Pre-Conference Registration deadline is June 15, 2014!!! Go to or for a conference registration. NBNA takes Visa and Mastercard. We really prefer a check!!!! Invite your nursing colleagues to join you. If you are bringing guests, non-nurses and non-nursing students, and you plan to bring them with you to the President s Gala or Sunday Brunch, they will need to purchase a ticket for those events if they are not fully registered guests. Make your Hotel Reservations for the NBNA Conference! We are getting excited about the 2014 NBNA Annual Institute and Conference that is set to begin August 6-10, 2014, almost eight weeks from today. There is still time to reserve your hotel room at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown at the NBNA Conference rate. Don t delay; make your reservation NOW. I know that you want to be in the host hotel. It will cost you nothing to make your hotel reservation now before the room block is sold out. Even though you have until July 5 to make a hotel reservation, the NBNA room block may be sold out before that time. Presidents Leadership Institute For All Chapter Presidents and Vice Presidents, the Presidents Leadership Institute will feature THREE CE sessions, breastfeeding, the Affordable Care Act and nurses and administrators as civil, professional and collaborative providers of care; along with learning more about being a leader at the local level. This session takes place on Wednesday, August 6, 8:00 a.m. 4 p.m. Signature Plenary Sessions Plenary Session I will take place on Thursday, August 7th, 10:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. The speakers will be Dr. Linda Burnes Bolton, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, Cedars Sinai Health System, Los Angeles, CA; Rear Admiral Sylvia Trent Adams, Chief Nursing Officer, U.S. Public Health Service; Dr. Sue Hassmiller, Senior Advisor for Nursing, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; Dr. Toni Villarruel, incoming Dean, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing; and Jacqueline Wright, Vice President, IT, Microsoft. The panelists will present on the intersection between academia, practice and technology. Plenary Session II will take place on Friday, August 8th, 3:30 p.m. 4:30 p.m. Dr. Dawn M. Bazarko, Senior Vice President, Center for Nursing Advancement, UnitedHealth Group will present, The Mindful Nurse Leader: Strategies for Bringing Mindfulness into Nursing Practice. 3 Emerging Student Leadership Forum The Emerging Student Leadership Forum is for all nursing students at all levels. This forum is designed to enhance the student s nursing school experience by discussing topics that inspire professional competence, improve interpersonal skills and rouse leadership capabilities. Specifically, the forum will focus on stress management techniques, essential leadership traits, effective communication skills and the significance of creating and maintaining a positive nursing image. The Forum is Friday, August 8, 8:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. LPN/LVN Forum The LPN/LVN Forum will feature a session on Environmental Justice, where nurses will learn more about environmental racism and environmental equality and how to incorporate environmental consciousness into health promotion. This session will take place on Friday, August 8, 1-3 p.m. NBNA Summer Youth Leadership Institute Are you bringing young people ages 8 18 to the NBNA Conference? You may register them for the NBNA Summer Youth Leadership Institute, Friday, August 8; sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania School Of Nursing. The participants will have an age appropriate, day long interactive sessions on clinical aspects of nursing and health that will excite and engage them on a potential career path. The Summer Youth Leadership Institute has a mission component created by each successive cohort. This year, 200 packages of personal items will be packaged and given out to a Philadelphia area homeless shelter. How can you help? Bring new personal size items to the conference of tooth paste, tooth brush, deodorant, comb, brush, mouthwash, wash cloth, and plastic soap container. The items will be given to Self-Inc. of Philadelphia. You may leave your donations at the receptacles which will be located at the NBNA Conference registration. NBNA "Under Forty Forum", Friday, August 8, 4:00 p.m. 6:30 p.m. Join The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's pediatric nursing leaders in the "Under Forty Forum". This will be an opportunity for the NBNA conference participants, under 40 year old members or recent BSN graduates, to meet, ask questions, network and learn. The panel will consist of: Director of Nursing, Nurse Managers (inpatient and outpatient), Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Informatics leader and a RN Clinical Supervisor. Then get ready for the NBNA version of speed dating. NBNA nurse leaders will also be a part of the speed dating. Join each of the nursing leaders for a few minutes of individual conversation and hear about their professional journey and words of advice for the "Next Shift" of nursing talent, You!! If you want great advice about a new job, advisory board, or career path, bring your resume and/or biographical sketch with you to this session.
