1 BARNET AND SOUTHGATE COLLEGE JOB RESPONSIBILITY PROFILE POST: POST REFERENCE: SALARY: HOURS: LOCATION: RESPONSIBLE TO: PURPOSE OF POST: CORE RESPONSIBILITIES 1. FTE and 0.5 FTE MGL HE & Childcare & Education BPICC ,838-37,622 per annum inclusive of Outer London weighting, or Pro-rata for fractional posts. 35 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum, including evenings & weekends when required and/or hours per week, 52 weeks per annum. Based at Wood Street, although the post holder will be required to work on other College sites and other off site premises. Curriculum Manager Childcare & Education To teach & assess HE Childcare & Supporting Teaching and Learning as well as related subjects across a wide range of courses and to the highest standards. To contribute to curriculum development. To act as Personal Tutor and Course Leader to groups of students. 1. To teach and assess in ways that motivate, enthuse and support learners on full-time and part-time courses and, if appropriate, from Entry Level to Level 7. Encompassing a range of programmes to primarily include Higher Education, CACHE Childcare/Supporting Teaching & Learning as well as others. 2. To undertake development of activities to support the curriculum area. 3. To prepare Schemes of Work and develop teaching and learning materials, including ILT, to meet the needs of the range of learners recruited to these courses.

2 4. To negotiate and meet targets for achievement and retention of students and to deliver Functional Skills/GCSEs (if appropriate) as integrated into the main programme. 5. To assess learners work in accordance with awarding body/institution requirements and to internally quality assure, following agreed procedures. 6. To keep records, monitor and track students progress and to keep management information and statistical data to fulfil the requirements of the College s QA and information systems and for audit purposes. 7. To contribute to the preparation for internal audits and verification, external verification and inspections. 8. To act as personal tutor to a group or groups of students as required, delivering a tutorial programme and completing electronic individual learning plan. 9. To undertake risk assessments for teaching, student performances, events and trips and visits as required. 10. To cover for absent colleagues in line with contractual agreements. 11. To give educational guidance and participate in learners admissions procedures such as open days and parent evenings. To support level 3 students with university applications. 12. To liaise with employers and other agencies in respect of student placements, supervision and careers, which may also include off-site assessment. To support all students to develop employability skills. 13. To participate in internal and external marketing and recruitment activities, interviewing and enrolment of learners. 14. To carry out administrative duties relating to the role. 15. To attend internal and external meetings as and when required. 16. To undergo direct and peer observation of classroom practice. To keep up to date with subject specialism and to attend training identified. 17. To act as a course leader for programmes within the area. 18. To work with the Line Manager to identify training needs, to actively seek out relevant training and development opportunities and to undertake professional and vocational updating as and when required. 19. To carry out such duties and responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act (etc.) 1974 and associated legislation as described in the College s policy documents.

3 20. To carry out such other duties as are commensurate with the grade of the post and may reasonably be required, at the initial place of work or at other locations at the College. 21. To participate and promote health, safety and welfare throughout the College and undertake duties and responsibilities in full accordance with the College s Health and Safety Policy and procedure. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Criteria Essential Desirable Evidenced by QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE BA degree in vocational area Masters degree A professional qualification at Level 4/5 or above in Childcare and Education A teaching qualification i.e. DTTL s, Cert.Ed., PGCE, BEd (or willingness to gain, with the support of the College, a qualification within the first 2 years) Experience of delivering functional skills Cava (A1 and V1) (D32/33/34/36) SKILLS AND ABILITIES Relevant and recent vocational experience in related Childcare & Education field (to include Supporting Teaching & Learning) Teaching and assessing (classroom and/or off site) experience Evidence of continuous professional development Thorough knowledge and understanding of current issues relating to curriculum area Proven success in course leading and personal tutor role Setting and achieving high standards for yourself and your students Some knowledge of Awarding Bodies such as CACHE and Higher Education Establishments.

5 SKILLS AND ABILITIES Cont d A proven commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults Intermediate IT skills (including MS Word and MS PowerPoint) and the ability to develop ILT and promote the use of ILT in the classroom. Experience of working in a team and a willingness to support other team members Excellent organisational skills, experience of problem solving and efficient administrative skills An ability to write comprehensive reports, lesson plans and scheme of work. An ability to work independently and to specified quality procedures. The ability to use ilearn/moodle An ability to work within and to implement the College s Single Equality Policy.
