysland High School, Countesthorpe Community College and Thomas Estley Community College. 5 School/College: Job Title: Thomas Estley Community College Literacy Learning Support Assistant Grade: 5 Working Hours Responsible To: Key Relationships/ Liaison with: Job Purpose: Occupational Standards: 30 hours per week, term time Plus an additional 30 hours per annum Working hours negotiated annually subject to timetable needs Inclusion Manager / Assistant Principal for Inclusion Teachers, Inclusion Team, Other classroom/ Library/IT support staff, Centre Staff To work under the direct supervision of a teacher to provide support for teaching and learning and associated activities in accordance with school policies and procedures. This may include providing general support for whole class learning activities, or supporting individuals or small groups of pupils. Supporting Teaching and Learning (STL) Level 2 MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. To provide agreed support to the teacher in the delivery of planned whole class learning activities, including supporting resourcing and delivery of learning. 2. To support, identification, mentoring and recording activities around progress and interventions in English. 3. To work under the supervision of a teacher to carry out planned learning activities with small groups or individual pupils, providing feedback on their engagement in activities and their progress against the desired learning objectives. This activity to be carried out with a particular focus on narrowing the gap and improving attainment outcomes for disadvantaged pupils, in liaison with Inclusion department / SLT line manager as appropriate. 4. To support the provision of literacy intervention programmes, identified by teachers and appropriate to raising the achievement of disadvantaged pupils, tracking progress and liaising with English Teachers. 5. To observe and feed back to the teacher on pupil performance and behaviour, taking action as appropriate in line with relevant school policies. 6. To support the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of pupils, including contributing ideas and suggestions to support planning, to meet their development needs. To support pupils to participate in activities and liaising with other adults and professionals as appropriate, to raise aspiration and attainment in English.

6 7. To interact with and respond positively and professionally to children, young people and adults. 8. To develop positive relationships with colleagues, providing consistent and effective support and working constructively as a member of the school staff team. 9. To be aware of school and statutory frameworks that directly impact on their own work with pupils. 10. To contribute to the provision of support for bilingual / multilingual pupils as and if required. 11. To participated as required in continual professional development activities. GENERAL Undertake duties elsewhere within the Support Team as required Such other duties as required commensurate with the grade of the post This job description sets out the duties of the post at the time when it was drawn up. Such duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed. In fact the make up and emphasis of duties will be one area covered in annual review of the post and rewritten accordingly. Such variations are a common occurrence and cannot in themselves justify a reconsideration of the grading of the post. It is vital to the ethos of the Support Team that the postholder is flexible in taking on additional tasks, willing to offer help to and cover for other members of the Team and treats co-operation and support for colleagues as a top priority.
