2 Scanner Setup Basic Functinality 1 Attach the Tether / Lanyard (Optinal): Unlck the battery cver by using a screwdriver r cin t turn the lck under the CHS t a hrizntal psitin. Remve the cver. Wrap the string lp f the tether arund the inner part f the lck inside the battery cver. Replace the battery cver and lck it by turning the lck t a vertical psitin. If desired, attach the tether t a lanyard r belt. IMPORTANT! D nt remve r replace the pre-installed battery! 2 Assemble the AC Adapter: If yu plan t charge the CHS with the AC adapter, assemble it first. Chse the plug fr yur regin and slide it int the head f the adapter until it latches. Plug the cable int the AC adapter head, making sure it is psitined crrectly. 3 Charge the CHS: The CHS must be fully charged befre first use. Initial charging takes abut 5 hurs. Red LED = Charging Green LED = Fully charged Besides the included AC adapter and USB t DC plug cable, Scket ffers an ptinal charging cradle and Mbile Pwer Pack (sld separately, Click Accessries at the tp f the page). Fr detailed infrmatin abut the LED, beep and vibrate patterns f the CHS, please refer t the CHS 7X User s Guide. Bluetth Friendly Name and Device Address: Pwering ON: Press and hld dwn the small pwer buttn until the LED turns blue and the CHS beeps twice (lw-high). Pwering OFF / Discnnecting: Press and hld dwn the small pwer buttn until the CHS beeps twice (high-lw). Scanning Barcdes: After cnnecting the CHS t yur cmputer r device, pen an applicatin and place the cursr where yu want t enter data. Hld the CHS abut 4 inches (10 cm) frm the barcde and press and hld the trigger buttn t activate the scanner. An aiming beam will appear fr 3 secnds. Keep yur hand steady while scanning. By default, the CHS will beep and vibrate, and the LED will flash green t cnfirm that data was decded and sent t the hst device. Fr mre details, please refer t the User s Guide. Autmatic Recnnectins: After yu pwer n the CHS, it will autmatically try t cnnect t the last cmputer r device it paired and cnnected t. Make sure the cmputer r device is in range with Bluetth enabled. If using SPP mde, make sure ScketScan 10 is running. If the CHS is cnnected t a cmputer r device and gets discnnected, it will try t recnnect fr a few minutes. Make sure the cmputer r device is n and in range. If the CHS cannt recnnect, it will emit a lng beep. Press the trigger buttn t restart the recnnectin prcess. Unpairing the CHS: Deleting the Bluetth Pairing In mst cases, if the CHS is paired with a cmputer r device, yu shuld unpair it befre trying t cnnect t a new cmputer r device. Pwer n the CHS. Press and hld dwn the trigger buttn. Press and hld dwn the pwer buttn. After yu hear 3 beeps, release bth buttns. The CHS will unpair and autmatically pwer ff. The next time yu pwer n the CHS, it will be discverable. CHS Versin Default Bluetth Friendly Name 7X, 7XRx Scket CHS 7x [xxxxxx] 7Xi, 7XiRx HID mde: Scket 7Xi [xxxxxx] ios mde: ios Scket 7Xi [xxxxxx] The characters in brackets are the last 6 characters f the CHS Bluetth Device Address (BDA). The BDA is labeled in the CHS battery cmpartment and helps identify yur CHS frm ther CHS scanners. 3 Built-in Tuch Screen Stylus: Use n Pcket PC / ther resistive device tuch screens. Nt included n 7Xi / 7XiRx. D nt use a damaged stylus, as it may scratch the screen. D nt use n iphne, ipad, ipd tuch r ther capacitive screen devices. 4

3 Shuld I use HID mde r SPP mde? The CHS supprts tw main kinds f Bluetth cnnectins: Human Interface Device (HID) and Serial Prt Prfile (SPP). Check the chart belw t see which mde wrks with yur OS. OS HID Windws Mbile Windws PC SM nly 2.2 r later with HID supprt SPP Apple ios Mac OS Andrid BlackBerry PlayBk nly Only with 7Xi, 7XiRx & 2.1 r later cmpatible apps By default, the CHS is set t HID mde fr Keybard devices, which requires n sftware installatin. Fr best results, Scket highly recmmends that yu use SPP mde, especially if scanning 2D barcdes. The SPP mde instructins in this Quick Start Guide are based n Scket EZ Pair, a feature f ScketScan 10 sftware. T learn hw t cnnect by scanning a custm barcde, please refer t the User s Guide. T change mdes, use the cmmand barcdes in this Quick Start Guide. T learn mre abut HID and SPP, please read ur white paper: Apple ios / Mac OS X HID (Keybard) Mde In Bluetth HID mde, the CHS cnnects t an Apple device as a keybard type device. If yu d nt have the 7Xi/7XiRx and a cmpatible applicatin (see next page), use HID mde. T pair the CHS with the Apple device: (required nly the first time yu cnnect) 1. Pwer n the CHS. 2. By default, the CHS is set t HID Keybard mde. If the mde was changed, use the Cmmand Barcdes n page 11 t set it t HID Keybard mde. 3. Enable Bluetth n the Apple device. A Bluetth device search will begin. 4. In the list f fund devices, select Scket CHS 7x (fr the 7X r 7XRx) r Scket 7Xi (fr the 7Xi r 7XiRx). If prmpted, tap Pair. 5. After they pair and cnnect, the CHS will beep nce t cnfirm the cnnectin. Apple ios ios Mde The nly CHS versins cmpatible with Apple ios mde (equivalent t SPP mde) are the 7Xi and 7XiRx. In ios mde, the CHS can nly scan barcdes int applicatins develped with the ScketScan 10 SDK. T pair and cnnect the CHS and Apple device: (required nly the first time yu cnnect) The crrect Bluetth cnnectin prcedure may vary depending n which applicatin yu are using. Please refer t yur applicatin dcumentatin fr mre infrmatin. Internet access may be required. 1. Pwer n the CHS. 2. Open the CHS 7Xi cmpatible applicatin that yu installed. 3. Enable Bluetth n the Apple device. A Bluetth device search will begin. 4. In the list f fund devices, select ios Scket 7Xi. If prmpted, tap Pair. 5. After they pair and cnnect, the CHS will beep nce t cnfirm the cnnectin. Nw whenever yu pwer n the CHS, it will autmatically try t cnnect t yur device. Nw yu are ready t scan barcdes int an applicatin created with the ScketScan 10 SDK. See scanning instructins n page 4. T access the nscreen keybard while cnnected t the CHS: Simultaneus use f the nscreen keybard and barcde scanner is supprted by Revisin G r later f the 7X and 7XRx and all Revisins f the 7Xi and 7XiRx. 1. Make sure the CHS is cnnected t yur Apple device. 2. Open yur applicatin and place the cursr where yu want t enter data. 3. Quickly duble-press the pwer buttn f the CHS (like duble-clicking a muse) t pen r clse the nscreen keybard. Watch a dem nline at: 5 6

4 Andrid OS SPP Mde Cmpatible with Andrid 2.1 t 3.x. Fr HID instructins (cmpatible with Mtrla Xm, Acer Icnia Tab A500 r ther Andrid 2.2 t 3.x devices with HID supprt), please refer t User s Guide. T install the sftware: 1. If yu installed barcde scanning sftware fr yur phne camera, yu can scan this barcde t launch the ScketScan 10 page in Andrid Market. Alternatively, pen Andrid Market r Amazn Appstre fr Andrid and search fr ScketScan. 2. Fllw the nscreen instructins t dwnlad and install ScketScan 10 sftware. If prmpted, allw the applicatin t access Bluetth cnnectins and settings and/r mdify USB strage / SD card cntents. T pair and cnnect CHS and Andrid device: (required nly the first time yu cnnect) Internet access is required. 1. Turn n Bluetth n yur Andrid device and make sure it is Discverable. 2. Tuch Hme Menu Settings. Tuch Language & keybard r Lcale and Text. Make sure ScketScan 10 is selected. 3. Open ScketScan 10. Fr sme devices, an icn will appear n the Hme screen. Fr ther devices, tuch Menu then Apps / Prgrams. 4. A message will tell yu t enable ScketScan 10 as yur input methd. Tuch Back. 5. Tuch Menu Input Methd. Make sure ScketScan 10 is selected. Tuch Back. 6. Tuch Menu Scket EZ Pair. Tuch 2D Scanner. 7. Pwer n the CHS and scan the barcde that appears n the screen. 8. The Andrid device will autmatically try t pair with the CHS. If prmpted fr a passkey, enter 0000 (fur zeres). 9. After the CHS cnnects and is ready t scan barcdes, it will beep nce. Tuch Back t clse Scket EZ Pair. Windws Mbile SPP Mde T install the sftware: Cmpatible with Windws Mbile 6 with Micrsft r Bradcm Bluetth stack. If yu have the SM 650 running Windws Mbile 6 Service Pack 8 r later, ScketScan 10 is pre-laded n the device. T install, in the Tday screen, tap Getting Started. Select the ptin t install ScketScan Make sure Bluetth is enabled n yur PDA. 2. Use a cable / cradle and Windws Mbile Device Center sftware 4.5 r later t make an active cnnectin between yur PDA and a cmputer. 3. Insert the ScketScan 10 installatin CD int the cmputer and fllw the instructins t install sftware fr Windws Mbile. If prmpted t reset, tap Yes. T pair the CHS with the PDA: (required nly the first time yu cnnect) 1. Make sure Bluetth is enabled n yur PDA. Make sure the device is Discverable (visible t ther Bluetth devices). 2. Make sure ScketScan 10 is running. Tap Start Prgrams ScketScan 10 flder ScketScan In the Tday screen, tap n the ScketScan 10 icn in the task tray. In the pp-up menu, tap ScketScan 10 Settings. Make sure an available COM is selected. Tap k. 4. Tap n the ScketScan 10 icn. In the pp-up menu, tap Scket EZ Pair. Tap 2D Scanner. 5. Pwer n the CHS and scan the barcde that appears n the screen. 6. The PDA will autmatically try t pair with the CHS. If prmpted t allw the pairing, click Yes. If prmpted fr a passkey, enter 0000 (fur zeres). 7. After the CHS cnnects and is ready t scan barcdes, it will beep nce. Clse Scket EZ Pair. 8. If yu have nt registered yur CHS, a registratin screen will appear. If desired, register yur CHS. 9. The task tray icn will change t indicate the cnnectin. 10. If yu have nt registered yur CHS, a registratin icn will appear n tp f the screen. If desired, swipe it dwn t pen the sftware and register yur CHS. Task Tray Icn (in Tday screen) CHS nt cnnected. CHS cnnected. 11. The ScketScan 10 icn at the tp f the screen will change t indicate the cnnectin. Status Bar Icn CHS nt cnnected. CHS cnnected. 7 8

5 Windws PC SPP Mde T install the sftware and cnfigure a COM prt: 1. Insert the ScketScan 10 installatin CD int yur cmputer and fllw the instructins t install the sftware fr Windws Desktp. 2. When prmpted t cnfigure a Bluetth COM prt nw, click Yes. 3. In ScketScan 10 Settings, select an incming Bluetth serial COM prt. Click OK. Click Prts t identify an incming COM prt r create a new incming COM prt (e.g., if n incming COM prts are enabled). Windws Mbile r PC HID (Peripherals) Mde T pair the CHS with the PDA r PC: (required nly the first time yu cnnect) Fr Windws Mbile, nly the SM 650 wrks in HID mde with CHS. 1. Pwer n the CHS. 2. Scan this barcde t cnfigure the CHS fr HID mde fr Peripheral class devices. 4. At the end f the installatin wizard, click Finish. If prmpted, restart the PC. 5. Windws 7 / Vista nly: Make sure yu are running ScketScan 10 with administrative privileges. Right-click n the ScketScan 10 desktp shrtcut. In the pp-up menu, click Prperties. Click Advanced. Select Run as administratr and click OK. T pair the CHS with the PC: (required nly the first time yu cnnect) 1. Make sure Bluetth is enabled n yur PC. 2. Make sure ScketScan 10 is running. Click n the ScketScan 10 desktp shrtcut icn. 3. Turn n Bluetth n yur PDA r PC and start a device search / add a new device. 4. In the list f fund devices, select Scket CHS 7x (fr the 7X r 7XRx) r HID Scket 7Xi (fr the 7Xi r 7XiRx). If prmpted fr a passkey, enter 0000 (fur zeres). If prmpted t select services, select Input Device. 5. After the CHS cnnects and is ready t scan barcdes, it will beep nce. 3. Click n the ScketScan 10 icn in the task tray. In the pp-up menu, click Scket EZ Pair. Click 2D Scanner. 4. Pwer n the CHS and scan the barcde that appears n the screen. 5. The PC will autmatically try t pair with the CHS. If prmpted t allw the pairing, click Yes. If prmpted fr a passkey, enter 0000 (fur zeres). 6. After the CHS cnnects and is ready t scan barcdes, it will beep nce. Clse Scket EZ Pair. 7. If yu have nt registered the CHS, a registratin screen will appear. If desired, register yur CHS. 8. The task tray icn will change t indicate the cnnectin. Task Tray Icn CHS nt cnnected. CHS cnnected. BlackBerry OS SPP Mde ScketScan 10 sftware wrks with BlackBerry OS r later fr Bld Other phnes may be cmpatible. Fr HID instructins fr the BlackBerry PlayBk r t install via BlackBerry Desktp Sftware, see User s Guide. T install the sftware: In yur phne Brwser, pen: Fllw the nscreen instructins t dwnlad and install the sftware. T pair the CHS with the phne: (required nly the first time yu cnnect) Internet access is required. 1. In the Hme screen, click Dwnlads ScketScan 10. If prmpted t grant trusted applicatin status, click Yes. 2. Click Menu Scket EZ Pair. Click 2D Scanner. 3. If asked fr permissin t access click Allw. 4. Pwer n the CHS and scan the barcde that appears n the screen. 5. When asked if yu want t cnnect t the CHS, click Yes. If prmpted fr a passkey, enter 0000 (fur zeres). 6. After the CHS cnnects and is ready t scan barcdes, it will beep nce. 7. Clse Scket EZ Pair by clicking Menu Clse. The CHS registratin screen will appear. If desired, register yur CHS. 9 10

6 Cmmand Barcdes Data Editing Prefix / Suffix Scan cmmand barcde(s) t quickly cnfigure the CHS. By default, the CHS is in Bluetth HID mde as a Keybard device. IMPORTANT! Make sure the CHS is nt cnnected t a hst cmputer r device befre scanning a cmmand barcde! Fr a cmplete set f cmmand barcdes, dwnlad the Cmmand Barcdes Sheet: Cmmand SPP Mde Changes the CHS t Bluetth Serial Prt Prfile (SPP) mde (required fr BlackBerry, ptinal fr Windws and Andrid). HID Mde (default) Changes the CHS t Bluetth Human Interface Device (HID) mde. The CHS will be discverable as a Keybard t ther Bluetth devices (required fr Mac OS). Barcde Cmmand Carriage Return Suffix (default) Changes the CHS t autmatically add a carriage return at the end f each scan f data. Tab Suffix Changes the CHS t autmatically add a tab at the end f each scan f data. Carriage Return & Line Feed Suffix Changes the CHS t autmatically add a carriage return and line feed at the end f each scan f data. Data As Is N Prefix r Suffix Changes the CHS t remve all prefix and suffix settings. Barcde HID-Peripheral Changes a CHS in HID-Keybard mde t HID- Peripheral mde (ptinal fr Windws and Andrid). Apple ios Onscreen Keybard (fr HID Mde nly) ios Mde Changes the CHS 7Xi r 7XiRx t Apple ios mde (equivalent t SPP mde). Cmmand Enable ios Duble Press With Beep (default) Changes the CHS t pen the ios nscreen keybard and beep when the CHS pwer buttn is dublepressed. Barcde Factry Reset Cnfigures the CHS t revert all settings t factry defaults. The CHS pwers ff after scanning this barcde. Enable ios Duble Press N Beep Changes the CHS t pen the ios nscreen keybard when the CHS pwer buttn is duble-pressed. Versin Infrmatin (fr HID Mde nly) Cmmands the CHS in HID mde t utput the firmware versin infrmatin int an active applicatin.
