2 About Salford City College Welcome to Salford City College, one of the largest and most successful colleges in the North West. We are a Beacon Status college, awarded for delivering outstanding teaching and learning, whose mission is to inspire and empower people to create and take opportunities to enrich lives through learning. The college has 4 superb centres for young students: Pendleton, City, Eccles and Walkden Sixth Form Centres, each of which has its own Centre Principal. In 2013, the college achieved an A-Level pass rate of over 99% and 100% Advanced Vocational pass rate. In addition, our students gained a record number of high grades in their exams. Our tutors have fantastic industry links and we are able to offer students unique opportunities that will give them that extra edge when applying for university, employment or apprenticeships. In 2012/2013 there were a number of highlights for our students. These have included our students showcasing at WorldSkillsUK, gaining places at Oxford and Cambridge, as well as some of the top drama and dance schools in the country. We have also had a record number of guest speakers come into the college to do workshops and give advice to students. 4 Job Description Reports to Head of Human Resources As part Body of text the in this HR font. team you will provide a professional, high quality, Two columns proactive and effective HR service to your designated service areas. The role will include the management of HR case work, advising on terms and conditions and supporting managers through formal investigations such as disciplinary and grievance procedures. In order to shine amongst your colleagues you will need some experience of working within a HR setting, an understanding of HR systems and processes along with the need to be organised and supportive. It can be a demanding role and so you will need to be both flexible and dedicated in your approach and have excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.

5 Main Duties of the Role Main Duties and Responsibilities To be the first point of contact for line managers for all employee relations issues and provide advice and guidance in line with Colleges policies and procedures, employment law and best practice. To support managers through the disciplinary and grievance procedures. This will include advising on the process, managing the investigatory process, checking letters, taking notes at meetings and ensuring that consistent outcomes are given at all meetings were possible. To advise and support managers on the management of sickness cases in accordance with the Colleges absence management policies and the Equality Act, liaising as appropriate with Occupational Health and the HR Administrator for Sickness Absence. To manage maternity cases so that employees are kept fully informed or their entitlements and payroll are aware when maternity leave commences and ends. Prepare maternity, paternity & adoption and voluntary severance and process in accordance with the relevant procedure.

6 Main Duties of the Role Main Duties and Responsibilities To advise and support managers on restructuring their services, including support with redundancy, redeployment and early retirement cases in accordance with policy and employment legislation. To assist with job evaluations where necessary working closely with the JE Analyst and conduct JE Evaluations in the absence of the JE Analyst. To provide day to day supervision and guidance to the HR Assistant, and HR Administrators. To support and assist the HR Manager on a range of HR projects and initiatives. To keep abreast of developments in employment legislation and case law, and be proactive in ensuring managers are appropriately briefed on relevant changes and new legislation, inclusive of undertaking inductions/workshops for all staff. To maintain and provide statistical and management information as required for reports such as SMT and monthly HR reports for the Head of Human Resources.

Essential Criteria Qualifications CIPD or equivalent Literacy/Numeracy/IT at Level 2 Driving Licence Professional Development Evidence of on going professional development Up to date knowledge in Employment Law Desirable Criteria Certificate in Personnel or equivalent Certificate in Workplace Mediation Degree in HR or equivalent Knowledge Knowledge of HR generalist issues Knowledge of current employment law legislation Knowledge of best practice in specific HR areas (Recruitment and Selection, Absence Management, Capability, disciplinary and Grievance) Knowledge of Sixth Form colleges Pay terms and conditions

9 Benefits (Terms and Conditions) Terms and conditions of employment: Will be those for Grade 7 staff - Sixth Form Colleges Terms and Conditions. Salary for this grade: 18,832-21,420 per annum (Potential to progress through the salary grade every September through satisfactory performance reviews and completion of the Colleges mandatory training). Holidays: 32 days, plus 8 bank holidays per year. Pension: You will be enrolled in the Colleges Greater Manchester Pension Superannuation Scheme.
