AFC S BIG BACK-TO-SCHOOL ISSUE! This is our biggest newsletter yet! AFC has so many new programs to offer and we are sure to reach more members of the community than ever! Read on, and more importantly, come to our Open House on September 23 rd!!! See calendar on page 2 for details)!!! AFC is Reaching Out to Youth After much ado, AFC is finally ready to offer a host of new events catering to younger audiences, starting in September. We will be offering new classes for children and adolescents on Thursday afternoons in the Municipal Arts Center. See the course schedule on page 5 for details. We will also continue to offer afterschool French classes (one hour per week) in local elementary schools. At $10 per student, per hour (with a minimum of 10 students), it is less expensive than a babysitter!! For more details see page 4, and contact us to set up a class at your school! On October 16 th, we will host a child and teen-friendly Family Day at Graves Mountain Lodge for the Apple Harvest Festival. Spending the day in the nature is, after all, a very French thing to do! Our group will meet for a full lunch at 11:30 in the Main Lodge (cost $15 per person). Enjoy Bluegrass music, cloggers, arts and crafts, horseback rides, hay rides, apple picking and more!. We hope to host high school students from our sister city, Besançon, who are doing an exchange with Monticello H.S. If you would like to join us and perhaps sponsor a student for the lunch, the cost would be $15 each. We would love to see you there and if you could support a student, it would be more than appreciated! This would be a great opportunity to show the French students some traditional southern hospitality (along with local food and music!). Please contact us at info@afcville.org for more information. Reservations need to be made in advance, so please respond by September 6 th. Etiquette Classes are definitely in vogue, and AFC can offer them! Choose the modules that would be of interest to you, your children, your church/special interest group and we will deliver a hands-on class. For more detailed information, contact us! Want to Work at the AFC?? We are looking for two volunteers: a Webmaster for the AFC Web Site, and a computer savvy Office Assistant. You can learn French office vocabulary and get professional experience for your resume at the same time! If desired, you can also attend our French classes free of charge (hours worked = hours of free classes). Send an email today with a description of your skills to info@afcville.org! AFC s Bastille Day Silent Auction a Great Success!! Many warm thanks to the below generous individuals and businesses who donated items. Funds raised will allow us to offer an after-school French class, free of charge, in a Charlottesville City School for the 2010-2011 school year! We are proud to offer a service to children in our community. More projects to come!!!!
