1 JOB DESCRIPTION Post Title: Department: Responsible to: Supervisory responsibility: ICT Technician ICT (Bursary) ICT Network Manager None Date of Issue: May 2016 Main Purpose of Job: Managed by the ICT Network Manager, the role holder will provide advice and on-site support to the Downside campus including the School and the Monastery; supporting the maintenance, development and use of the ICT infrastructure, equipment, systems and software. Duties and Responsibilities: To provide technical support in the installation, upgrading and maintenance of the PASS software environment. Escalate problems as required to resolution. This post is the first point of technical contact and will deal with a wide range of technical enquiries. To provide ICT hardware and software support either by telephone, remote access or visits as appropriate. This is to include hardware repairs and redundant kit disposal; routine system, hardware and software maintenance; testing, installation and configuration of new hardware and software in a Network environment. To provide technical support for both client server and peer to peer networks, internet connections and systems. To liaise with suppliers of maintenance and support services where appropriate to ensure the repair or maintenance of computer systems. To provide detailed procedural and systems documentation when required. To motivate and gain the confidence of staff and external users of systems, showing tact and diplomacy where needed. To accept specified projects as defined within the remit of the team, to enable it to remain a proactive component of the Service. Page 1 of 5

2 Within policy guidelines, to specify corrections or modifications to any system lying within the Unit s area of specialism. To research IT initiatives and developments and report on these. The post will also involve liaison with colleagues in the ICT team regarding the content and development of the recommended software suites. To be an integrated team member, working closely and supporting the helpdesk function at all other times to ensure the delivery of completed project, fault and problem solutions to the customer base. Also ensuring that detailed and accurate records are maintained for the helpdesk function. To alert the ICT Network Manager to situations where difficulties and problems are consistently arising in the use and application of computer systems. This is required so that appropriate solutions can be developed, and training schemes can be reinforced. To advise on and install IT security devices ensuring computers are secure from accidental or deliberate software corruption. Any other duties as may be required and are commensurate with the grade of the post. General: The following duties are ones which all staff are required to perform: Observe health and safety procedures and work safely at all times; To be responsible for your own continuing self-development, undertaking training as appropriate to the working environment and location, and developments in your role; Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact; Undertake any other duties as required by your manager in order to meet the changing needs and demands of the School and Monastery. Conduct yourself with professionalism, tact and diplomacy at all times as a representative of Downside. This job description is provided to assist the post holder to know their principal duties. A strict code of confidentiality must be adhered to at all times. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION ATTRIBUTES Qualification ESSENTIAL These are qualities without which the applicant could not be appointed. 5 GCSEs at a minimum Grade C or above including Maths, English and Science DESIRABLE This information could be used to differentiate applicants. HND qualification or equivalent in an ICT related discipline. HOW IDENTIFIED form/ Skills & Knowledge A-Level or equivalent qualification in ICT Understanding of a service delivery framework. Technical skills and best practice guidelines encompassing current versions of: Microsoft operating systems for desktops & servers Network management solutions Help desk software and reporting Physical network technologies (switching, routing and wireless) Problem solving with Apple operating systems Knowledge of typical school ICT solutions (MIS, integrated access control, follow me print solutions etc.) Knowledge of Apple technologies Experience with the following: VMware Smoothwall/Filtering systems Veeam Impero SCCM Microsoft Exchange Ruckus WCBS form / Ability to establish the cause of problems and knowledge of how to resolve them. Experience At least 2 years post qualification experience in a commercial or local government environment or at least 4 years relevant experience without qualification.
