JOB INFORMATION Coventry Business School JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION Post Title: Reader in the Business & Management of Sport (expertise desirable in one or more of the following areas: commercial strategy in sport, sport marketing, sport governance, and/or corruption in sport) Grade: 9 Salary Range: 45,942-57,324 per annum Mode: Full time Ref No: REQ JOB DESCRIPTION.1 Purpose The post holder will lead and manage research projects and project teams in line with Faculty and University research objectives; this will include the generation of external research income, contributing to teaching and developing relationships and collaborations that enhance the reputation of the University whilst advancing knowledge in the field of Business and Management. As part of this the post holder will contribute to the Coventry Business School s REF submission in Business and Management (REF Unit of Assessment 19) and will play a significant role in the Centre for the International Business of Sport (by serving as its Deputy Director)..2 Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Take a leading role within University s 2013 REF submission to Unit of Assessment 19 Business and Management (and any subsequent research assessment exercises). 2. Enhance the research profile of Coventry Business School by undertaking research activity at an international level and by engaging proactively in other scholarly activities commensurate with the seniority of the post and the norms of the discipline. 3. Contribute to further developing the Centre for the International Business of Sport. 4. Actively enagage in the support and development of a dynamic research environment in Coventry Business School, the Faculty and University in oursuit of Faculty and University Applied Research objectives. 5. Develop proposals for research projects or programmes which will have demonstrable impact in the field of business and management through increases in knowledge, discovery and development of new insights, concepts and/or processes. 6. Act as Principal Investigator on major research projects, programmes and contracts including successful management, delivery and dissemination. 7. Review and analyse research findings, developing new insights that expand thought and practice in the field of business and management. 8. Seek and secure external research funding for major research projects and programmes through preparation and submission of persuasive bids.

Take the lead in promoting and disseminating research outputs using a range of media e.g. journals; external reports, refereed conference presentations, practitioner meetings and publications. 10. Develop relationships and partnerships externally to foster collaboration, generate income and enhance the impact of business and management research. 11. Lead and develop internal and external committees, professional bodies, groups and networks. 12. Provide academic leadership to others, by, for example, coordinating resources, setting objectives, mentoring junior staff, planning and organising work to deliver effectively. 13. Contribute to knowledge transfer and exploitation e.g. through knowledge transfer partnerships, patents, licence agreements, spin-out companies, short courses for external clients. 14. Contribute to the achievement and development of others through institutional processes (e.g. Recruitment, Development and Performance Review) and through encouraging, coaching and mentoring colleagues to become research active. 15. Input to the development of Departmental, Faculty and, where appropriate, University applied research strategy. 16. Develop the national and international standing and reputation of the applied research undertaken within the Faculty/University 17. Contribute to the management of quality, audit and other external assessments e.g. the Research Excellence Framework (REF). 18. Contribute to teaching programmes and curriculum development in own area including supervision of students.

3 PERSON SPECIFICATION - READER ATTRIBUTES ESSENTIAL ADVANTAGEOUS Education/ Qualifications Experience (Paid and Unpaid) Research/Publications Special Interests Good degree (1 st class or 2.1) in an appropriate subject such as Business Studies, Business Management, Sport Management etc. Masters in Business, Management, Sport Management, or related subject and/or relevant discipline or professional experience equivalent to a masters. PhD, or equivalent, in an area of Business and Management, ideally but not necessarily related to sport. Significant experience working in Business and Management or Sport Management research in a university or other relevant higher education institution, or in a relevant other organisation such as a consultancy or research agency. Teaching and assessment in an institution of Higher Education e.g. supervision of projects/dissertations; teaching of research methods; using research findings to inform teaching & learning practice/curriculum Proven track record of preparing and obtaining research funding and managing funded projects, with experience as a Principle Investigator on research projects/contracts. Record of publishing peer-reviewed papers, presentations at international conferences, other media dissemination activities etc. Up to date knowledge and understanding of Sport, Business and Education that will enable the candidate to contribute to a diverse range of activities in the field/discipline of Sport, Business and Management, although some knowledge of commercial strategy in sport, sport marketing, sport sponsorship, sport governance, corruption in sport would be an advantage. Membership of appropriate professional or learned society. Experience of curriculum development in an institution of Higher Education. Participated in successful applications for research funding. Prepared internal reports/project progress/evaluation reports.

5 Other Requirements stakeholders. Ability to motivate junior colleagues and research students. May be required to work outside of normal 8.30 am to 5.00 pm hours including weekends, on occasion. Willingness to travel both within the UK and abroad.
