Bromley College is a thriving and forward thinking organisation that has recently achieved an Ofsted rating of Good with outstanding features. We are oversubscribed and looking at the next phase of our development to offer the best learning experiences to thousands in the region. In September 2014 we will be opening the UKs first Careers College for the hospitality and catering industry: therefore we are looking for an experienced innovative and entrepreneurial current senior FE manager to develop our new Food & Enterprise Career College. We would like the successful applicant to start working with us ideally in January Your inspirational leadership will help the College embed the culture of continuous improvement that will help us achieve our vision of being recognised as an outstanding centre of vocational and educational excellence as a Career College. You will have the commercial as well as academic and vocational experience of the highest levels. Possessing excellent industry skills and an astute awareness of what it takes to provide high quality teaching, learning and assessment, which leads to excellent outcomes for our students. Career Colleges have been proposed by the Career College Trust to take advantage of the Government s decision to allow Further Education Colleges to recruit at 14. They will increase the range and choice of opportunities open to year olds. They will provide accelerated vocationally focused programmes of study alongside core academic work, at colleges equipped to the highest standards and staffed by expert teachers in academic and vocational subjects. Just as importantly, they will provide clear progression routes into higher education, apprenticeships, further education and above all, work. This is a new key role for the organisation and you will be required to deliver effective management of both staff and resources with a focus on realising the College vision. 2 JOB DESCRIPTION Post: Responsible to: Hours: Director of Food & Enterprise Careers College Vice Principal Curriculum & Quality and Food & Enterprise Careers College Board Full-time 37 hours per week Salary: Up to 60k POST SUMMARY: Strategic responsibility for the success, direction, management and development of the Food and Enterprise Careers College based on agreed objectives and targets Directing and leading the operational management of course managers, teaching/ training and support staff in Food and Catering area Developing outstanding relations with the Hospitality industry with focus on employer engagement and professional partners to promote learner opportunity and work focussed ethos in line with Careers Colleges Government aims Managing and developing high quality commercial and enterprise facilities within the Careers College campus to ensure realistic learner experience and robustly solvent business return MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST 1. To act at all times in accordance with the College s policies, in particular Health & Safety, Equality and Diversity and Safeguarding. To promote the highest standards of practice and ensure the effective implementation of these policies within your area of responsibility. 2. To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults you are responsible for or come into contact with. 3. Participate as required in College wide activities such as duty manager rotas, marketing activities, enrolments, staff and learner events. 4. To work in liaison with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure the Careers College is a national success. 5. Securing continuous improvement in teaching, learning practical training and assessment within the Careers College producing the highest standards of student success and ensuring that all students develop their knowledge, understanding, skills and abilities within a secure, challenging and stimulating educational environment. 6. Provide leadership, direction, support and motivation to all full and part time teaching and support staff within the College. 7. Manage and support appraisals and development of all staff to consistently have an outstanding customer experience and teaching, learning and assessment.

3 8. Manage the development and delivery of teaching, learning and assessment of learners within the Food and Enterprise operational area including the development of course materials, VLE and accreditation. 9. Ensure programmes operate within the requirements of curriculum assessment and examination regulations in accordance with Careers College criteria, Inspectorate, Awarding Organisation and College Policy. 10. Manage and monitor quality of delivery and ensuring College policies, quality assurance systems and all evaluation, verification and recording systems are maintained to strengthen a culture of Self Assessment and improvement. 11. Complete the Career College s Self Assessment report (SAR) and produce regular management reports and resulting action plans to agreed formats. Prepare for and manage Careers College Audit and Inspection Process. 12. Maintain accountability to and close liaison with Careers College Employer Patrons Board. Chair and report to meetings of Patrons board and Operational employers Group. 13. Where appropriate manage and oversee tutors to support the guidance offered to learners, including progression, attendance and punctuality, wellbeing and work experience/ employment opportunity. 14. Identify training and development needs, encouraging and supporting staff development and training of individuals and course teams within College Policy and procedures. 15. Ensuring frequent and effective communication with all staff in the Careers College thus enhancing staff knowledge, team building, participation, motivation, job satisfaction and performance. 16. Work closely with course managers and teams to ensure target enrolments, high level of student retention, progression, student achievement and student employability. 17. Manage day to day operations of the Food and Enterprise Careers College including teaching, timetabling, servicing arrangements and resource utilisation whilst ensuring the quality and satisfaction of the learning experience for students. 18. Develop and maintain a structured and progressive Hospitality and Catering Curriculum which integrates international cuisine and trends in dining, skills in Maths and English, and enterprise skills whilst maximising employment opportunity. 19. Maintain the budget, profitability, commercial and enterprise aspects of campus practical food and beverage production and sales operations to ensure efficient use of funding, maximised turnover of sales and profitability whilst maintaining the quality and parameters of student learning, training and work experience. 20. Work in conjunction with the Director of and Head of to ensure that the national curriculum offer along with the vocational content is of the highest standard. 21. Take responsibility for ensuring a number of local administrative functions are successfully completed: e.g. minutes of meetings, expenditure within budget, examination and assessment entry procedures, course management records.

4 22. In Liaison with Human Resources Department contribute to and manage appropriate action for the procedures in the recruitment and appointment of full and part time staff. 23. Maintain College Policy and directive in Health and Safety and Food Safety with rigour to achieve highest levels of accountability and practice. Establish and maintain efficient, auditable HACCPS process and action achievement of Level 5 Local Authority grade. 24. Ensure that all equipment and plant are well maintained, serviced and meet appropriate legal standards. 25. Ensure that all supplies are of appropriate quality, resourcing and price with storage and control to maximise efficient usage, maintenance of budget and environmental impact (sustainability, local resourcing). 26. Develop and maintain partnership and links with employers and key suppliers to foster and stimulate action and achievement relative to developing high levels of employability and entrepreneurial skills of learners as per the ethos and aims of the Food and Enterprise Careers College. Develop opportunity for sponsorship. 27. Develop and maintain profile and links with professional associations, schools, higher education, awarding organisations and sector skills council. (This may involve the establishment of local networking organisations for employers). 28. Develop a plan that embeds a unique student experience, encouraging their full participation and a positive impact within the Careers College. 29. Promote the Careers College and learners at local and national level with employers/trade publications and press by disseminating success of outcome, high profile newsworthy activities (e.g. Guest Chefs, VIP functions, theme events, enterprise projects, student biog/alumni press releases, presentations and competition success). 30. To plan and develop quality of facility and employer links to achieve eventual accreditation by Hospitality Guild (People 1 st ) as Gold standard Centre of Excellence. 31. Ensuring good routes into employment and the capture of destination date and the development of the College Alumni. General Duties: 1. The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post. The particular duties and responsibilities attached to posts may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed. 2. Ensure compliance with College requirements, policies, systems and procedures throughout the Academy, ensuring that accurate and up-to-date records and documentation are kept and held. 3. To carry out additional responsibilities as requested by Senior College staff and the Principal.

5 PERSON SPECIFICATION: Qualifications: A 1 st degree or equivalent professional qualification Teaching qualification (DTTLS, PGCE, Cert Ed) A Management Qualification or Quality Framework Accreditation Minimum of level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete Equality and diversity training or willingness to undertake Essential Desirable Knowledge, skills and experience: Experience of successfully leading and improving learner experience strategies within a curriculum area or cross college. Evidence of leading and managing a tutorial process that makes a positive impact on attendance, retention and success rates Evidence of leading an outstanding area and developing strategies which have a demonstrable impact on learner outcomes, including raising attendance, retention and achievement Experience of working in education with strong academic standards at its core. Driving positive change that impacts on success (e.g. schools, 6 th form may be an advantage) A full understanding of the Ofsted inspection process, particularly around support, enrichment, teaching, learning and assessment and how to drive the quality improvement strategies and processes to achieve excellence Knowledge of government education policy, funding and how to implement performance and standard measures to meet all areas.
