Urana Central School Newsletter Personalised, innovative education in a unique and caring environment 5 December, 2013 Term 4, Issue 5 Urana Central School 62 William St Urana NSW 2645 Phone: (02) Fax: (02) uranac.school@det.nsw.edu.au Website: Contents Principal s News General Information Upcoming Events * 2 to 6.12 Secondary Excursion * 9 to K-6 Swim School * 10 to VET Metals TAFE - Leeton * K-6 Harvey s Fun Park/ 7-12 Laser Tag Albury * NO Kidz Club *18.12 NO Transition * PRESENTATION EVENING AT UCS *18.12 K-11 BBQ/Pool afternoon Dear parents/caregivers, All Things Urana Central School Many months of planning came to fruition on Saturday when we celebrated the past and the present UCS. It was wonderful to see many people, interested community people, staff and students return to the school. It gave us the opportunity to showcase the school of today knowing its fabric has been woven over many, many years. It was important to mark this significant point in the school s history and thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the day and the evening. We were very excited when the secondary students unveiled the tile wall, the collective artistic contribution of everyone associated with school happenings throughout It will be a permanent reminder of Department of Education and Communities Reforms We are working in a Local Schools Local Decisions environment and we are part of the Empowering Local Schools 229 school project. The 229 schools currently doing business in a new way with the introduction of Student Wellbeing, Finance and Student Management packages are guinea pigs paving the way for the other 2000 schools to come on board later next year. The level of training required of myself and Karen has been time consuming and we are dealing with ongoing issues with its use on a daily basis. It will be a great system when fully operational and it will change the way we do business and enable a more streamlined approach to student records. Closing out Term 4 Secondary students are currently enjoying what the theme parks on the Gold Coast have to offer. From all reports they are having a wonderful time and we look forward to hearing all about their escapades next week when they return. Andrew heads over to Leeton next week to complete a week at TAFE with Bromeo and Jessie from Oaklands. This block at TAFE allows them to achieve some of the competencies of the VET Metals and Engineering course.
Swim School for K-6 students starts next Monday 9 December and continues each afternoon through to Friday. Please ensure your children have swimmers, towel, sunscreen, water and a hat each day next week. On Monday 16 December (last Monday of school) we propose to take the whole school into Albury. K-6 are going to Harvey s Fun Park on the Lincoln Causeway while Yr7-10 will do Laser Tag. We will come together for a shared lunch before returning to Urana. A note will go home early next week. Our annual Presentation Night will be on Tuesday 17 December starting with a free school community BBQ at 6.00pm here at Urana Central School. Formal proceedings will begin at 6.30 pm under the COLA. We look forward to celebrating student achievement. On Wednesday 18 December we will go up to Colombo Lodge in the morning to spread some Christmas cheer. We plan to sing carols and perhaps perform a reader s theatre for the residents. To finish the term the whole school are having a free BBQ lunch at the pool before enjoying an afternoon of activities in the water. As you can see the rest of the term is jam packed so please take note of each activity and return all notes as they come home to ensure your child/children participates in all activities. UCS continues to promote personalised, innovative education in a unique and caring environment Dorothy Dore Principal KIDZ CLUB The final Kidz Club for 2013 will be next Tuesday, 10 th December. Kidz Club will resume for primary students on Tuesday, 4 February, 2014 from 3.00 pm to 4.15 pm. Students can come along and join in afternoon tea, craft activities, story time and sometimes cooking. Please remember that adults are welcome to come along and join in the fun while helping out on a regular or non-regular basis.
ALL THINGS URANA CENTRAL SCHOOL 30th NOVEMBER, 2013 Our fabulous day commenced with approximately 200 people arriving to view displays, DVD s and open classrooms. Everyone happily chatted to old and new friends.
The formal assembly provided us with the opportunity to hear K-6 students sing Keep On, perform their recreated 1930 s dance and the tile wall was unveiled by the secondary students. The Punishment Book held some interesting secrets as did past magazines and laughter could be heard from the maths room.
As day turned to evening we adjourned to the stunningly decorated Supper Room at the Memorial Hall to hear from past students Gerald Dore and Callum Fealy and past teachers/principal, Trevor Hegvold, Bob Hudson and Jo Clews. Peter and Irene Schirmer performed some beautiful music and there was more chatter and eating in between. Thanks to the P &C for the decorations and Michele Seymour for the delicious food.

November 2013 Dear Wendy CONGRATULATIONS! This year, the MS Readathon again provided an incentive to all the schools who took part. By simply encouraging 10% of the student population to register and raise $10 each, the school would be eligible to receive 10% of the total funds raised back in the form of Bookworld gift vouchers. Wendy, I am very pleased to share with you the wonderful news that Urana Central School was successful in achieving this criteria. A total of 25 of your students registered for this year s program and raised a total of $ That means that a Bookworld gift voucher to the value of $29.95 will shortly be on its way to you to purchase books for your school s library our way of saying thankyou for your fantastic support. (If, however, you would like to donate the gift voucher back to MS Australia, please let us know by ing us at msreadathon@msaustralia.org.au or calling ) So far in 2013, students across Australia have raised nearly $265K to provide essential support services for the 23,700 people living with multiple sclerosis. Without support from schools such as Urana Central School this would not be possible thank you for making a difference in the lives of so many! Please remind your students that, if they have yet to complete the program, there is still time! Just visit our website for more information: If you have any further queries, please visit our website or call Gill DeCis MS Readathon Manager MS Australia - ACT / NSW / VIC msreadathon@msaustralia.org.au
