1 Summer 2015 Hi Reading Coach! The Team Read Summer Program is an excellent way for current and former Team Read tutors to stay involved with not only Team Read, but also the Seattle Public Library and the Seattle School District! As a summer tutor, you will work as a classroom assistant at a local elementary school in the mornings, and then in the afternoon, you will tutor at a nearby Seattle Public Library branch to help students with reading comprehension and literacy (tutors can choose to work in the mornings, the afternoons, or both). As an employee of Team Read, the Seattle Public Library, and the Seattle School District, this is the ultimate resume and college application booster. The pay rate is $11 an hour and the position will last 6 weeks (2 to 6 hours a day), making this a perfect summer job for all Team Read tutors. Benefits for you: Summer coaches will earn valuable work experience in fun team settings. Summer tutors will be compensated for their work at an hourly rate of $11.00 (minimum wage). Coaching positions for the summer are limited based on availability. Signing up for summer employment with Team Read is easy: 1. Fill out the enclosed Summer Coach Application 2. 3 PROGRAM OVERVIEW: Team Read s Summer Program invites qualified high school and middle school students to work as reading tutors (coaches) and classroom assistants during the summer months; program times and dates vary by site. 5 ESSAY for SUMMER COACHES All applicants for the summer program must complete the following essay. Your answer will be thoroughly reviewed and is an important factor in selection for the position. (Please feel free to use a separate sheet of paper and attach if you need additional space.) #1) Describe the tutoring skills you ve developed in Team Read (be specific please) and how you ve been a positive role model and mentor for your student(s). #2) Explain how you would use these skills as a summer classroom assistant and/or tutor. 5

6 AVAILABILITY FOR SUMMER TUTORING SITE Sign up to work with a Seattle Public Schools teacher as a classroom assistant in the morning and/or as a one-on-one reading tutor for elementary readers in the afternoon. Tutors available to work 6 hours per day are encouraged to sign up for both a classroom assistant position and a tutoring position. Review the program schedules below and check any that you prefer. If you are flexible, check more than one school in each category. Tutoring positions are limited, assignments will be based on site coordinator recommendation, tutor seniority and completion of this application. There will be a mandatory training for all tutors June 17 from 1 3pm at the John Stanford Center and additional mandatory training for all classroom assistants June 18 & 19 from 8am to 5pm. Site assignments will be made by Team Read staff using the choices you ve indicated. If we need tutors at a specific location, we will contact you regarding your availability. Classroom Assistant positions: Classroom assistants will help Seattle Public School teachers with summer programming in the classroom at local elementary schools. All classroom assistant positions are June 22 th to July 31 st, Monday Friday, 8:30am-12:30pm; 6-week commitment. Mandatory training for all classroom assistants June 17 (1-3pm), and also 18 and 19 (both days, 8am to 5pm) at the John Stanford Center.
