1 4 th Annual NAHSE Emerging Leaders Healthcare Summit Wyndham Airport Hotel & Executive Meeting Center Miami, Florida August 15-16, 2008 The National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE) 4 th Annual Emerging Leaders Healthcare Summit (formerly known as the Student Summit) is an educational conference which focuses on the unique needs of undergraduate and graduate students as well as early careerists in the field of healthcare administration. For those involved in NAHSE, this will prove to be another invaluable learning and networking opportunity. For those who are unfamiliar with the organization, the Summit can be your first step toward a wealth of resources, information and fellowship. NAHSE is committed to the development and support of tomorrow s health care leaders, and the Summit continues to serve as part of NAHSE's organization s efforts to provide young, emerging health care executives with the tools and experiences necessary to become successful health care leaders. The Emerging Leaders Healthcare Summit will be like its predecessors but continue to raise the bar on enriching the minds of attendees, offering valuable exposure to senior level health care executives and the opportunity to interact with up and coming healthcare leaders and current senior level executives. 2 Registration Information Pre-registration for the Summit is only $50.00 for NAHSE members and non-members, students and industry professionals, and is strongly encouraged to ensure printing of your name in the souvenir book s list of attendees, ensure receipt of a Summit souvenir book, ensure resume review participation and advance printing of registration materials. The early bird registration deadline will close July 25, 2008, and registration fees will increase after this time. Early registrants may receive early bird registration gifts and may be entered into a drawing for additional prizes. 3 Opening Address NAHSE Executive Director Charlisa will address attendees with a warm welcome and briefly address the conference goals and theme, Additionally, Co-Chairs Stonish Pierce and Corey Fleming will prepare you for the Summit by providing you with an overview of the program agenda and introduction of the committee members in attendance. Career/Higher Education Fair The Career/Higher Education Fair is a joint Career Fair and Higher Education Fair. The Higher Education Fair presents a prime opportunity for undergraduate students interested in learning more about graduate programs in healthcare administration to interact with program representatives and alumni from several of the nation s top graduate level programs in healthcare administration and management and for graduate programs the opportunity exists to recruit diverse undergraduate candidates. The Career Fair will provide both undergraduate and graduate level students and early careerists with first-hand access to healthcare organizations providing administrative residencies, fellowships and employment opportunities and provide these organizations with access to many diverse candidates that are likely to be applying for postgraduate opportunities with their institutions in the forthcoming months. Nathaniel Wesley, Jr. Executive Brain Bowl Competition The Nathaniel Wesley, Jr. Executive Brain Bowl Competition has been designed to stimulate learning in a variety of subject areas related to Healthcare Administration, to test students knowledge of healthcare related facts, topics and issues, and to develop and promote skills that are important for healthcare professionals to understand and embrace (i.e. teamwork, confidence, and decision-making skills). Undergraduate and graduate students in healthcare management or related fields of study are encouraged to participate in the competition, which will occur in three phases (preliminary, semi-final, and final) during the two-day Summit Event. Upon arrival at the Summit, students will be randomly matched into teams of three individuals. The first, second, and third place teams will receive scholarship prizes to honor their achievement in the competition and will be recognized at the Awards Ceremony. Dress for Success Fashion Show As students and early careerists prepare to join the workforce, typically in management level roles, it is important that their outward appearance reflects competence, credibility and confidence. For this reason, the Early Connections Committee is presenting a fashion show to demonstrate how one s attire can make the difference in professional and career success. Male and female participants will demonstrate on the runway examples of appropriate and inappropriate business attire. This will include categories such as the professional interview, business casual, and everyday business attire. Testimonies from Past Attendees My first encounter with the NAHSE organization was at the 2007 NAHSE Student Summit in Houston, TX. Within the first few minutes of arriving at the Summit, I was approached by one of the Summit Officers and our conversation led to her advising me about my upcoming fellowship applications and interviews. In those few minutes I quickly realized the sincerity and commitment of the organization to promoting advancement and development of students and early careerists within the healthcare industry.
