This might invlve talking t pupils abut issues f difference, perhaps in lessns, thrugh dedicated events r prjects, r thrugh assemblies and circle times. Staff 2
3 themselves will be able t determine what will wrk best fr their pupils, depending n the particular issues they need t address. We prmte an eths f gd behaviur where pupils treat ne anther and the schl staff with respect because they knw that this is the right way t behave. Values f respect fr staff and ther pupils, an understanding f the value f educatin, and a clear understanding f hw ur actins affect thers permeate the whle schl envirnment and are reinfrced by staff and lder pupils wh set a gd example t the rest. Bullying, as ppsed t cnflict, invlves repetitive r prlnged, rchestrated pwer ver smene weaker either by an individual, r mre typically, by a grup thrugh physical intimidatin, psychlgical, sexual intimidatin, racial and hmphbic abuse, verbal insults and threats, extrtin and exclusin. All pupils have a right t feel secure; t be able t trust withut fear; and t expect prtectin frm thse in psitins f care and respnsibility. They als have a basic right t take full part in their educatin, in an envirnment that des nt subject them t cruelty r create despair. All bullying is unacceptable, regardless f hw it is delivered r what excuses are given t justify it. Hwever, nt all aggressive behaviur is intended as bullying. Behaviur, which appears t be bullying may be exhibited by sme pupils (particularly thse with special needs), withut the intentin r awareness that it causes distress. 3
4 Prcedures Victims f bullying will be treated in a supprtive manner, and their wrries heard in an atmsphere f psitive cncern. Dame Ellen Pinsent Schl will develp apprpriate mechanisms fr: making pupils wh allege they have been bullied immediately safe identifying and recgnising situatins where pupils are being bullied encuraging pupils t apprach a member f staff if they are being bullied. investigating incidents and clearly stipulating what actin will be taken as part f that investigatin recrding incidents including thse f a racist nature and the subsequent actin taken, in line with schl and LA plicies. prviding apprpriate training fr staff, and supprt fr the victims f bullying. building an eths f de-escalatin and nncnfrntatin making it clear that everyne has a respnsibility fr the safety f thers raising the awareness f adults, children and yung peple abut bullying thrugh such things as the PHSE, SEAL, Circle Time and Peacemakers curricula, Friendship Squad, Rainbw Time and Playleaders. Discrete training in hmphbia, E safety/ cyber bullying ensuring that all staff, students and vlunteers are able t maintain and develp psitive relatinships with pupils prviding and encuraging a safe, listening envirnment in which adults and pupils feel free t discuss their cncerns abut bullying behaviur. Prviding prcedures and plicies arund Esafety (see separate plicy) And if apprpriate: invlving parents and all ther apprpriate rganisatins when necessary. mediating between the victim and the perpetratrs r perpetratr. cnducting an audit t identify where and when bullying 4
5 is taking place and use this t infrm the actin that will be taken. making pupils wh have aggressive tendencies, aware f this issue thrugh the Behaviur Supprt and Interventin Plans. There will then be an expectatin that the pupil will cnsciusly wrk with the supprt f staff t reduce this prblem. cunselling giving cnsideratin t cnfidentiality issues Rles and Respnsibilities Senir Staff will ensure that: actin is taken immediately n parents' suspicins. recrds are kept f all incidents reprted by teachers, parents, and pupils. arrangements are made t supprt bth victims and bullies. discuss with staff suitable sanctins where necessary ensure that the schl prspectus cntains infrmatin abut bullying, hw it wn t be tlerated and what t d if a parent thinks their child is being bullied. 5
