1 Lecturer in Electrical / Maintenance Engineering Ref: ,500 35,500 salary circa 37 Hours per Week, 52 Weeks per Year The Faculty for Construction and Engineering Technologies are currently seeking a Lecturer in Electrical / Maintenance Engineering to teach electrical and maintenance engineering and associated subjects including employability skills and associated English and maths as appropriate. The successful candidate will have a good standard of general education indicated through good GCSE grades or equivalent including grade C or above in Maths & English. You will also have a level 3 or equivalent in an Engineering / Electrical Engineering Discipline along with a recognised teaching qualification or willingness to achieve one in post. In addition to the above, significant industrial experience in fields of the engineering or electrical engineering sector is also essential. Please contact Adam Ward, on or by to Additional Information The Faculty for Construction and Engineering Technologies currently offers courses to approximately 2200 students studying towards engineering and construction programmes within the areas of engineering (mechanical and electronic), fabrication and welding, electrical installations, brick work, wood trades, plumbing, vehicle body repair, painting and decorating, motor vehicle mechanics, construction and motor cycle service and repair qualifications. The faculty currently operates from a main campus in Colchester which boasts purpose built facilities, comprising of twenty state of the art workshops and five state of the art laboratories. As well as the main campus at Colchester the faculty also operates from four significant satellite sites at Braintree, Harwich, Clacton and Stanway, one of which was opened to support specific employer requirements and the growing work based learning demand within the region. It is a proactive and forward thinking faculty which is well supported by the colleges senior management team. The working environment within the faculty is excellent, with good rates of pay, realistic case loads and other benefits. Further plans to expand and widen the colleges suite of STEM programmes are currently being realised including the construction of a new south wing at the Colchester campus which includes a further eight state of the art training workshops and a purpose build working at height training tower with an enclosed space training facility. The College places a strong emphasis on recruiting high quality staff and on supporting continuing professional development to ensure that employees are effective in providing high standards of teaching and learning and in putting customers first. 3 Job Description Job Title: Reports to: Lecturer in Electrical / Maintenance Engineering Business Development Manager Grade: Lecturer Band 1: Range Lecturer Band 2: Range Overall Responsibility To teach electrical and maintenance engineering and associated subjects including employability skills and associated English and maths as appropriate Main Duties 1. To prepare teaching/learning materials. 2. To conduct teaching/learning activities (including functional skills) appropriate to the needs of individual students, courses and the curriculum, keeping attendance records and maintaining student discipline. 3. To set, mark and record relevant coursework and assessments. 4. To counsel and guide students in respect of their academic progress and, as appropriate, their pastoral concerns and needs and making referrals to specialist services as appropriate; contributing to student reports and references as required. 5. To contribute to the work of subject and programme teams, committees and boards, as appropriate. 6. To, at all times, maintain high expectations of learners work, commitment, and behaviour, taking action to ensure the highest of standards are met. 7. To continuously evaluate and improve the quality of learning and teaching within your sessions utilising and engaging with the college s development and observation programmes. 8. To contribute to the development of curricula and specialist facilities within the Centre. 9. To actively promote the Institute s programmes, attend open evenings, parents evenings, careers events, school visits and similar marketing and publicity activities. 10. To maintain and extend links with external organisations as appropriate. 11. To participate in the colleges performance and development review scheme. 12. To develop and update personal professional expertise in the relevant subject areas. 13. To apply the colleges Safeguarding and Health and Safety Policy. 14. 5 PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications / Training Essential Good standard of general education indicated through good GCSE grades or equivalent including grade C or above in Maths & English Level 3 or equivalent in an Engineering / Electrical Engineering discipline Evidence of C P D Willingness to work towards a recognised teaching qualification Desirable BTEC Higher National Cert or an equivalent level 4 qualification in an engineering / electrical engineering discipline Teaching Qualification. e.g. Cert Ed Assessor award Internal verification award. Knowledge / Experience Significant industrial experience in fields the engineering or electrical engineering sector Supervisory experience and / or experience in dealing directly with customers, clients or students.
