2 The post holder will work closely with and report to Head of Individual Giving and will also work closely with the following The other managers in the Individual Giving team, in particular the other Both existing and prospective MS Society supporters All members of the fundraising department, in particular Heads of and s Area Fundraisers New media and Communications teams Fundraising staff based in Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland Staff throughout the MS Society External fulfilment agencies 3 SCOPE OF JOB: 1. Strategic development 2. Operational management 3. Staff management 4. Financial management 5. Producing reports and analysis 6. Managing team projects 4 DECISION MAKING: Strategic and operational decisions on the development and delivery of income through a portfolio of community and events fundraising activities, in particular regarding the investment of over 800k. 5 QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS LEVEL: Qualifications Educated to A level or equivalent Experience Proven events and/or community fundraising experience Proven experience of increasing income from marketing/sales/fundraising activity Proven experience of managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders Proven experience of identifying opportunities, planning new activities and managing change Experience of cultivating supporters Experience of managing personalised and mass communications such as newsletters Experience of marketing fundraising activities to cold and warm supporters through a range of different channels inc through new media Experience in managing and motivating staff and/or volunteers - 2 -

3 Experience of maximising the potential of a supporter database such as Raisers Edge Experience of building relationships within the team and across the organisation s functions to support the delivery of departmental plans and objectives Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of the principles of fundraising across a range of methodologies Diplomatic and tactful, with a proven ability to communicate well with a broad range of people and to engage and motivate supporters and volunteers Has excellent written and oral communication skills including in the delivery of presentations and training sessions Excellent prioritisation and organisational skills and the ability to set up, manage and complete projects within time constraints Uses advanced level IT skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and fundraising databases Has excellent analytical skills to evaluate activity and is able to manage processes and data effectively to allow effective targeting Respects the unique contribution of every individual and works positively in a diverse environment General Attributes Ability to work well in a team and on own initiative with minimal supervision Willing and able to work outside of normal hours to cover fundraising activities as necessary Part 2: MAIN DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Strategic development - 10% To develop and deliver the strategic direction for events and community fundraising, ensuring sustainable growth in net income for the Society To communicate strategy across fundraising staff and volunteers, engaging all in the delivery of activities To develop the strategy to keep abreast of changes within the sector and our audiences to keep the programme of activities modern and engaging 2. Operational management - 40% To break down the strategy into operational and personal work plans Plan, implement, monitor and evaluate a broad range of activities, projects and promotions to maximise income into the MS Society To work across the Society with volunteers and staff in fundraising to deliver a range of community and event activities maximising engagement of fundraisers and income to the Society To ensure the timely and effective marketing of all fundraising activities to maximise participation a variety of channels To develop appropriate processes, procedures and guidelines to ensure that community and events fundraisers receive a consistently high level of support - 3 -

4 and the team work as efficiently as possible To develop appropriate tools to allow community and events fundraisers to communicate with each other where appropriate To ensure that the highest standards of customer care are provided including suitable recognition to supporters To develop and implement tools to allow effective communication and reporting of income, expenditure and supporter trends To work with colleagues to ensure that fundraising is acknowledged as an integral part of service delivery To ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and Fundraising Standards Board requirements 3. Staff management - 20% To provide full delegated responsibility for all aspects of managing and supporting the events and community fundraising team. This includes responsibility for recruitment, induction, training, implementation of performance appraisal, disciplinary and grievance procedures and other relevant policies. To ensure that members of the team are fully aware of key issues, changes and organisational developments. To ensure that staff are fully aware of and compliant with all relevant legislation and Fundraising Standards Board requirements To provide strong leadership and to manage change effectively When required to provide cover for the other Events Fundraising 4. Financial management - 20% To set income and expenditure budgets for all community and events fundraising activity To monitor progress against budget and reforecast income and expenditure as required To achieve or exceed targets by managing the resources within the agreed budget and ensuring value for money To analyse results appropriately including by ROI and marketing channel and to feed conclusions into plans going forward 5. Developing fundraising audiences and products 10% Manage projects to plan, research, test and develop fundraising activities To be creative in seeking new fundraising opportunities for the Society and to test new activity within agreed parameters of risk Other Duties The post holder will be working in a developing environment and he/she will therefore be expected to undertake other appropriate duties as required for the effective operation of the MS Society. The post holder should be prepared to attend MS Society meetings/events in different parts of the country. Some meetings/events may be during evenings - 4 -
