Yu can upgrade t Windws 8.1 fr free by fllwing the steps in the Upgrade t Windws 8.1 sectin belw. Windws 7 users Only mdels that were eligible fr the windws 8.0 upgrade prgram are supprted. T check if yur mdel is supprted, please check the cmpatibility chart here If yur PC is supprted, yu will need t upgrade t Windws 8 befre upgrading t Windws 8.1. 2 Step 1 - Prepare cmputer fr installatin/precautins Step 2 - Run VAIO Update Step 3 - Run Windws Update Step 4 - Install Windws 8.1 Step 5 - Run VAIO Update again Step 1 - Prepare cmputer fr installatin /precautins Cmplete all steps befre beginning the upgrade. 1. Remve any external hardware (such as USB drives r printers) frm the cmputer. 2. Plug the cmputer s AC adapter int a wrking pwer utlet. D nt perate n battery pwer while perfrming the upgrade. 3. Create recvery media. (Strngly recmmended.) Recvery media enables yu t return yur perating system t its riginal state. Create recvery media. > Please check yur Trubleshting Guide fr detailed instructins. 4 Perfrm a backup f yur data. (Strngly recmmended.) It is yur sle respnsibility t back up yur data. Backing up yur data enables yu t recver yur data in case f lss. Hw t perfrm a backup 5. Check yur Anti-Spyware sftware s supprt website befre upgrading t Windws 8.1. Yu may need t update t the latest versin. 6. Nte t the Music by Sny users: Befre upgrading t Windws 8.1, update t the latest versin f the Music by Sny app in the Windws Stre. If yu dn t fllw this step, yu may lse part f yur playlist. Step 2 Run VAIO Update Page 2

3 Installs the latest updates frm Sny t prepare yur VAIO cmputer fr the upgrade. 1. Start VAIO Update. 2. Select all listed drivers, applicatins and utilities and click Install. Step 3 Run Windws Update Installs the latest updates frm Micrsft t prepare the Windws 8 perating system fr the upgrade. 1. Start Windws Update. 2. Select all listed drivers, applicatins, and utilities and click Install. Step 4 - Install Windws On the Start screen, click the Stre tile. 2. Search fr Windws 8.1 and click Dwnlad. The dwnlad may take several hurs depending n yur Internet cnnectin. 3. When the file has finished dwnlading, yu will be prmpted t restart yur cmputer. Click Restart Nw. 4. When yur cmputer restarts, read the License terms and click I accept t cntinue. 5. Select ne f the fllwing settings fr installatin: Express Settings: Allws Windws t select the recmmended settings (recmmended). Custmize: Allws yu t custmize yur preferred Windws settings. If yu chse the custmize ptin: Decide if yu wuld like t share resurces n the netwrk. Yes, turn n sharing and cnnected devices fr netwrks in public places. N, dn t turn n sharing r cnnect t devices fr netwrks in public places. Select the varius ptins related t autmatically installing Windws and drivers updates, as well as an ptin related t the SmartScreen filter. Click Next. Page 3

The next page includes ptins related t Micrsft services t fix prblems and lets yu cnfigure what infrmatin that yu want t share with yur apps. Select the desired ptins and click Next. 6. On the Sign in t yur Micrsft accunt screen, input yur user name and passwrd and click Next. 7. Input the security verificatin infrmatin fr the Micrsft Accunt and click Next. This infrmatin can be used t verify wnership f a Micrsft Accunt fr accunt recvery r ther supprt scenaris. 8. On the SkyDrive is yur clud strage screen, select whether r nt t use SkyDrive as yur clud strage. T use SkyDrive fr clud strage, click Next. Select Turn ff these SkyDrive settings if yu d nt wish t use SkyDrive fr clud strage. 9. The Start screen appears. Installatin f the Windws 8.1 perating system is nw cmplete, but yu still need t install drivers created specifically fr yur VAIO cmputer. Step 5 Run VAIO Update again Installs the necessary drivers, applicatins, and utilities yur VAIO cmputer needs fr Windws Start VAIO Update 2.
