1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Grade: Hours: Location: Department: Accountable to: Virtual Desktop Engineer Support Grade F 37 hours per week (pro-rata) Framwellgate Moor Campus ICT Job Purpose The holder of this post will be expected to support the operational needs within an enterprise VDi Environment within the College Infrastructure. In addition the person will be expected to support on a day to day basis the virtual desktop environment. The person appointed will liaise with a range of support, academic and management staff from all departments within the College. Key Result Areas. To ensure the College desktop virtual environment is appropriately configured to maintain security and optimal performance.. To ensure all College enterprise virtual desktops are up to date for their ongoing operation 3. To proactively support and maintain the College enterprise virtual desktops, 4. To work towards and achieve recognized certification appropriate to the environment. 5. Scheduling, performing or supervising upgrades and enhancements to any enterprise virtual desktops, and virtual desktop gold images as directed by the 6. Highlighting issues and escalations within these applications to the IT Operations Manager.

2 7. To provide technical advice on any changes to the enterprise virtual desktop environment and associated deployments. 8. Provide technical advice and support in the development and integration of enterprise desktops across the College. 9. To create, update and maintain Desktop images for all environments across the College. 0. To update and maintain any topology and/or configuration documentation of the environment as appropriate.. Monitoring of all Enterprise Virtual Desktops within the College Infrastructure to ensure optimal performance. Monitoring the underlying virtual server infrastructure for the enterprise virtual desktop environment. 3. Scheduling, performing or supervising upgrades and enhancements to any enterprise virtual desktops, and virtual desktop gold images as directed by the 4. Maintaining a stable virtual desktop environment for the College Infrastructure. 5. Raising support requests and dealing with virtual support issues as appropriate. 6. To assist with the liaison and support of external contractors where appropriate. 7. Undertake any other duties commensurate with grade. General Responsibilities. To promote the mission, vision and values of New College Durham. To ensure effective communications within and between teams, be involved in and participate in meetings, team briefings, development days etc. 3. To engage with line manager in regular appraisals and performance reviews against agreed objectives. 4. To be responsible for identifying own development needs.

Staff must take reasonable care, and be aware of their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act (974) and to ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for staff and visitors to the College. Variation in the Role Given the dynamic nature of the role and structure of New College Durham, it must be accepted that, as the College's work develops and changes, there will be a need for adjustments to the role and responsibilities of the post. The duties specified above are, therefore, not to be regarded as either exclusive or exhaustive. They may change from time to time commensurate with the grading level of the post and following consultation with the member of staff. Virtual Desktop problem solving skills which will enable effective resolution of user concerns/problems remotely Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the wider activities and operations of ICT ideally within Education. *For the post holder to be successful in the role, all criteria within the person specification are essential, however for the purpose of recruitment some are listed as desirable as we may expect to see this skill, experience or qualification develop or be obtained once in the role. Teaching qualifications are desirable at the recruitment stage, however it is essential that the teaching qualification is obtained within years of commencement of employment (for full time staff) or 5 years (for part time staff).
